It’s that time again – checking in on my yearly goals! It doesn’t feel like much time has passed since my last check-in, but that’s because I did it an entire month and a half late, oops. I’m trying to be much more timely with this update. Let’s dive into my progress so far and what goals I’m hoping I can accomplish by the end of the year:
1) Read 100 books. Complete! I hit my 100th book at the end of September so I’m contemplating a big audacious reading goal for next year.
2) Complete the A-Z Instagram reading challenge. Almost there! I still have V and Z left. I really liked doing this super low-pressure reading challenge and I’d love to find something similar for next year.
3) Reread the Anne of Green Gables series. I’ve read the first four books in the series and I’ll likely be able to read the fifth book by the end of the year. This was such a fun goal and I’m so glad I reread these books.
4) Dye my hair purple. Complete! I did this in July.
5) Save $1,000 in an emergency fund. I have $800 saved right now so I’m feeling confident I’ll be able to complete this goal by the end of the year.
6) Get something on the walls of my living room. Complete! I could still get something on the other wall, but two of the three walls have stuff on them now so I’m feeling good about my living room decor currently.
7) Take control over my dermotophagia. Not really. The skin around my nails is a wreck, ugh.
8) Redo my bathroom. Complete! I did this in March.
9) Visit Ireland. Complete! We went in April/May. 🙂
10) Visit Washington DC. Not happening this year. Fingers crossed for 2020!
11) Build a necklace collection. Complete! I have around 12 necklaces now and I’m happy with my collection.
12) Pay an extra $500 towards my student loans. Not happening this year. Womp.
13) Go to a movie alone. I still haven’t done this! Argh!
14) Work out 150 times. I’m at 104 workouts so far. I think I’m going to get this done!
15) Lose 40 lbs. Nope, nope, nope.
16) Give Eloise a sibling. Complete! I adopted Lila in February. She’s the best.
17) Start saving for a new apartment. Yep! I have around $150 saved so far and my goal is at least $1,000 by August. (Pet deposits aren’t cheap, yo!)
18) Do a spending freeze once a quarter. I gave up on this in Q1.
19) Develop a daily water-drinking habit. Not complete. Will be working on this in Q4 and hopefully I can figure it out.
20) Buy two bigger bookshelves. I bought one and that’s all I need right now!
21) Complete Project 365. I’m trucking along, very thankful for my arsenal of backup cat photos to use on a day when nothing remarkable happens. I’ll be glad to complete this challenge!
22) Develop a skincare routine. I’ve been doing pretty well for the past few weeks at adhering to a nighttime skincare routine (much less consistent with my morning routine).
23) Start a vitamin regimen. I’m not as consistent as I’d like to be with this so it’s definitely something to focus on in Q4.
24) Replace all of my underwear. I need about 10 more pairs for me to consider this complete.
25) Write my novel. In progress! I’m hoping to complete NaNoWriMo next month to get me closer to the finish line.
26) Try 10 new foods. I haven’t kept track of this at all. I did try gnocchi for the first time last month so there’s something to add to the list! (Verdict: delicious!)
27) Track my money on Mint. After getting everything set up, I realized that system doesn’t really work for me. I’m back to doing it old-school style with a spreadsheet.
28) Get all of my skin tags removed. Complete! This was done in January/February.
29) Sign up for a paid dating service. Not complete. I’m using the apps and that’s all I need right now.
30) Visit five new-to-me parks around the area. Oh, this is not getting complete. Lol, Steph.
What’s Next?
Now that we’re in Q4, it’s time to kick it into high gear for some of my goals and lovingly let the other ones go. Here are some of the goals I’m setting for myself this quarter:
- Read Vox by Christine Dalcher and Z: A Novel of Zelda Fitzgerald by Theresa Anne Fowler to complete the A-Z Instagram challenge.
- Add at least $200 to my emergency savings account to complete my goal of saving $1,000.
- Start documenting the times when I pick at the skin around my nails to take control over my dermotophagia.
- Go to a movie alone!
- Work out 17 times in October, November, and December to complete my goal of working out 150 times this year.
- Commit to my daily water-drinking habit. One full Yeti tumbler every day.
- Recommit to my vitamin routine.
- Buy 10 new pairs of underwear so I can end the year having replaced all my underwear.
- Win NaNoWrimMo 2019 and finish my novel.
Whew! That seems like a lot but it’s really nothing massive. Just a lot of little goals. (I mean, other than finishing my novel, ha.) I’ve already started to think about and brainstorm my goals for 2020 because that’s just the kind of person I am. 😉
What’s a goal you want to complete by the end of the year?

Great job on all the goals you’ve crossed off so far. I need to get back into working on my novel as well.

Nice work on your goals! Here’s to a successful Q4. It’s mind boggling that we are in the final quarter of the year. 2019 really flew by! I’m making good progress on my 19 in 2019 list. There are some I know we won’t do a couple I’m at risk of not completing. But overall, I’m happy with the progress I made.
My biggest goal for Q4 is to move into our new house/get settled there and sell our current home. It’s going to be a hectic Q4 for us!

New to your blog & really enjoying it! I’m really impressed both with the length of your list and the variety of goals, but mostly with your ability to stick to it and reach those goals. Wish I had that gumption!

I am seriously impressed. I think you’ve been able to complete and get far on A LOT! Way to go.
Also… you just tried gnocchi for the firs time?! GIRL! It’s amazing… but I am also Italian lol.
