Ready to come along on a typical Saturday in my life? That’s right, friends! It’s “A Picture Per Hour” day!
7:20 a.m.: We’re up for the day! I feed the girls their breakfast (today is “ocean fish and salmon” and if you think I don’t announce the flavor of the day to the cats, you don’t know me). I’m on Day 3 of training them to eat on a schedule and the first two days were rough. They barely ate because they hadn’t realized the food wouldn’t be available all day. Today, it seems like they’re catching on and ate about 75% of their breakfast, which is a vast improvement.
8:26 a.m.: Time for my morning med routine! The yellow gummies are my multivitamin, the purple gummies are my probiotic, the black-and-yellow pill is an antibiotic I’m taking for a UTI, the small white pills are a vitamin D supplement and Lexapro (I’m on 30 mg of Lexapro so I take 1.5 pills every day), and then the big oblong white pills are magnesium glycinate. I’m taking the probiotic and magnesium glycinate based on a recommendation from my psychiatrist. And I am always deficient in vitamin D so I take one pill per day (should maybe take more, but that’s where we’re at for right now).
9:43 a.m.: I spent the majority of this week’s writing date working on a post for our podcast Instagram. I wanted to do a fun infographic revealing Bri and my scores for the Big 5 personality framework, which was the focus of our episode this week. (This score, in particular, tickles me as Bri scored 100% as an extrovert and I scored 6%!) Thankfully, Canva has some very cool graph options that I was able to plug and play, so this came out even better than I imagined.
10:55 a.m.: At the end of each writing date, Mikaela reads the latest chapter she’s written to me. So at this time, I’m sitting in my seat, laptop closed, focusing on her voice and her words. I’m continuously amazed and impressed by her writing skills and her ability to dig deep and think about this dark time in her life. It’s a great chapter!
11:29 a.m.: I’m back home and I get settled on the couch to read a chapter of Think Again by Adam Grant. A friend raved about this book and I’m reading it slowly one chapter per day. It’s… okay? I don’t think I’m learning anything terribly new, honestly.
12:17 p.m.: I’m all cozy in my bed with Eloise loafing nearby. It’s time for my Saturday afternoon nap! Yesss.
3:07 p.m.: I wake up from my nap to find Eloise has parked herself right on my stomach. I spend a lot of time petting her and giving her head scritches as I try to wake up.
4:30 p.m.: I’m not one to sit down and read for long periods of time, but I wanted to get to page 100 on my latest book (Last Girl Ghosted by Lisa Unger) and I did! It’s a very propulsive thriller so far, so it was easy to keep turning the pages.
5:50 p.m.: I took some time to get myself together since I’m having dinner with my mom and stepdad tonight. I tried this new hairstyle (that you can’t see very well from the picture) where I sectioned off the front part of my hair and tied the rest of it back in a ponytail. Then I braided the left and right side, tied off the braids with clear elastics, and tucked the ends into my ponytail. It was fun and different!
6:30 p.m.: I’m at my mom’s! The dogs let me know how much they missed me and how excited they were to see me. I snapped this picture as they stared at my mom when she came into the living room. Equal parts adoration and “why are you leaving us????”
7:00 p.m.: Early this week, I told my mom I needed us to plan dinner at Outback because I was craving one of their baked potatoes (I think they make the best baked potatoes ever). So we made it happen tonight! We always sit at the bar and get great service. My meal hit the spot!
8:45 p.m.: I’m back home and sinking into a nice, warm bubble bath to wrap up the day.
9:10 p.m.: It’s time for my weekly polish change! This week, I’m going to be rocking this sparkly dark pink shade that just makes me so, so happy when I wear it. (Nail polish tips welcome. I can never make my polish last longer than a few days without chipping, and it drives me crazy!)
10:40 p.m.: A Lila sighting! She’s been snoozing in one of the cat beds, so I take her picture as I start turning off the lights around the apartment.
11:17 p.m.: All snuggled in bed, reading with a cat curled up next to me. Bliss!
What would have been your first picture of the day for Saturday?
J
Fun post! I haven’t been to Outback in AGES, but I do love a good baked potato. Yummy. Also, I don’t even bother to put polish on my fingernails anymore, the color chips so quickly it’s not worth it.
I take my antibiotics and probiotics a couple of hours apart. I have heard they can cancel each other out otherwise. Something to ask your doctor, perhaps not true for the antibiotic you are taking.
Stephany
You’d think I would have given up on painting my nails because the color chips so quickly, but alas, I still enjoy the routine of changing out my polish color weekly! (As I’m typing this on Monday night, my two pointer finger nails have already chipped slightly, ugh!)
Engie
The Outback baked potatoes are good. So is their Caesar salad. I haven’t been there for years, but my mouth’s watering just thinking about it.
My first photo of Saturday morning would probably have been on my walk with the dog. She’s so happy to be out on walks in the morning – it makes getting up early worth it just to get cuddles from her.
Stephany
I’m glad I’m not alone in my supreme love for Outback baked potatoes. They’re so good!
Whenever I dog-sit for my mom, I love waking up with the dogs. They are just always so joyous to greet the day!

I love the picture an hour format. My random chit chat comments are:
– Our dog gets three different kinds of treats – two are supplements and one is just for fun. We absolutely talk them up to her! We have code names – for example we call her glucosamine supplement “candy” and after we get back from her lunchtime walk I might say something like “you’re a good girl and you’re going to get some of that sweet, sweet candy” – she knows she’s getting her treat and she doesn’t need my chatter but the rest of the family enjoys it.
– I haven’t read Think Again, but if I did I’m convinced I’d have the same reaction. I can’t remember the last time that I “got” something useful out of a personal development book.
– Note to self – I need to put Lisa Unger on my TBR. I read a book of hers a long time ago and I remember that it was really good.
– I haven’t painted my nails in a long time for exactly the reason that it starts chipping in a few days so it just ends up being annoying.
Stephany
Hehehe – I love that you talk up the treats to your doggo. I call treats “yum yums” so every time I say, “Do you girls want some yum yums?” they go beserk with delight. 🙂
I typically enjoy a good personal development book, but I’m learning that I just don’t have the patience to learn personal development from rich white dudes.
Kim
I love that you tell the girls what they are getting, and that they were already starting to get the hang of it on Day 3! Yay!
I thought your graphs looked so nice on Insta. Canva FTW!
OMG the 12:17 vs 3:07 pics had me LOLing!!!! Love!
Yay for a bath! I have no idea how to make regular nail polish not chip. Is that possible? Olive & June says it is but… I think no chip would mean getting a nail lamp and using no chip polish. That’s the only area I have success.
My first pic of Saturday would have been feeding the cats, too!
Stephany
I giggled at the 12:17 vs 3:07 pic, too. I love when I wake up and Ellie is on my tummy!
I get enraged at the Olive + June ads that say their polish doesn’t chip. IT’S ALL LIES. They chip just as easily as any other polish. Maybe I’ll look into a nail lamp, though, and see if that helps!
Elisabeth
I actually shuddered a bit at the thought of a bubble bath. I can’t quite wrap my head around the fact so many people love BATHS.
Moving on…
“if you think I don’t announce the flavor of the day to the cats, you don’t know me” – haha! This made me laugh.
And I am here for any polish tips you get. I rarely paint my fingernails because they chip immediately and I’m not much better with my toes. Sigh.
Stephany
HA! I guess there are two people in the world: people who couldn’t live without regular bubble baths and people who shudder at the thought of them!
The consensus is that nobody paints their nails because they chip so easily. Womp! I do like the routine of changing out my polish, even if it doesn’t last as long as I’d like it to.
Nicole MacPherson
I love these posts, I am so snoopy that I love peeks into people’s lives. I keep meaning to do one myself! Soon. Saturday, Saturday…I can’t think what my first picture would have been but it must be coffee, I think.
I use Sally Hanson gel on my fingernails, and it doesn’t chip as easily as other polish. It also dries really quickly. It’s not a true gel because you can remove it with regular polish remover, and it doesn’t require a UV light. I really recommend it, I probably get a week out of it before it chips.
Stephany
A week! Okay, you’ve convinced me. I’m going to try out this gel polish and see if it does the trick for me.
Jenny
I love posts like this! So fun to see how people spend their days. My first photo of every day would probably be the cats as well. I don’t usually announce the flavor to them, but I did today because it was their favorite (I get excited about things like that.)
I also have to supplement with Vitamin D (and what’s up with that, anyway? Don’t we live in Florida?) AND I love a good nap on Saturday afternoon! I like to nap on the couch because then my cat will come and snuggle up with me.
i love the Chip and Lucy photo on the pumpkin blanket!
Stephany
I’m shocked that you have to supplement with vitamin D since you’re outside running so often! That’s crazy. I guess it must be a woman thing, perhaps.
Yes, whenever I open up a can of their fave flavor, I also get very excited for the cats. HA.
Lisa's Yarns
That is a fun polish color! I never paint my nails because they chip so quickly and it drives me crazy! Your dinner with your mom and her husband sounds fun. I love a good baked potato!
Well you would not have wanted a photo of how my Sat started. Paul woke us up at 5 to tell us that he had thrown up in his bed. Le sigh. So I gave him a bath while Phil stripped his bed and remade it with clean sheets. It was not a great start to the day.
Stephany
Ugh, that sounds like a ROUGH start to your Saturday for sure. We definitely had very different Saturdays!
San
These posts are always so fun. I should do one again – I haven’t done one in ages. I am impressed you have a built-in Saturday nap. I can only nap when I am really tired and I usually feel that I am “wasting” valuable time when I nap that I could have used for something else LOL
Stephany
I wish I felt more like I was wasting time by spending 3 hours of my Saturday napping! Haha. I would definitely be more productive on my weekends. But the comfy bed just calls to me!
Daria
This post made me smile. Love these types of posts. My first picture? Of a dark window b/c I am up at 4:3-5, even on Saturdays. Actually right now it would have been an image of the lights we have hanging on our fireplace in the living room, for fall/Hallween time. I absolutely loved reading about your day, you are glowing! Mom looks great, too. 🙂
Hugs!
Stephany
You are too kind, Daria! Thank you so much!
Anne
I love this glimpse into your life, Stephany. My Saturday was very different from yours, I can guarantee it! My first shot would be of the treadmill across the hall – workout first, for sure – and then of my kitchen, because meal prep follows the workout on Saturdays. 🙂
I’m with Elisabeth in the no-bubble-bath group, and with San in the no-nap group. I used to be a bath person, in high school, but oh, my. Not anymore! I’m glad you know what YOU enjoy, though! That’s the most important thing.
Stephany
I love a good bubble bath, but I respect that it’s not the go-to relaxation strategy for everyone, haha.
