My weekend kicked off with a vet appointment for Eloise! She only needed her rabies vaccine, so it was a quick visit for her. She weighed in at a skinny 8.4 lbs, which is about 2 lbs lighter than Lila. (Yet, the girls eat the same amount! Just goes to show you that all bodies find their own perfect happy weight!)
Friday night was super fun, as I invited over the person I’m seeing to watch the Opening Ceremonies with me. We had a great time—we had Publix subs for dinner and delicious mini bundt cakes for dessert. Perfect! The Opening Ceremonies were a little lackluster as to be expected, but I enjoyed seeing the parade of nations. The athletes had waited so long for this opportunity and it was so fun to see their excitement! (And, of course, judge the mask-wearing abilities of some of the athletes, sigh.) We placed a friendly bet on how many athletes the USA had, and we were both a bit off. (I guessed 375 and they guessed 1,128 and it was somewhere around the mid-600s!) Anyway, it was a really fun night filled with lots of laughter and great conversation, as it always is with us! And I’m just so excited for the Olympics to kick off!
Friday night ended up being a late night since the Opening Ceremonies went on until 11 (or maybe later? We turned it off after the parade of nations). But I was up and at ’em early for my Saturday morning workout. I did a 30-minute spin workout with Cody Rigsby and it was the perfect way to start my day!
After my workout, I took a shower and quickly got ready because I was meeting up with Mikaela for our first writing date since December! She’s my friend whose daughter had cancer. Now that they are done with chemo and blood transfusions and other appointments, we can bring back our weekly writing dates. I am so thrilled about that! We met at Panera and I worked on a blog post that has been brewing in my head for a while—hopefully, I can post it on Wednesday but if not, it’ll be coming your way soon!
I stopped at Target after our writing date to pick up a birthday present for a friend’s baby. I also couldn’t help stopping by the book aisle to check out the books. I somehow abstained from buying anything, but please don’t give me any kudos as I have gone crazy with book-buying this month. (I think I’ve bought 8 books? It’s a problem.)
Saturday afternoon was spent at a friend’s baby’s birthday party! Her baby turned one yesterday and it was an Olympics-themed celebration that was super fun! This friend is a former coworker who I sat next to for many, many years and we grew very close. It’s been fun to follow her journey as she got engaged and then married while we were coworkers, and now she’s a mom! Celebrating her baby boy was so much fun.
I was sooooo looking forward to Saturday night, as I planned to decompress. My introvert battery was completely drained. I came home, took a hot bubble bath, and then laid on the couch and watched Olympics coverage and read for the rest of the night (whenever NBC covered a sport that didn’t interest me, I just muted the TV and opened my book!)
Sunday started off slow and lazy, just like I needed it! I spent most of the morning sleeping and reading, which is the best way to spend a Sunday morning, in my opinion. 🙂
I spent the afternoon at my mom’s. We were desperately in need of some one-on-one time! I visited with Lucy, who got spayed on Friday so she was feeling a bit crummy. And I also got to enjoy the pool (my mom and I pretended to be Olympic swimmers and quickly realized we were not in shape for that—the butterfly stroke is ridic, you guys) and play a few rounds of Qwixx, which is our new favorite game.
I ran a few errands after leaving my mom’s. First to TJ Maxx to pick up a birthday gift for a friend and later to Publix to do this week’s grocery shopping. Then it was home to veg!
Remember the days of TV scheduling conflicts where you had to choose which show to watch live in the days before DVR and streaming? That was me last night! Big Brother was on at 8 but I wanted to watch the Olympics since they were showing the women’s gymnastics all-around qualifying round. So I busted out the ol’ Chromebook so I could do both! (Originally I was going to watch Big Brother on my laptop and the Olympics on TV, but my Firestick decided to stop working last night. So that’s great timing!)
And that’s my Olympics-heavy weekend! It was a busy one, but a fun and fulfilling one, too.
How was your weekend? Are you watching the Olympics?

I love the Olympics & I’m not a sports fan. But its just fun.
So glad to hear your friends daughter is doing well!!!
I never make it through Target without going to the book aisle … the restraint is pushed to its limits there.
I missed Big Brother last night – gotta see who is nominated!

I am so into the Olympics! We got a subscription to Peacock so I can watch things I can’t catch on tv (I don’t have cable so don’t have a DRV – womp womp!). I actually rescheduled a summer reading group last night at the last minute when I found out the women’s gymnastics coverage was on that night. I could not miss it and knew I would see spoilers all over the place! It was so wonderful to watch those talented women compete. I had Paul watch a little bit of the floor routine. He seemed sort of impressed but didn’t really get bit by the Olympics bug quite yet! 😉
Sounds like things are going well with the person you are seeing! So exciting!
Our weekend was pretty good. It was very hot but we managed to be outside quite a bit on Sunday. I walked the boys to the park while Phil was swimming at a local lake. Then Paul played with his water table for a bit after lunch. And then after nap, I took both boys to a local wading pool and met up with 2 friends and their kiddos. So it was a full, fun day. Both boys slept great last night because they were worn out!

I have to admit – I have not been watching much of the Olympics so far. My mind is just not “there”. I can usually get pulled in, once the competition starts, but I have no desire to even turn on the TV. Oh well.
I love that you’re having a writing date with your friend. I wish I had someone close by to do that with! Also someone with a pool would be nice 😉

I need to google Qwixx! I love finding new games.
What a fun date night at home! I had no idea what the amount of our athletes is! 600 is a lot!
I am so glad writing dates are back!
The theme for that party is so cute! I love his shirt!
I want to be watching the Olympics but we have been gone so much that we haven’t! 🙁

I watched the Olympics highlights and (since I’m commenting sooo late this time… work has been NUTS!) I can say that my favorite part was Allyson Felix. Hands down. That women’s 4×400 was completely insane (in a good way).
I cannot wait to hear more about the person you are dating! I hope that things are still going well, but it’s such a good sign that you laugh, have fun, eat mini bundt cakes, and lose track of time when you’re together!
