It’s Friday! Hooray! We are in the single-digit countdown for my cruise – 9 days to go! Next weekend is going to be busy, busy, busy but this weekend will be fairly low-key and I’m excited to spend some time reading, working on my fiction novel, and getting in solid workouts. For today, I thought it would be fun to do an “always, sometimes, never” post. (Idea stolen from Lisa!) The last time I did this type of post (almost a year ago to the day, actually!), I wrote it about cruising so today, I’ll keep things random and about my everyday life. Sound good? Let’s dive in!
Play with my hair. Allllllll the time. I am forever playing with my hair. I love twirling it around my fingers, running my hands through it and messing up my part, playing with my bangs. Sigh. It’s one of those habits I can’t seem to break!
Need to have my ceiling fan on when sleeping. I don’t know if I need it because it keeps my room cool (I like an ice-cold room when I sleep!), or because it makes a comforting hum that makes it easy to fall asleep to. Whatever it is, if I ever try to go to sleep without my ceiling fan on, everything just feels wrong.
Take off my shoes at work. I read a blog post the other day that implored women to never, ever take our shoes off at work. How unprofessional! Psht. Whatever. It’s not like I’m walking around the office shoeless, just when I’m at my desk. Being shoeless with my legs curled under me is my favorite way to work. If that’s unprofessional, then so be it!
Let my dog kiss my face. I know, I know, I knooooow. Some of you are totally grossed out by that. My mom doesn’t let Dutch kiss her face, but I honestly have never minded it! I’m just a dog person to my core and one of their ways of showing happiness and excitement and love is by slobbery kisses. Dutch would full-on make out with me if I let him (which I don’t!), but I don’t mind if he plasters me with some kisses when I come home. It’s not like anyone else is lining up to kiss me… 😉
Think about moving to an entirely new state and starting over. Often, I try to picture myself moving to an entirely new state and building a new life somewhere different. Taking the leap and doing something so completely out of my comfort zone. Something that would shake up my life, and cause me to grow in leaps and bounds. I don’t know if it’s something I even really want, or if it just sounds fun and exciting and crazy and I want people to think I am fun and exciting and crazy. Ah. It’s fun to imagine, but I honestly can’t imagine not living in Florida!
Wonder if I’ll ever find My Person. Sometimes, I get really dejected when I think about dating and how I’ve yet to find someone who affects me. Someone I could be myself around – in all my weird, awkward glory – and who I could see myself building a life with. The majority of guys I meet just don’t do it for me. Sure, they’re nice guys and fun to be with, but ultimately, I have a very specific idea of what I want, and I’m not willing to settle for anything less than radical, life-changing love. I want to believe My Person is out there, but it can be very lonesome and disheartening to realize you aren’t close at all to finding him.
Spend my lunch break reading snarky blogging forums. Oh, this is such a guilty pleasure. It’s entertaining and funny, and sometimes really, really enlightening.
Take Dutch on walks in my pajamas. To be fair, this only happens if it’s early in the morning (before 7am) or later at night (after 8pm) because I’m too lazy to put on real clothes. Nobody is usually out at this time and it’s usually a quick walk around our apartment. I don’t know why I feel like defending myself but… yeah. I do this.
Listen to music when I’m writing. It’s too distracting for me. Complete silence works much better. Sometimes, I’ll put on classical music if I need to drown out background noise (like this week, at work, when construction was happening in the office!), but mostly, I just like working in silence.
Knew how much protein I was getting daily, until I started tracking it in MFP. MFP gives me 73 grams a day for protein and I almost always eat more than that. I eat meat with almost every meal, so that’s mostly where it’s coming from. It’s just eye-opening to see how much protein I’m consuming and that a few meatless dishes probably wouldn’t hurt. (Now, if only I could find a dish that looked appetizing…)
Go a day without reading a book. Reading is just my thing, you know? I am always reading, whether I’m working out, getting ready for work, winding down for the night, taking a bubble bath, in the car, etc. Since I was a kid, there has never been a day that has gone by where I have not sat down for at least 15 minutes to read a book.
Use our fireplace. For some reason, our apartment came with a fireplace. I do not know why. We live in Florida. The coldest it got this winter was maybe 40 degrees. While it’s a nice addition to the apartment (that we didn’t have to pay extra for), it’s wholly unnecessary.
Your turn! What’s one of your “always,” “sometimes,” and “never?”

I forgot that I used to do this post series occasionally – I’ll have to do a post like this soon! You know, if you are serious about thinking about moving to a new state, maybe to test it out you could try taking a one week vacation to a city you are considering living. You could do airbnb so that you would stay in an apartment and could get a bit of a feel for what it would be like to live there… Just a suggestion that might help you determine whether starting over somewhere new is right for you!
Let’s see, I always start my day with coffee, I sometimes wonder if I will ever have kids because I am single and 33 but I also wonder if I have the energy to have them on top of my demanding job, and I never eat gluten. 🙂

I feel the same way about our ceiling fan! I don’t care if it’s 20 degrees outside I like to be covered and have air moving in the room!
I ALWAYS kiss Ben goodbye before leaving the apartment, even if it’s just to run to the store five minutes away. I SOMETIMES stop at Starbucks on my way to work even if it makes me later than I should be – sometimes you just need to! I have NEVER hosted Thanksgiving dinner, but I’m hoping to change that this year because we’ll be moving this summer and hopefully be in a bigger place!
Happy Friday!

D has to have noise when he sleeps so that means the ceiling fan and/or the air purifier are on. Every. Night. I’ve grown accustomed to it but at first it was weird and hard for me to sleep with the breeze and the noise 🙂
I always… pet Jack before I leave the house, tell D I love him when he leaves, even if he’s running to the gas station.
I sometimes… get to work early. Like at 7:30 And it astounds me.
I never… wake up the first time my alarm goes off. There is always one (or two) snoozes involved

I would recommend you to add in a few meatless meals not necessarily because it’s healthier or tastier but just because it’s better for the environment and it’s cost-effective! If EVERYONE in North America would cut out meat for one day a week it would make such a difference for our environment!
While I fully believe vegetarians and vegans can easily get their protein requirements I have to admit I find it much easier to get all my protein in since I’ve started eating meat again! But some days I don’t eat any meat (like yesterday I didn’t have any).
I let my animals give me kisses too. Chloe actually knows the word “kiss” and will lick us if we lean down and say “kiss” to her 🙂

Giiiirl, no shame… I walk Dakota in my pajamas every single morning when I first get up, and I don’t even care. 😉
On a more serious note… you will find your person! I have so many quirks of my own that I never thought I would. There is someone for everyone in this world. He is out there right now and you will meet one of these days! You may even meet him in the strangest of places while you’re not expecting it like I did. I mean, come on… MyFitnessPal?! Who would have thought.

I love Oh She Glows for fast and easy meatless meals. I’ve loved every single one of her recipes that I’ve tried! I have been hitting my protein grams lately but it definitely is easier on days that I eat greek yogurt. Otherwise I have to get creative. I eat a lot of beans, eggs, nuts, seeds & legumes, kale & spinach, in addition to greek yogurt.
I always kiss my kitties before I leave the house, I sometimes skip out on making my bed on the weekends and I never eat mushrooms! Fun post! 🙂

That is a little weird with the fireplace, but a little funny too. In my neighbourhood some houses don’t have air conditioning installed because they claim it doesn’t get hot enough, and when it does it’s “only for a couple of weeks.” Those people are out to lunch and AC is a necessity, in my books! On that note …
I ALWAYS will live in a house with air conditioning. When Kyle and I look at real estate, a house with no AC is a deal-breaker for us and you can bet that the cost to have one installed would be negotiated into the offer!
I SOMETIMES get so frustrated with some of the parents on Facebook mom groups that I’ll start to type out my 2-cents, but I’ll quickly backspace everything before hitting “Enter.”
I NEVER sleep without all of my blankets on (even in the summer, which makes my “always” comment seem silly). Kyle likes an ice-cold room, and while I hate being too warm, I hate the feeling of being “exposed” with no covers on, even though I wear pajamas to bed!

I read snarky blogging forums, too. Total guilty pleasure, and most definitely enlightening (and hilarious). 🙂
Ok, so I love to read and do it every day. But how do you read while you’re getting ready in the morning? I know a few people who do this and I don’t understand the logistics. I feel like I would be too distracted (and too tired, haha) to actually absorb anything I read. What’s your secret? I would love to be able to add a few extra minutes/pages each day to my reading addiction.
I have a great vegetarian chili recipe I can send you. The first time I made it, my husband didn’t even realize there was no meat in it.
Here are mine:
I always wear perfume. I feel naked without it. I don’t use a ton, just a few spritzes that last all day, but not in an overwhelming way (hopefully!).
I sometimes get overwhelmed with being an adult and will let the dishes sit in the sink for several days while I watch hours of TV every day when I get home from work.
I never go a day without washing my hair. I have to wash it. I just do. I have really thin hair that gets greasy. I can do a bit of dry shampoo to absorb the oil, but because it’s so thin, it looks so flat and limp and weird if it’s not clean and blown dry with a blow dryer. I am perfectly comfortable wearing sweats and no makeup in public, but always gotta have clean hair.

I loooove taking off my shoes at my desk. No apologies.
I was born in a country where all houses have built in ceiling fans but no longer live in it. We were just in Australia where they do have ceiling fans and it was just so weird – but necessary !
I used to never go a day without reading but that changed as I grew older. My main problem is I cannot stop once I start so I tend to binge read in stops and starts. I can’t just read a few chapters for 1/2 an hour before bed.

I am totally on your side with finding ‘the person’!!! I’m not willing to settle, or have something just because it’s something, but then I wonder if my own insecurities hold me back. Actually, I know they do. And that makes me sad. But then I look at some of my friends and I wonder how they can be so scared of leaving a ‘something’ when there is clearly something much better waiting! Hooray for people that won’t settle!!!
And hooray for doggy kisses too!
Melissa
a) Can I have your fireplace? It is still SO CHILLY here!
b) Sometimes I think of moving to an entire new province to start over too, but I get too scared. I can’t imagine leaving my whole family/life behind, even though sometimes I think it could be so easy to fall in love with a new place!
c) The whole protein thing is EXACTLY why I went vegetarian for a while. To prove to myself that I didn’t need to eat meat with every meal. I think you’d be surprised at how many vegetarian meals are suuuper delicious, especially if you like veggies. 😀

Hey there! Yes, I’m back to reading blogs. And I had to come straight to yours. 🙂 This is a great post idea. I loved reading it. Have fun on your cruise and I hope we can catch up soon!

If it makes you feel better, I also like to tug my leg under on my chair when I work. 🙂
I am pretty sure that you’ll find YOUR person when you least expect it 😉
