Feeling… a bit out of sorts lately. I’m not sure what’s going on, but I’ve felt a bit crabby lately. I have a short fuse, and I get annoyed by the slightest things. I haven’t been sleeping well lately, so maybe that’s why? I hope so, at least, and I hope I can snap out of this funk soon!
Writing… very little. I really want to make fiction writing a normal part of my routine, but it’s been really hard trying to fit it in. My weekends are filled with writing posts for this blog, being social, and having downtime so I haven’t figured out a way to also work on my novel. Luckily, I have my writing partner and we meet a couple of times a month (less now since she teaches college courses on top of a full-time work schedule so her time is very limited!), but I want to get into the habit of writing for at least 2-3 hours every weekend. Something’s gotta give!
Reading… The UltraMind Solution by Mark Hyman. I first heard about this book from Nicole, and the premise sounded very intriguing. I’m only reading a few chapters a week so I can digest and process the information slowly. I’m not sure if I’m 100% on board with his ideas, but I’m willing to read through his research and make up my own mind about it.
Listening… to fantasy football podcasts whenever I can. I’m a little obsessed. Add to the fact that the two podcasts I listen to update five times a week (usually an hour per episode!) and I’m inundated. But I can’t stop! They’re so interesting to listen to. At least to me.
Planning… a birthday getaway. I’m not sure yet what I want to do. I’m wavering between a long weekend in Orlando or driving up to St. Augustine for a few days. I’ve never been to St. Augustine, but I’ve wanted to visit for a long time. Have you been to St. Augustine? Is it worth it?
Happy… because I won my work’s football pool! I only won once last season (and I tied with another coworker so only got, like, $30!), so I’m pretty proud of myself for kicking ass. Now, if I can win once more then I can win back all the money I’ll put into the pool over the course of the season.
Anticipating… seeing Nora next week! I’m so excited we could work it out to spend some time together while she’s in Florida for the week. The weather looks dreadful (80% chance of rain all week!), but we’ll make it work. I’m just excited to see her and give her all of the hugs I’ve been wanting to give her over the course of this year.
Enjoying… apartment hunting. It’s fun! Right now, I’m doing it solely for research purposes. There are so many apartments to choose from. I have to decide where I want to live – St. Pete? Clearwater? Largo? Tampa? – and what kind of apartment I want and how much I’m willing to pay for it. And I wanted to get an idea of how much I’ll need to pay for move-in costs. I really loved the apartment I looked at last weekend and the rent comes under budget for me – even better!
Loving… Big Brother, that football is back, playing the Wii with my nephew, the Lumosity app, cookie dough, podcasts, Dutch snuggles, Dove chocolates, and long emails with faraway friends.
What are you currently reading, anticipating, and planning?
Akirah
I just finished the book 27 (Wrong) Reasons You’re Single. I agreed with most of it and enjoyed it a lot. I definitely recommend it to any woman, single or not.
Lisa of Lisa's Yarns
That is great that you saw an apartment that you liked that was under your budget! I hope you find a place you like in an area that you feel good about!
I totally agree that dating is exhausting but when you find a person you click with, it’s worth the effort. It’s just tough to put up with the frustration of dating when that light at the end of the tunnel seems so far off, though.
I’m currently reading “The Church of Tango” (err, I will be reading it next, I just finished the book “The Vacationers”). I”m anticipating my trip to SF at the end of the month but am wishing it wasn’t combined with a work trip because I feel so stressed about the meetings I’ll be doing out there so it sort of takes away from some of the excitement of going on vacation. And right now I am currently planning out my weekend which is filling up fast between Phil’s friend’s birthday celebration, my long run, visiting a friend who is getting chemo, going to my nephew’s football game and doing a bike tour of Minneapolis… Ufda. Good thing this past weekend was quiet because next weekend will be packed.
Vanessa
I have been much the same way lately – a little out of sorts. Here’s hoping it passes quickly for both of us!
J and I have decided to hold off on buying a home for the time being, and are instead considering an upgrade to a bigger apartment. I am so excited to go apartment hunting when the time comes, it’s unreal. It IS fun!
Nora
I love St. Augustine! I’ve never stayed over there so I can’t say how much it costs/if it’s worth it from that stand point but I loved the town, the fact that it’s on the water, the history. A really beautiful place.
Reading: Blackberry Winter by Sarah Jio & Ballroom by Alice Simpson.
Anticipating: the trip next week and seeing you!
Planning: the weekend just before my birthday; current plan is a pumpkin patch, hanging out with friends, Knight is going to smoke some meat, and if the weather cooperates, a bonfire!
Kara
I’m currently anticipating the wedding of two of my favourite friends this Saturday!! My whole household (minus the dogs) are in the wedding party, so it should be a hectic (but still amazing) day!!
Woo for winning the pool! I’ve only played a sports pool once (for hockey), and I won!! Granted, I had the help of my stepdad, but still!
Emilie
I’m sorry you’ve been feeling a little off. It’s such a bummer when that happens for no obvious reason…hope it goes away soon! I totally agree with you on the dating thing. I hate dating – it’s definitely exhausting! I think Lisa is right in that it’s totally worth the effort and frustration when you find someone that you click with.
I’m reading: Sheltering Rain – Jojo Moyes. I think it is her debut novel. It’s not fantastic but I’m enjoying it so far. I think something is about to unravel!
I’m anticipating: the wedding of one of my closest friends on Saturday, and my 20 mile run on Sunday. The weather looks fabulous for this weekend so I’m excited for both!
I’m planning: all the improvements I want to make to my grandmother’s house when we move in November!
Linda
Love this photo of you and love that you are meeting Nora!

Hope you feel more like yourself soon! That is so great you get to see Nora next week!! Give her an extra hug for me, k?
I’m currently anticipating the weekend, just really need some downtime after a crazy week at work!
Kate @ GreatestEscapist.com
I love that you’re listening to fantasy football podcasts! I joined a league but just can’t get into it this year…
Melissa
I don’t know who ever tried to convince us dating wasn’t hard or intimidating. Because it REALLY IS. All the time.
On a more positive (and jealous) note: I want to be able to have weekend (birthday) getaways! I’m so jealous you live in such a pretty, summery place. Make the best of it for both of us!
