1 – Going to a flower farm with Amber! This was so much fun—they had rows and rows and rows of wildflowers and sunflowers to pick from and we had a great time strolling through the flowers and picking our favorite ones.
2 – A lovely dinner out with my mom and my cousin Rachel. I love our girls’ nights out!
3 – Getting my passport in the mail! They estimated 8-10 weeks of processing but it only took about a month! It is such a relief to have my passport in my hands.
4 – Going to my mom’s to wash lovebug splatter off my car. When I was driving home from the flower farm, there were a couple of miles where it felt like it was raining lovebugs and they kept crashing into my windshield and dying. I forgot that you shouldn’t try to wipe them off with your windshield wipers, so of course I did that and it just ended up smearing the love bugs all over my windshield. I went through a car wash a day later but there was still some splatter so I went to my mom’s where we used her garden hose and dryer sheets to clear off the rest of the lovebugs. Grateful that my mom was able to help me with this!
5 – A phone call with a colleague to talk through some work issues. It was nice to have a space to vent and offer my own support/advice.
6 – Watching a Mike Birbiglia comedy special on Netflix. He was recently on a podcast I listen to and had me laughing so hard I was crying, so I knew I needed more of his comedy in my life!
7 – The return of writing dates! It was so nice to see Mikaela and to snuggle Eleni!
8 – Mother’s Day! I had brunch with my mom, stepdad, and my brother and his family. It was really nice!
9 – Celebrating Lila’s birthday (which was the day before). She got some yummy wet food and lots of snuggles and love.
10 – A day at the office! It was my first time working in the new office and I enjoyed it so much more than I thought I would. I went out to lunch with two coworkers and then went out to happy hour with a bunch of other coworkers. There’s truly nothing like being together in person!
11 – A day off! I decided to take a random Wednesday off, since I had my yearly vision appointment and annual exam, both scheduled at weird times. Both appointments went well and after my vision appointment, I ordered some Warby Parker glasses to try on at home.
12 – Waking up to a 67-degree morning! Being able to take a morning walk without sweating profusely was unexpected and quite nice.
13 – A meeting with my writers where we played two truths and a lie. I was happy that everyone participated and had fun!
14 – My mom crashed our writing date! She snuggled Eleni for an hour and a half. Eleni fell asleep on her shoulder and would get fussy if my mom tried to move her. So cute!
15 – A pool day! I bought a big floppy hat and a pool float at Target. We even got Lucy in the pool for a little bit but she needs some floaties.
16 – My Warby Parker home try-ons arriving! It was so fun to play around with them.
17 – Watching a few episodes of Ted Lasso that just tugged at my heartstrings. This show!
18 – Having a really productive meeting with my director to discuss some work issues I’m dealing with. It’s so nice to have a supportive boss who really listens to me.
19 – Getting Wordle in two tries! I can die happy.
20 – Chopping off my hair! I went to a new stylist since my previous one moved away and I liked her a lot! She was so bubbly and fun and kept us chit-chatting for the entire four hours I was there. I’ve never been one of those people who can just sit in the chair and talk and talk and talk to my hair stylist. It helps to have a super chatty stylist who asks lots of questions. And my hair turned out wonderfully!
21 – Receiving a ton of coloring books from a blog reader. They’re from all over the world! What a sweet gift.
22 – A full day to myself where I slept in, got a pedicure, did my grocery shopping, and got some reading and computer work done.
23 – Unintentionally sleeping in until 8 a.m. My alarm turned itself off at some point overnight so I woke up feeling very rested.
24 – Today was the Ulvade shooting. There are no good things, no good words. My heart is broken for these families and this community.
25 – The Survivor finale. It was such a satisfying one!
26 – Getting my Stitch Fix preview email! I like to select 3 items from the 10 they’ve picked out for me, and then ask to be surprised for the other 2 items. (Sometimes I’ll ask for something specific like a pair of shorts, but I think it’s fun to be surprised every now and then.)
27 – Dinner at IHOP with Amber! I’ve been craving their chocolate chip pancakes for a long time and they hit the spot.
28 – So You Think You Can Dance! I haven’t watched this show in years but it used to be one of my favorites. It was fun to watch the first few episodes of this new season. (Of course, after I watched these episodes, I found out about Matthew Morrison being a goddamn creep. Gross men are gross.)
29 – Podcasting day with Bri! We recorded two episodes and then spent some time in her pool. It was a wonderful day!
30 – Memorial Day! I spent the day at my mom’s and we took the dogs into the pool. They didn’t love it, but they didn’t mind hanging out on the pool floats.
31 – A helpful therapy session. We talked through some of the anxiety issues I have when traveling and came up with some strategies to help when those issues rear their head.
Tell me one good thing that happened to you in May!
NGS
Oh, I’m so glad your passport arrived. I know you were nervous about that. So many beautiful photos – kitties, puppies, babies, and flowers – it looks like a great month.
Stephany
It was such a relief to get my passport wayyy ahead of my vacation!
Lisa of Lisa's Yarns
Your new haircut looks so great! I love the Eleni pics – she is such a cutie and is growing so fast! I love snuggling babies – it’s so calming for me.
Something good in May. Oof. It was a rough month, but the Friday before I tested positive for covid, I went out to dinner with 2 college friends. It was wonderful to miss both bedtimes and catch up with girlfriends. I’m thinking I got covid there but who knows? We were so spaced out from other diners so it would be crazy if that is where I got it but I don’t know where else it might have happened.
Stephany
Thank you! I am loving the shorter cut so much more than I thought I would.
It’s always so hard to figure out where the Covid came from, isn’t it? For me, I am 90% sure it came from the airplane but it also could have happened at any point during my vacation as I didn’t wear a mask anywhere. But what can we do? It’s part of life now, I guess.
Kim
Picking flowers like that sounds so fun!
We mailed our passports in just under 3 weeks ago. I hope they come fast, even though we have no where to go, LOL!
I did not know about the lovebug fly and googled it! TIL. LOL
Your new haircut looks fab! Did it take four hours because you did color too?
I forgot to stay in the last post that you should totally spend more time in your mom’s pool this year! That sounds divine!
I am glad you enjoyed your office day! I mostly enjoy mine!
A good thing that happened to me in May is that my niece was born 🙂
Stephany
You’re not the only person to say you didn’t know about lovebugs. They are EVERYWHERE in Florida this time of year. Sometimes it looks like it’s raining lovebugs!
And yes, it was a long, 4-hour appointment because I got my whole head highlighted, did a deep conditioning treatment, and got the haircut + style. A long appointment! But worth it. 🙂
Elisabeth
These posts are so, so fun. I feel like I could comment on everything.
The hair looks amazing. We got Wordle in 2 tries a few weeks ago and yelled so loud Levi started crying. It was just an instinctive reaction from the rest of us. I was SO, SO excited. Maybe a little too excited over an online word game?!
I love pancakes. Yum.
And everyone is talking about Ted Lasso. I really should check it out…
Stephany
A Wordle in 2 tries day is just MAGICAL. It really sets the stage for a wonderful day – ha. It hasn’t happened to me again, but I’m holding out hope that another Wordle-in-2 day is coming!
Nicole MacPherson
What a great month! Love the hair!
Stephany
Thank you! I’m loving the short hair so much more than I thought I would. 🙂
Jenny
Oh, I love that you’re taking the dogs to the pool! So cute. And I love your hair.
I forgot about the lovebugs- I’ve had that same issue while driving through central Florida. Other than that, the flower farm looks amazing.
Stephany
We took them to the dog beach in June and they did so good swimming! My mom’s pool is currently out of commission while they get their pool cleaner fixed (terrible timing, wahh!) but I hope we can take the dogs back in the pool later this summer and see how they do with swimming!
San
Oops, and there is my question answered… you did get your passport. Yay!
I wish I had friends with a pool. Pool days ARE so not part of my summer routine, although I definitely wish they were as we’re dealing with hot temperatures during the summer months. I Iove our duplex and the private backyard and I am glad we moved here, but I sometimes wish we had picked an apartment complex with a pool instead. Maybe I should get a kiddy pool to sit in? LOL
Love your new haircut!
Stephany
There’s a nice big pool at my complex but I rarely go to it. I’d much rather go to my mom’s for a more private pool day. It can get chaotic there in the summer!
Kate
Your hair looks great! And I’ve gotta tell you, I had to Google “lovebugs.” I’ve never heard the term referring to an actual bug! Didn’t even know they existed, haha
Stephany
That is SO funny to me that you had to google lovebugs! TIL that they are likely native to Florida! I seriously thought they were everywhere.
Anne
OK, I’m sorry – lovebugs just look gross. And then splattered = even grosser. How on earth did they get that name?
Eleni, however, is the cutest, snuggliest little baby! I am glad you (and your mom, LOL) are enjoying your time with her.
LOVE LOVE LOVE the hair, as I have said. And thank goodness on the passport. (I need to post – have been AWOL far too long and ooof it’s been an interesting ride the last few weeks -but we are no longer going international for vacation later this summer. But I needed an updated one anyway, so… now it’s done. :>)
Stephany
They’re called lovebugs because they fly around attached to one another, mating. So yes, all of that lovebug splatter on my car was lovebugs I killed while they were doin’ it. So romantic, huh? 😉
