1 – Today begins Day 1 of my official sugar detox, with Nicole’s 30-Day Sugar Detox. The first 20 days have been about self-discovery, education, and giving us the tools to create a low-sugar lifestyle. I have been really enjoying doing the work this course requires because it’s caused me to get down and dirty with my feelings regarding sugar and how I use it as a coping mechanism. I’m nervous and excited about what these next five days will bring. I’m sure there will be withdrawals and cravings, but since I’ve never done a detox to this magnitude (literally, no sugar. Not even fruit!), I’m interested in what other epiphanies come to me and how it makes me feel once the withdrawals pass. It’ll be a hard five days, but I think I’m ready for it.
2 – Last Friday, I went out with a bunch of coworkers to happy hour at Carrabba’s and then to see the movie This Is The End at the Tampa Pitcher Show (this really cool movie theater where you can eat dinner while watching a movie) We might be the only four people in the world who thought this movie was terrible. The first 15 minutes were moderately funny and from then on, it just kept getting weirder and weirder and weirder. Maybe I’m just sensitive to topics like the end of the world and people poking fun at it. Maybe I just don’t get stoner comedy. Maybe I’m just too much of a fuddy-duddy but man, give me Vince Vaughn and Ben Stiller over this group of guys any day. We all spent most of the movie shaking our heads and saying, “WHAT is going on?” Finally, about an hour into the movie, we just got up and left. Very disappointing!
3 – On Tuesday, I had to take my car in for service. Monday morning on the way to work, my “maintenance required” light turned on and didn’t shut off. For the past month and a half, it’s been flashing at me for about 5 seconds when I turn my car on but then goes away, so as any good car owner would, I’ve been ignoring it. So I made an appointment (online! Oh, how I love companies that let you book appointments online.) and took her in. Luckily, the only thing she needed was an oil change, although there was some slight corrosion on my battery and for a mere $50, I could get that cleaned up. (I said no thanks, as it’s something I can do on my own. I am woman, hear me roar!)
4 – I know the weather is the most boring thing to talk about, but on Wednesday, I woke up at 5am and I looked at the weather. EIGHTY FRIGGIN DEGREES. At 5am! Every time I walk outside, it feels like I’m walking into a furnace. A wall of intense heat and humidity just hits you smack in the face. It’s awful. And it’s only June. Wah, wah, wah. I’m totally used to this type of weather (and hot > cold for me), but I still want a chance to complain.
5 – I have a very low-key weekend planned since I’ll be detoxing. I want to get in two workouts on Saturday and Sunday, a trip to the farmer’s market, grocery store, and possibly check out an organic food market (though I hear their prices are outrageous, so I’m not sure if it will be a very successful trip…), and a trip to the library to pick up a requested book. I’ll be sticking close to home for most of the weekend, though, as I know my energy levels will be down. Lots of reading and lots of writing (and lots of napping?) are on the agenda!
Have a wonderful weekend everyone!
Nora
napping is essential some weekends! Good luck with the detox!
Tomorrow we are going strawberry picking and then will probably take the girls to see Monsters U and I’m sure there will be a library trip or two in there, as well. Sunday will be a pool day as it’s going to be insanely hot here (upper 90s) with about 50% humidity. Oh, STL summers, I both love and hate you.
Linda
Dude. We are weather twins. Texas is steamy even when the sun is down.

Your weekend sounds wonderfully relaxing! I did a one-week sugar detox a few weeks ago… the first few days are the hardest, then it was just special events with desserts that were hard.
Melissa
Hope your detox is going well! The weather in Florida sounds kinda terrifying… I’m excited to face it for myself!! Haha
Gina
Good luck with the detox! I don’t know if I could give up sweets AND fruit. Fruits are my healthy dessert! 😛

I hope that the sugar detox is going well so far! I bet you are learning a lot about yourself in the process! I hope the first few days haven’t been too brutal!

I love your grocery cart. It looks like you are ready for this challenge! I once went to Walmart and had a cart full of stuff like yours. The guy in front of me had about 6 2 Liter bottles of Coke, 3 frozen pizzas and a bunch of cans of Dinty Moore Beef Stew. I remember thinking about how he did not have a single vegetable or piece of fruit in his cart. I wish someone would have taught him about how much sugar is in what he had in his cart!

Your grocery cart looks full of yummy stuff! I hope the detox is going well so far.
