1) Like most pets (and people), my cats are creatures of habit. They have very specific napping spots in the apartment, and they (almost) never deviate from them. Eloise likes to spend the mornings on my bed and then she’ll come out of my room when I’m making lunch and spend the rest of the day either sleeping on my desk, on the window ledge, or on the couch. Sometimes, she’ll go into her cat cave or into her bus. Occasionally, she’ll loaf on the floor of my room. Lila, on the other hand, spends most of the day under the couch (sometimes under my bed). She’ll also sleep on her hammock, scratchy bed, or sleep sack (she lays on top of it; never burrows inside). Sometimes, she’ll sleep on the rug in front of the couch or on the couch itself. Do my girls have enough places to sleep?! I think so, but then I see cute beds like this and this and I’m like, maybe they need more?! (Damn you, Chewy!)
2) This week, I’ve challenged myself to only drink one soda per day and I’m proud to say I’ve stuck with it! (I mean, it’s been four days so I’m not giving myself too many gold stars yet.) One of the things I consistently forget about drinking soda is how much the caffeine affects my sleep. Logically, I know that it keeps me awake, but I don’t typically have an issue falling or staying asleep. I’ve been drinking my one soda with lunch, which means I’m not drinking any caffeine past 1pm and my sleep has been amazing. I’m sleeping so much deeper (I usually wake up frequently throughout the night and fall right back asleep, but this week, I haven’t noticed that happening as much) and waking up so much easier. Can I please remember this the next time I want to have a soda at 9pm?! It’s not worth it!
3) I received my lease renewal this week (how is it already time to think about this?!) and I was flabbergasted to find out that my rent is increasing $73 per month. What the what?! I’ve lived in this community since 2015 and they have never increased my rent that much over one year. Typically, they don’t raise it at all! But I’ll be renewing because, even with this increase, I wouldn’t be able to find a cheaper apartment that has the same amenities as this one. And also, no way in hell do I want to move in two months when it feels like I just went through that. Nope, nope, nope.
4) How about something happier? Let’s talk about Olive! She’s about to start her final round of chemo soon! Can you believe it? We made it to the finish line! She is such a warrior baby. Over the past six months, she’s endured major abdominal surgery and seven rounds of chemo and is still such a happy, joyful little girl. I can’t wait for her to be able to be just a kid again, and not have to deal with cancer treatments and hospitals. Mikaela brought Olive to book club this week and it was so lovely to see her! We’re so ready to celebrate her at her post-treatment party soon. We’re almost there!
5) This weekend is shaping up to be a fun one! I am kicking it off with a facial and then shopping with my mom. And tomorrow night, my cousin is getting married! I’m so excited to celebrate her and her soon-to-be wife who has been such a natural fit in our boisterous family. It will be really fun, especially with the whole family together, and I’m really looking forward to it. And Sunday will be for relaxing!
What are your weekend plans?
Kim
Ooo, a family wedding! Congrats to your cousin and her soon-to-be wife!
Your cats need all those beds. Don’t think twice, put it in your cart. Or maybe not if rent is going up that much. OUCH!
I am so glad Olive is doing so well and nearing the end of treatment. Seeing your updates on her makes me so happy!
That is great the one soda a day is helping your sleep so much! YAY YAY YAY!
I am excited to see F9 this weekend, and my family (my parents and one nephew are coming to visit).
Suzanne
Boo for rent increase and YAY for Olive!!! So appreciate you sharing her story!

So glad that Olive is doing so well. She and her family have been through soooo much this year. What a resilient little lady! I hope she is in remission at the end of these treatments! All the prayers and fingers/toes crossed for that. I can’t imagine going through what they’ve been through.
That sucks that your rent is increasing so much. Womp womp. Definitely makes sense to stay put, though. I bought a condo as a result of a big rent increase. That ended up being a mistake, though! I think my rent was increasing by $100 or something like that, which was ridiculous!

Sorry about the rent increase. Our rent was increased too and I wasn’t excited about it. We’re already paying a lot (even though our rent is on the cheaper side for where in the city we live), but $50 more is $50 that I’d like to spend on something else. Sigh.
But I understand that it’s not an option for you to move again. Did they give you a heads-up at least? I mean, you just moved!
Anne
You already know how I feel about Olive! I hope that the final cycle went well (fingers crossed) and that she is in remission after all of this. I am so thrilled for her, for her family, for her family’s friends… what a fighter!
Man, bummer about the rent. I totally get it. I do not want to move – and I could not start a new lease anywhere near here (a great location) without paying through the nose. I’m also not ready to buy – have been burned waaaay too many times.
