Looking Forward was a series I used to do on my blog but I haven’t done it since 2018. What?! Let’s talk about some of the things I’m looking forward to this week, next month, and in the coming months.
This week, I’m looking forward to a clay-throwing book club experience and getting my third tattoo.
It’s going to be a big week for me! On Wednesday, my book club is getting together for our September meeting and Bri booked us a night at a nearby pottery studio to do clay throwing! This is something I’ve always wanted to do, but I feel so intimidated by the process. Thankfully, this is a private event for just the six of us so we’ll get lots of one-on-one time. I’m excited! Check out the event venues in Flagstaff for your future events.
Then for event planning, the importance of exceptional service provision becomes clear. Ensuring that your guests have access to a wide array of drinks, served by courteous and skilled staff, is paramount. This level of service can be found with Bar Events UK, which specializes in bringing top-tier bar services to any event.
And then on Thursday, it’s time to finally get that third tattoo that I’ve been talking about for two years. This tattoo is in honor of my grandma and I’ve spent a lot of time thinking about what I want and where I want it. I’ve finally settled on the design and placement, and I can’t wait to unveil it all soon!
Next month, I’m looking forward to getting LASIK.
This is happening next Friday! It feels so soon, but also so far away. Every time I tell someone I’m getting the procedure, they tell me how much my life is about to change in the best way possible. And I keep thinking about how nice it will be to be able to see from MY OWN EYEBALLS without having corrective lenses. I’ll be able to see my face when I’m doing my makeup! I won’t have to switch between my prescription sunglasses and regular glasses when I’m out and about! I won’t see little starbursts around lights when I’m driving at night! I am so ready for this.
This year, I’m looking forward to the holidays and a family vacation in the mountains.
The holiday season is always my favorite time of year, and it’s going to be more special this year as my mom, my stepdad, the dogs, and I will be spending the week after Christmas in a Tennessee cabin near the Smoky Mountains. We planned this trip early in the year and it’s finally time for me to put my planning hat on and put together our itinerary. I am looking into moderate hikes we can do (both with the dogs and without) as well as some nearby attractions. We have Ober Gatlinburg on our list where we’ll be able to do some snow tubing and other fun winter-y things. I really hope we get some snow while we’re there (my cousin goes every year to this area during the last week of the year, and it’s never snowed for her, so I’m not holding my breath). I haven’t seen snow since I was TWELVE, if you can believe it, so I’m desperate.
Next year, I’m looking forward to visiting California with my mom in the spring.
On a whim, my mom booked us a 4-day cruise that leaves from Los Angeles. So, naturally, I thought: Let’s make this an extended vacation! Neither of us has ever been to California so it’s going to be a fun time for the two of us. I’m already looking at studio tours to do and other touristy things, and I can’t wait to sit down and actually plan this vacation for us!
What is something you’re looking forward to?

Clay throwing sounds interesting, but how does the book discussion come into play? Do you do it before? After? Is it just an excuse to get together and the book doesn’t really matter? Do tell.
I love planning vacations! Especially when you are traveling with someone that you jive with and you can have some freedom to book whatever you like! I know you and your Mom are good traveling buddies so I am sure you will have tons of fun on both of your trips!
I am looking forward to getting my annual bonus and going traveling! This does not happen until February but I already have a list of things that I want to spend some money on; I just have to figure out which one I am going to choose!
Stephany
We did the book discussion while we were painting our clay objects! Turned out that only 3 of the 6 of us read the book, haha, so the discussion went fairly quickly.
That’s exciting that you get an annual bonus and can spend it on things you really value, like traveling! I’m excited to see where life takes you in 2024 – following along on your traveling journeys is always fun!

I absolutely love this and reading about all the fun things you have coming up. I cannot wait to see the new tattoo and hope you get snow on your holiday as well. I have found myself in LA quite a bit recently (going back in Nov!) and recommend the Warner Brothers studio! We thought it was so well done. And if you like the show Friends there is a shitton of Friends stuff.
Gosh I have so much to look forward to! Lots of fun travel coming up! AR this weekend, Maine the week after, LA in November, Europe in April (I started planning with Amber). I feel so excited!
Stephany
The Warner Bros tour is the one I’m eyeing! We would definitely go nuts to be on the set of Friends, haha. So I think that may be the one we do!
You have done so much traveling this year! And I’m so excited you’re working with Amber for your big Europe trip next year. Yay!

So many exciting things to look forward to! I know you already have a couple of tattoos, but are you at all nervous about it? I am such a baby that I can’t imagine sitting for the length of getting an entire tattoo. LOL.
Stephany
Oh, I was definitely nervous about it! I don’t do well with pain and this tattoo ended up being VERY painful and took 90 minutes! We took some breaks, which was much needed, but yes, they are painful and I just try to distract myself during it!

The bookclub thing sounds great. I’m looking forward to all things autumn: pretty leaves, pumpkins, not being too hot when I go for a walk outside, denim jackets, football games. Just bring it on 🍁
Stephany
Hooray for fall! We are getting a SLIGHT cooldown here in FL and it’s less humid, which is ALWAYS a good thing!

Oh goodness, Los Angeles can be a lovely time. My very favorite thing I did on a recent visit (very early 2020) was The Huntington, which is gardens and museum and library, check it out and see if that’s your vibe. There is a great place to have high tea, so lovely. Also love the Santa Monica pier. I’m glad you’re spending some time there, you will love it.
Good luck with the LASIK! I’m excited for you.
Stephany
Thank you for the recs, J! I’ll look them up and see about adding them to our itinerary.

I am so excited for your to get LASIK (and still a bit sad I wasn’t a candidate) – I think you’ll love it. Even with all the complications that have gone along with my procedure, it is lovely to actually be able to see! And it still strikes me as crazy that when I take a shower or wake up in the morning, I can immediately see. After almost 3 decades with glasses, I’m not used to not needing them – even nearly 5 months after PRK!
Stephany
I’m SO very glad I am a candidate for traditional LASIK. Your experience was really rough, and I’m glad things are FINALLY starting to be better. Thank goodness!
Nicole MacPherson
Oh, this all sounds so great, Stephany! California is gorgeous, I have been there a few times.
Good luck with the tattoo and with LASIK! I think you’ll be very happy.
Stephany
I am so excited to make my first trip to California! It’s going to be so fun. 🙂

I’m so glad you were a LASIK candidate! I have heard it’s life changing! I don’t know anyone that hasn’t been happy with their decision!
And your holiday getaway sounds SO COZY! I hope you do get to see some snow. That is a gorgeous part of the country.
I’m looking forward to cool, crisp fall weather, changing leaves, and the Halloween related things we are doing, like a pumpkin event at the zoo and pumpkin carving with friends!
Stephany
Everyone I’ve told about LASIK is so excited for me and has told me how amazing it is. I can’t wait to experience it for myself!
I really, really hope we get snow in Tennessee! It would be so fun!!
Kate
OMG so jealous of your LASIK. Good luck tomorrow!!! It’s gonna be SO great to be able to see out of your own eyes, haha
San
A clay-throwing workshop – now that sounds like fun. I am sure I’ll read more about it in one of your next posts (I am catching up, as always ;)).
I am super-excited for you about your LASIK surgery (I knew you wanted this for a while) and for your trip to California. Hooray. I hope you’ll love it.
Anne
Augh – I can’t wait to get to the entry(ies) where you talk about the LASIK! I’ve already seen the tattoo – and love it – on IG, but I am just so curious about your LASIK experience. I hope hope hope it was a good one.
You have so many fun things coming up! You plan it out so well to infuse fun and joy into all seasons of life – it’s something I really admire about you.
