Tomorrow is June 1st! SAY WHAT?!
I’m quite excited that it’s summer, though, and all the fun that awaits me this upcoming month. Things like not spending any money, quitting sugar, and doing the 30-Day Shred! Oh. Wait. It will be a challenging month, that’s for sure, but I’m more than ready to handle it.
For my new style of recapping the month and looking forward to the next one, I’m following Jessica’s style of reflecting on three great things that happened in May and setting three intentions for June. Let’s get right to it, shall we?
In May, I…
1. Came back from another fabulous cruise. It feels weird that I just came back from my cruise at the beginning of May. Between settling back into normal life and a spontaneous mini-vacation in Orlando, my cruise feels like a lifetime ago! As expressed in my multiple blog posts on the subject, my cruise was nothing but wonderful and I’m so happy I had the opportunity to go. I’m not planning on cruising again for a while (I have two major life goals I want to cross off before I even think about booking another cruise!) so I tried to enjoy every moment and soak up all the incredible experiences.
2. Vacationed in Orlando! I just came back from a fabulous, whirlwind trip in Orlando on Monday and it was such a fun little getaway. We visited Hollywood Studios and Disney World and while it was hot and crowded on both days, I still had a fabulous time. I love Orlando!
3. Won a spot in Nicole’s 30-Day Sugar Detox program. When I found out about the 30-Day Sugar Detox program, run by the fabulous Nicole of Life Less Bullshit, I knew I wanted to join in. But when enrollment rolled around, I was at a crossroads with my finances and I couldn’t fit all the pieces together to make it work. So when Amy hosted a giveaway for it, I immediately put my name in the ring and I won! I am super, super excited because I desperately need this and I just know it is going to be life-changing for me.
In June, I will…
1. Shut down all electronics by 9pm. I had been doing good with getting to bed at a decent time, which made waking up early to exercise before work almost easy. (Almost. A 5:30am alarm is never actually easy to wake up to.) Lately, though, I’m getting to bed later and later, leading me to press snooze and tell myself I’ll work out after work. (Which is not my favorite.) I think I need to get back into the habit of powering down the laptop, turning off the TV, and preparing for bed by 9pm to get back to my early bedtimes. My mornings are feeling rushed and frantic, which leads to me feeling very panicky and stressed on a daily basis. Early bedtime = more sleep = happier me. It’s a win-win!
2. Do the 30-Day Shred. I need a boost in my fitness routine and I thought completing another 30-Day Shred challenge would be just the ticket! The last time I completed this challenge, I lost 4 inches around my body so I’m hoping coupling the workouts with better eating habits will bring me even greater results.
3. Drink water with all of my meals. I go through highs and lows with my water consumption. Some weeks, I’m a water drinkin’ machine and other weeks? It’s all I can do to down even 20 ounces! I know I feel better when I’m drinking a lot of water, so I want to get back into the habit of it. Plus, it’s June in Florida which means hot temps and crazy humidity. Water is a must!
What is one great thing that happened in your life in May? Have you set any intentions for June?
Allison @ With Faith & Grace
May was actually full of disappointments what with not getting into nursing school, but I’m hoping June will bring me the A I so need in the Anatomy & Physiology class that I’m taking over. My intention? Studying my butt off!
Stephany
I’m bummed that May didn’t turn up with the good news you were hoping for. I like your intention, though! As long as you put in the hard work, that’s all you can ask for yourself. I remember taking Anatomy & Physiology in college, it is SUCH a hard class. I failed during my first attempt but had a WONDERFUL professor my second time and made A’s. But it takes SO much studying. (After taking that class, I knew I never wanted to do anything with medicine! Ha.) Good luck!

I think that I will get on board w/ the 30-day shred! I can do this, right????
Stephany
Yes! You can totally do this. Let me know if you want an accountability partner. I’m not going to do it every day, but I’m shooting for 5-6x a week.

Sugar detox program, huh? Come to think of it, sugar is put into SO MUCH STUFF! I bet you’d gain copious amounts of energy from such a detox 🙂
Stephany
I’m really excited about it, because the majority of the month will be spent dissecting what sugar is, how it affects out body, and our emotional connection to it. The detox itself is only 5 days long. I can do 5 days without sugar!
Linda
May was sweet wasn’t it?
My highlight is my trip as well. My next trip is a long weekend in Portland for WDS. So June is going to be about saving money and debt tackling.
Stephany
May was a good month for both of us! I’m hoping to make it to Miami in August for a long weekend, but I’m definitely on board with saving money and debt tackling, right along with you.
Nora
We had friends visit from out of town, celebrated five birthdays, and did a ton of work around the house.
My intention for June is to take things as they come and remember that life doesn’t have to be so serious. Nothing that I can really measure, but I think i’ll know if it’s working based upon how I feel about things =) It’s going to be a whirlwind in a few weeks for me so I’m trying to just relax a bit and go with the flow more.
Stephany
Five birthdays! Crazy. 🙂
I really like your intention. I think that’s an important lesson to remember, especially when things get nuts. Going with the flow is something I need to work on, too!
Lindsay
The 30-Day Shred is intense! I’ve never gotten past the second level. Maybe I should give it a try again.
Stephany
I’ve found Level 2 to be the toughest level. I think Level 3 is my favorite. I mean, I use the term “favorite” very loosely. More like, I-Don’t-Feel-Like-Harming-Jillian-As-Much in Level 3. 😉 You should definitely give it another go!
katelin
oh i like the shutting down electronics by 9 goal, that’s an awesome one. i’ve been trying to keep my phone in my room for most of the night but usually i crack and play a game or check something, ha.
my other goal for june is to relax more, spend more time with friends and read.
Stephany
Those sound like perfect goals for June! 🙂

I right there with you on fitness, eating less sugar, and drinking more water. Let’s make it happen!
Stephany
Yes, let’s do it! I think it’ll make us feel so much better than indulging in all our whims. 🙂
Melissa
I really like this style of re-capping! I think I need to get back into some kind of blogging schedule, it’s just been really tough. I miss re-capping my months regularly and figuring out my monthly goals. I MISS it. It’s just so hard with such a fluctuating lifestyle! Sigh.
Sounds like June will be a very productive month for you, though!
Stephany
I am fully on board with you getting back to a regular blogging schedule. I miss seeing you in my reader on a regular basis. 🙂
Jessica Lawlor
Love all of these goals for May and I can’t wait to hear about how the no-sugar detox goes! 🙂
Jessica Lawlor
Whoa…I meant goals for June 🙂
Gina
That’s so awesome you won a spot in the 30 Day Detox AND you’re doing the 30 day shred! June is going to be a kick ass month for you!

Hmmm… May…. Let’s see. One great thing that happened was that I had a great business trip with a colleague and it was like having a friend again for a couple of days. We really hit it off. She was single at my age and has moved around a ton, so she could really relate to how I am feeling. (I have to say, May was such a dark, tough month, it was hard to think back on a positive moment, but thanks for making me do that as there were some good moments amidst the awfulness of CFA studying!).
My goal for June is to try to get back into shape and lose the weight I put on while in the boot. I am doing 2-a-day workouts 2-3 days a week and will bike in the morning and swim at night. Hopefully I start to whittle away on some of my weight gain and start to feel more like myself again!
