I did so well on my goals in January! Yay, me! Let’s hope I can bring this momentum into February. 🙂
January Goals
1) Figure out how much my bedroom set will cost. Complete! I’m still working with my brother to decide on which mattress/box spring set he’ll deliver for me, but I have picked out my new bedframe, new quilt, and sheets. I haven’t ordered anything yet.
2) Recategorize all 2011 blogs. Complete! I had to go through some of the posts and re-upload my photos since they weren’t showing up (I moved from Blogspot to self-hosted WordPress sometime in 2011 or 2012, and I think that messed up my photos), so the process was much more involved than expected. But it was fun to look through old photos of me from the first cruise I took in 2011. Baby Steph!
3) Schedule a knife skills class with Amber. Not complete. We talked about this and found a class that was open, but I forgot to follow up with Amber to get it scheduled.
4) Watch Glass Onion. Complete! 3.5/5 stars for me.
5) Make a “to-do” list for my morning and nighttime routines. Complete! I really like having a task list to run through every morning and evening.
6) Find the hosting platform for our podcast website. Not complete. I didn’t work on this at all in January. Oops.
7) Hang my wall clock. Complete! It was such an easy task, too.
8) Start each day by filling up my water bottle with ice water. Mostly complete. I’m not great about filling up my water bottle on weekends, but I do it pretty much every weekday at least.
9) Attend a silent reading event. Complete! It was so much fun! I’m excited to go again this month.
10) Pay off my credit card. Complete! Woohoo! Now I can finally focus on other financial goals.
February Goals
1) Decide on the mattress I want to buy. Like I said above, my brother and I have been talking about my new mattress/box spring. He’s been getting me prices for different mattresses, and now I just need to decide which mattress I want so I can get this process rolling.
2) Recategorize all 2012 blogs. New month, new year of blog categorizing to do!
3) Schedule a knife skills class with Amber. We need to get this scheduled soon, as classes fill up really fast!
4) Start my nighttime routine by 8pm, Sunday-Thursday. I’m still working on getting to bed at a decent hour. I’m a work in progress, all right?! My goal is to start my nighttime routine by 8pm Sunday through Thursday so I can be in bed around 9, giving me about an hour to read and wind down for the night.
5) Try a new dessert recipe for the Super Bowl. Our Super Bowl parties are always fun, even if they haven’t included the usual crowd lately. I typically make homemade cookies (Nestle Tollhouse recipe, nothin’ fancy) and I’ll still make them for the party, but I may try my hand at another dessert just because.
6) Find the hosting platform for our podcast. Rollover goal.
7) Make a spreadsheet for apartment hunting. I’m a little early for this, I know, but I am just so excited about moving! While I have semi-complete list in my phone of the apartments I have my eye on, I want to start a detailed spreadsheet for the research process.
8) Schedule a dermatology appointment to get a retinoid prescription. I’ve been taking retinol for about two years now, and while I guess it’s working, I know that taking a retinoid (which requires a prescription) is better than over-the-counter retinol. So it’s time to do that, so this face can age gracefully and beautifully!
9) Stand up for one hour each workday. I have a sit/stand desk, but I very rarely use the standing option because I just don’t think about doing so. My goal this month is to force myself to stand up for an hour (which can be broken up into 20-minute increments throughout the day) every workday.
10) Limit myself to two Ubereats orders per week. I can easily order Ubereats 5+ times a week. Each order is usually at least $20 so sometimes I’m spending $120 just on Ubereats orders. !!! Can you imagine how much money I could save if I wasn’t spending so much money on Ubereats orders? Limiting myself to two orders per week feels doable, but also slightly challenging. Let’s see how it goes!
Do you have any goals for February?
Sarah
I am still working on February, but I know right now I want to use your checklist for morning/nighttime from January. SO many things slip through the cracks for me, but really, I have never thought about just making a list. Maybe I will laminate it, even.
Stephany
I posted my morning/evening checklist on my most recent Five for Friday post! It is really fun checking off the tasks on my Todoist app, and it helps me ensure nothing slips through the cracks. https://stephanywrites.com/five-for-friday-v-89/

I love your bedframe and quilt selections! One of my goals for the year is to get a new duvet/duvet cover for our bed.
I don’t make monthly goals (just annual ones), but there are a few of my 23 for 2023 goals that I hope to cross off in February!
Stephany
There just feels something very BIG about buying a new quilt/duvet/comforter/etc. Having something comfortable but also stylish is key, because you’re going to be spending a lot of time with that cover! Ha.

OK, weirdness is happening with my iPad. Maybe I need to clean out my cashe. For the longest time, I only saw your post about your Christmas wishlist, and I thought you were taking a break from blogging. Then yesterday I saw new posts! Many of them! Yay! Today, it was back to the Christmas Wishlist post. Weird! I had to hit one of the tabs to get something else.
CONGRATULATIONS on paying off your credit card! As someone who has paid FAR too much in interest over the years, and now pays off my cards every month and uses points, etc., I know how wonderful this feels. For me, the trick to being able to do it was to get a job that paid more money. Go figure.
I’ve never heard of retinoid. And I just saw my dermatologist last month. Hmmm.
Good luck with your goals, I think you are going to CRUSH THEM.
Stephany
Thanks for letting me know about this weird issue, J! I’m hoping it was just a cache issue and not something funky going on with my blog. I’ve gotten some weird 404 errors when I try to access my blog but then I refresh the page, and everything is fine. Not sure what is going on!
And yes, getting a job that paid more money definitely helps with those financial goals. Funny how that works! 😉
Retinoid is supposed to help with fine lines, wrinkles, skin pigmentation, etc. I’ve been using retinol, which offers the same benefits but retinoids are supposed to be much better.

You know what? I’m here to defend Tollhouse cookies. There is a reason this recipe has been the same since the 1940s – it’s a PERFECT recipe. I bring chocolate chip cookies to people’s houses and they are SO EXCITED. I mean, it’s easy, delicious, and why are we all saying “nothin’ fancy” like these cookies aren’t divine. Ahem. I maybe really love cookies.
Stephany
You’re totally right! The Tollhouse cookies are AMAZING. Every time I make them, people get so excited because they are a good ass cookie!

You really love ubereats! I think we probably only get 5 ubereats orders in two years! Ha! But we are not big take out people and I hate how delivery really adds to the cost of the meal. We will get some sort of food delivery for my birthday as I want Indian food. I think the last time we paid for delivery was my last birthday! I will say, I really wanted a coffee on Monday and was too busy to take the time to get one plus it was horribly cold out so I thought about getting starbucks delivered but dang a latte is expensive enough when I buy it in person so I couldn’t bring myself to pay even more. But we are so frugal about eating out!
You did really awesome with your goals! Way to go! I so wish I had moved my blog to WordPress years ago. I feel like it’s probably not worth it at this point, though.
February is going to be a little nutty… My friend Kyria visits this weekend which I am super excited about. Then Phil has a trip to Austin next week for a work offsite… then I go to Texas (Austin and Dallas) the following week for work and then I go to Chicago the week after that… So one of us will be traveling for a good chunk of the month. It’s not the worst month to be gone a lot as Feb can be a cold, dark month. But it’s a lot for a short month! So I don’t really have goals besides trying to keep up with spending 23 minutes outside each day!
Stephany
Soooo many Ubereats orders! I just get very lazy about cooking and it’s just so much easier to get takeout. The convenience of not having to cook outweighs the price for me, but I need to slow my roll. I know I can get better about cooking for myself and not ordering Ubereats every time I don’t feel like cooking. Twice a week is very doable!
You have a very busy February ahead of you! Here’s hoping it goes by fast for you. <3
Nicole MacPherson
Great job by you on all the goals! Fantastic work! I love how satisfying something simple like hanging a clock can be. I do things like that and think, why didn’t I do that sooner?
Stephany
IT WAS SO EASY, NICOLE! Took less than 10 minutes to hang. Why did I let it sit in its box for 4+ weeks?! Argh.
Kim
You did so well in January! I am really excited for you for the news bed, mattress, comforter, and sheets. You are going to feel like a queen when you have it all! It’s so nice your brother is helping.
The knife skills glass sounds fun! I’m the sous chef at home so that’s my territory!
Your sit/stand goal inspired me to book an adjustable height desk for when I am in the office next week! It would be nice to have one at home. Steven has a nice one at his office!
I am looking forward to reading your Feb recap! You are going to save so much money with that Ubereats goal!
Stephany
I cannot WAIT until I have my new bed/bedding in place. It’s going to be lifechanging, especially because my mattress is pretty old at this point and has started sinking. I can’t wait!
Sit/stand desks are amazing! Plus, Ellie likes to use my desk chair and sometimes when I go over to my desk to sit down and work, she just looks at me like, “Guess you should just stand, as this seat is occupied.”
Kate
I also have such a hard time not ordering delivery!
San
I love that you pretty much nailed down your bedroom set. I am still “thinking” about a bedframe LOL (it would be easier if I knew what I wanted).
