JUNE GOALS
1) Schedule a consultation with a dietician. Not complete. I did some research on Zocdoc for dieticians that take my insurance but none of them seemed the right fit for me. I need to do more research, so this will go back on the list for July.
2) Schedule a LASIK consultation. Complete! My consultation is on July 18th and I’m really looking forward to it. (Based on Elisabeth’s experience, I am definitely very apprehensive if they tell me I need PRK rather than traditional LASIK, but knowledge is power, right?)
3) Attend at least one Pride event. Complete! I attended a Pride kick-off event (although we arrived on the early side and nothing much was going on), a Pride immersion experience at a local museum, and the annual St. Pete Pride parade. It was a lovely Pride month for me!
4) Get my skin tags removed. Still not complete. Wah!
5) Use the “Downtime” feature of my phone to stay off apps in the evening. Complete! I have really enjoyed using this feature as it really does force me to stay off my phone in the evenings. I have moved certain apps to be allowed during this time, like my podcast app, Libby (for audiobooks), photos, camera, etc. I’m going to keep this going!
JULY GOALS
1) Schedule a consultation with a dietician. Rollover goal.
2) Take a spending break after my vacation. I’ve been spending money like crazy so I think it’s time to put myself on a bit of a spending break. This means no shopping, no random Amazon orders, and limiting Ubereats orders (1 per week).
3) Figure out my ingrown toenail issues. I’ve been dealing with ingrown toenails for quite a while and have mostly been ignoring them/grimacing in pain every time I get a pedicure. But it’s time to deal with this issue finally. My first step is to try this ingrown toenail treatment that I randomly found during an Amazon search. And if that doesn’t work, I’ll schedule an appointment with a podiatrist.
4) Get my skin tags removed. Rollover goal.
5) Turn off all devices by 8:00 p.m. I have been struggling with my nighttime routine (even though I’m using Downtime on my phone to stay off apps!) But sometimes I’m messing around on my laptop until late. So it’s time to nip it in the bud! The laptop and the TV need to be off by 8:00 so I can start on my nighttime routine and get it done in a reasonable amount of time so I can be in bed at a decent hour.

Looks like a pretty successful June, Stephany! And your goals for July sound excellent. I think my family could use a spending frieze — maybe I’ll try to raise that idea once we’ve gotten through my kiddo’s birthday.
Stephany
It was a pretty good June for me – I’m happy about that.
A spending freeze is so, so needed for me. Eeps!

I am curious to hear what they tell you at your consultation! Steven had PRK in December and his eyes are still adapting to it. From what we hear, people recover from LASIK much faster.
Yay for a wonderful Pride month! And yay for Downtime being successful!
Stephany
I really hope I am a candidate for regular LASIK. I haven’t heard great things about the recovery process of PRK and it makes me nervous!
Elisabeth
I hope you’re a candidate for LASIK!! That said, everyone’s recovery from PRK could be different so I don’t want to scare you off.
I used to have ingrown toenail issues as a kid. It was awful. Ugh. I don’t have any novel suggestions, but appreciate it is both annoying AND painful. Best wishes getting that cleared up asap.
Stephany
I hope so, too! I know PRK just has a much, much different recovery period. I’m grateful that you went through how recovery went for you!
Nicole MacPherson
You had a great June, Stephany!
I put my phone into its charging spot by 8:00 as well, and then I do not pick it back up. Sometimes, it’s even earlier. All my friends know that any texts after 8 will be answered the next day!
I hope you can get LASIK. I had it and as you know, my son just did – and he had like a one day recovery! Oh, to have the recovery of a 19 year old!
Stephany
I am crossing fingers and toes I’m a candidate for regular ole LASIK. I’m doubtful since my prescription is awful and I have really bad astigmatism, but fingers crossed!

I am glad that the downtown is working for you! I used that when I was limiting myself on social media and I used it to stay off my phone from 4:30-6:30 when I wanted to be focusing on the kids, not my phone. It can be really effective!
Stephany
It’s really nice to have the Downtime option to help me stay off my phone in the evenings! There’s something about the reminder when I look at my lock screen that Downtime is engaged/seeing the grayed-out apps that really helps!
Daria
Thank you for being open about your goals. I love reading about other people’s goals. Makes me feel motivated to tackle mine 🙂 Yay for July!
Stephany
It is my pleasure! I love talking about goals, even if some of them are huge failures, haha.
San
3/5 goals is a win! Great month of June! I am especially excited about your Pride experience! 🙂
Stephany
Thank you, dear friend!
Anne
I think that your Pride celebrations should top the list, to be honest. I had no idea you went to an event at a museum – that’s so cool! It’s been amazing to follow along on your journey – so thank you for bringing us along. <3
RE: the skin tags – would it help to make the goal something like, "Make appointment with derm"? I dunno, that's the one that would help me get it done. 🙂 Love that you're doing better with putting down the phone, and hopefully that success will help you with the bedtime routine.
Stephany
Yeah, I know all I need to do is CALL the derm to make the appointment and I’ll consider this complete, but I’m stalling. I think I’m just a little worried about the OOP costs since I’ve maxed out my HSA for the year already thanks to all of the damn derm appointments I had earlier this year! Argh.
