June Goals
Small Steps Toward My Yearly Goals
1) Watch two seasons of a TV show. Complete! I finished season 1 of Suits and season 3 of Bridgerton. I’m all caught up on my goal now!
2) Work through one more section of my “I’m Dead, Now What?” workbook. Totally forgot I made this goal, oops.
3) Research cake decorating classes to find an option that works for me. Forgot about this one, too. Wheeee.
Daily(Ish) Routines
1) Daily movement. (68% successful) This is an increase in 14% from May, so I’m really happy about that!
2) Play with the cats for 10 minutes three times a week. (0% successful) My cats are looking for a new mother.
3) Do psoriasis treatment every day. (74% successful) I took a few days off of doing the treatment right after I got my steroid injections, so that brought my percentage down a bit.
4) Take my meds. (46% successful) Oh, this was bad. Very, very bad. Taking my meds is connected to my morning skincare routine, but I haven’t been doing that routine as regularly as I used to. I think I need to get in the habit of doing this the minute I wake up, no excuses. (The only med that I really need to take is my anxiety pill. I can go a few days without it, and I’ll usually just double-up the dose if I’ve missed a few days, but I know that’s not ideal. Must get better about this!)
5) Check my bank account daily and update my budget spreadsheet. (43% successful) My finances are not great right now and when that happens, I stop checking my bank account out of fear and regret. So, that’s what’s going on with this goal.
Tasks
1) Declutter the top drawer of my dresser. Not complete. I just couldn’t get around to this goal in June.
2) Put my bedroom door back on its hinges. Not complete, sigh.
3) Go to the gym four times a week. Complete! I like the four-times-a-week routine I’ve built. I do a class on Tuesday nights, Wednesday nights, and Sunday mornings. And on Friday mornings, my mom and I do a workout routine my HIIT trainer put together for us.
July Goals
Small Steps Toward My Yearly Goals
1) Watch one season of a TV show. I’ll probably watch season 2 of Suits for this goal! More Harvey Spector in my life, please.
2) Work through one more section of my “I’m Dead, Now What?” workbook. Rollover goal.
3) Research cake decorating classes to find an option that works for me. Rollover goal.
4) Complete a no-spend month. July seems like a good time to check this goal off the list. My finances are not great right now.
5) Read another Agatha Christie mystery. I already have the book picked out (Five Little Pigs).
Daily(Ish) Routines
(I like to change up these routines every 3 months, and July is the time to do that!)
1) Daily movement. I like having this goal, and let’s see if I can get it into the 70s-80s over the next few months.
2) Play with the cats for 10 minutes three times a week. This will remain a goal of mine until I make it happen. I can do this!!
3) Take my meds. This is such a struggle for me, but I’m going to try my best to do better in July! (And beyond.)
4) Drink water every day. This isn’t as big a struggle as it used to be, but there are still times when I’ll go an entire day without any water, so let’s make it a goal to strive for over the next few months.
Tasks
1) Train the cats to eat on a schedule. My cats are grazers and I would be happy for them to continue to be grazers if not for two things: 1) Lila needs to lose a few pounds (EVEN THOUGH SHE IS PERFECT AS SHE IS AND NEVER NEEDS TO CHANGE, FAT CATS 4EVER), and 2) Eloise needs to gain some pounds. I need to be able to better calculate how much food they’re eating every day, and make sure Eloise is eating her “special” cat food to hopefully bring down her calcium numbers. So, I am on a mission to get the cats on a specific eating schedule. I started this yesterday and it went really well, so fingers crossed this doesn’t take too much training.
2) Utilize the “Downtime” feature on my phone from 9 p.m. – 9 a.m. I wish I was someone who didn’t love scrolling and playing games on my phone as much as I do, but alas. In July, I want to set up Downtime on my phone to block me from certain apps from 9 p.m. – 9 a.m. It’s the hours before bed and right when I wake up where I am the most scroll-y, so this will hopefully help me to find other ways to occupy myself (like, say, reading without getting sucked into my phone).
3) Put my bedroom door back on its hinges. Rollover goal.
4) Declutter the top drawer of my dresser. Rollover goal.
5) Sell my spin bike. I moved my spin bike out to my patio and protected it with a cover, but now that it’s been almost a year since I’ve done that, I think it’s safe to say I don’t need to keep my bike around anymore. Hopefully I can sell it pretty quickly and send it off to a new home.
Do you have any goals for July? What app do you spend the most time on?
Sarah
I really like your percentage report– I need to be better about tracking daily habits because something about seeing the percentages is really appealing to me. I think my screen time goals and so,e fitness things would be good for this– thanks for the inspo!!
Stephany
Yay! It’s fun to figure out the percentage numbers at the end of every month. It gives me a boost!

The two apps I spend the most time on are Spotify and Duolingo, so I feel good about that. I like my podcasts and I like my little language “quests.” My son and I do it together – he is learning Japanese – so it’s fun.
I have a goal in July to finish a detailed outline of the novel in preparation for the second draft. Other than that, we have a lot of social things – houseguests, visits, parties, etc – so it’s going to be a nice socially busy month. We are also going to start watching season 3 of The Bear!
Stephany
I love that you spend so much time on Duolingo. I’m still doing Duo but only do one lesson a day. The quests were stressing me out, haha.
That’s a FANTASTIC goal! You’ve got this, friend!
Jenny
Congratulations on achieving a VERY big goal- workout out 4x a week. For the cat ones- when my sister and BIL were here they were like “Where are all your cat toys?” Um… I managed to dig out a couple and they played with the cats, who were SO happy. But I’m like you- I don’t do it (can’t they just play with each other???) I also have to do SOMETHING about Charlotte’s weight, although like Lila she is PERFECT AS SHE IS- the rest of my family doesn’t agree with me and wants to put her on a diet (no! sob!) Maybe I should make it a monthly goal to play with the cats and Charlotte will start to slim down naturally? Ha… dream on.
I like how you say you don’t check your bank account out of fear and regret. Ha ha… right there with you.
Stephany
The girls play with each other and have plenty of cat toys lying around, but I know they just *love* when I get out the teaser wands or laser. I’m just so lazy about doing it!
NGS
Poor, poor Zelda is with E and L about her humans not playing with her very much. Neglected cats from coast to coast!
Reddit is hands-down the app I use the most. I should delete it, but then I know another app would replace it.
Stephany
Reddit! Oh, that’s so interesting. I typically only go on Reddit during my lunch breaks, haha. It’s fun to peruse. What are your favorite Reddit forums?

The daily movement improvement is awesome! Way to go! For meds, I think there is an ap on the apple watch for medications. You could try that? Or you could set an alarm for a time of day to make sure you don’t miss taking your meds? I am diligent about taking mine since things can really go off the rails for me if I miss a dose, especially lately w/ how crappy my RA has been!
We have an early market close today but I’ll be here for a full day since Phil has a lot of work to do. So if I have downtime this afternoon, I want to try to finish my 2023 photobook!!
Stephany
Oh! I am going to try the Medications app on Apple Watch. I tried setting an alarm and I would just silence it without taking my meds, lol. I have been a lot better in July than recently, so there’s that at least.
GREAT JOB ON FINISHING THE PHOTOBOOK!
San
Makes me sad that hear your didn’t stick with spinning (but only because I love it so much…. it’s MUCH BETTER for you if you find something that you can stick with and in this case ,the spin bike can go!). Love that you’re enjoying the gym classes so much. How’s your mom doing with them?
Stephany
My mom is enjoying them a lot as well! It’s fun to go together and see our progress. She’s also working with one of the trainers once a week. 🙂 Thanks for asking!
Daria
Workout 4 times a week? That’s impressive! I love the daily movement idea for myself, too.
Goals for July… I just want to read, rest, write, and repeat.
Apps…Apple podcast app, Spotify and Kindle.
Stephany
Read, rest, write, repeat – that sounds SO lovely! I really hope that’s what you get to do in July!

I just looked and I spend most of my phone time reading blogs via Feedly or Safari. I’ve tried putting screentime limits but then I just blow right through them – I haven’t figured out yet what works for me for limiting idle scrolling. I feel like I like having a steady stream of information input, but I should spend more time on the quality stuff- blogs of kind people- than the bad kind- blogs/forums with toxic commenters.
I’m super interested in your “no-spend” month! I’ve thought about doing this but never been able to take the plunge.
Stephany
I blow through my screentime limits, too! Every time I set them, I just give zero fucks and ask for more time. It defeats the purpose, lol. The most rebellious I am is when I get that damn alert from Apple.
