April Goals
Small Steps Towards My Yearly Goals
1) Hang up 3 more prints for my living room gallery wall. Not complete. It was on my to-do list every week and kept being the task I never got around to.
2) Start researching rewards credit cards: make a spreadsheet to compare at least 5 cards. Complete! The goal here was the make the spreadsheet and that’s what I did.
3) Watch two seasons of a TV show. Not complete. I finally finished Mr. and Mrs. Smith last night, so at least I’m not three seasons behind coming into May, ha.
4) Fill out the first section of the “I’m Dead, Now What?” book. Complete! It was a pretty easy task since it only involved filling out some personal info.
5) Clean up my categories/tags. Not complete, but I did spend time every week working toward this goal. Hopefully I can finish this up in May!
Daily(ish) Routines
1) Daily movement. (86% successful) I’m very happy with my daily movement goal. I’ve been doing two gym workouts per week, 1-2 walks outside per week, a stretching workout, and sometimes a quick arm strength-training workout.
2) Play with the cats for 10 minutes. (33%) Ohh, this was a struggle. I even brought down the goal to doing this three times per week (because doing it daily was a very silly idea for me!) My poor cats.
3) Do psoriasis treatment every day. (71%) I would have liked to be a lot more successful with this goal in April, but it is what it is. Treatment includes medicated shampoo and two different types of steroid oils (one of the steroids helps with dry skin, the other with itchiness).
4) Take my meds. (73%) Sigh.
5) Go to bed by 10:30 p.m. (0%) I was doing so bad with this goal that I finally accepted my fate that getting to bed at 10:30 isn’t something I care enough to do. I’d rather go to bed at 11-11:30 and wake up a little later in the morning. In the middle of the month, I changed this goal to checking my bank account every day and I was 71% successful with that goal.
TASKS
1) Install the TubShroom. Complete! I installed it yesterday, so nothing like waiting until the last possible minute, but I got it done. Yay!
2) Declutter my “Deal With It Later” basket. Complete! I did this early in the month and it felt good to get everything in the basket to its proper location.
3) Get a new nose piercing. Not complete. Womp, womp. I didn’t have time this month to go to the piercing place for a custom hoop, so I ordered some nose rings from Amazon but could not get the hoop into my nose for the life of me. Wah!
4) Go to the gym twice a week. Complete! We took lots of fun classes this month: HIIT, some strength classes, hot yoga, etc.
5) Put my bedroom door back on its hinges. Not complete. Another task that just kept falling off the to-do list.
May Goals
Small Steps Towards My Yearly Goals
1) Hang up the rest of the prints I have for my living room gallery wall. Rollover goal.
2) Start researching rewards credit cards: add at least 5 cards to my spreadsheet to compare. Spreadsheet is made and has one credit card on the list, and I want to add a few more in May to continue my research project.
3) Watch two seasons of a TV show. Maybe I’ll finally do this in May? I want to watch Apples Never Fall and maybe Lessons in Chemistry.
4) Read another Agatha Christie novel. I’m not sure which one I’ll read next – maybe I’ll switch over to Miss Marple this time? Your recommendations are encouraged!
5) Clean up my categories/tags. Rollover goal.
Daily(ish) Routines
1) Daily movement. The goal for May is to increase my percentage, maybe into the 90s?
2) Play with the cats for 10 minutes three times per week. Listen, if I can do this even 50% of the time in May, I’ll be a happy girl.
3) Do psoriasis treatment every day. Scalp psoriasis continues to be an annoyance of my life, so I must complete my daily treatments. They are helping!
4) Take my meds. Okay, Steph, let’s make it into the 80s for successful attempts in May. You got this!
5) Check my bank account daily and update my budget spreadsheet. This is a very doable, very easy goal for me when I remember to do it.
TASKS
1) Take Gladys for her biyearly check-up. Gladys, my car, gets a check-up every six months, and I’ve already scheduled this for the last week of May when I have a day off before I leave for New Orleans. Hopefully all she needs are some fresh fluids and a tire rotation, but we shall see!
2) Declutter and reorganize my dresser drawers. I mentioned in a Five for Friday post that my dresser drawers needed to be decluttered and I needed to invest in some drawer organization, so May is the month I plan to do that!
3) Get a new nose piercing. Rollover goal.
4) Go to the gym three times a week. I want to continue doing two classes per week and add in one morning of cardio using the machines at the gym.
5) Put my bedroom door back on its hinges. Rollover goal.
Do you have any goals for May?

I’m loving your *Declutter my “Deal With It Later” basket* because I’m charmed by the fact you have a “Deal With It Later” basket to begin with. I studied AC’s Miss Marple books in college. And here’s the thing I don’t really remember any one be better or worse. That may be because my brain is now filled with adult things of great import OR it might be because they all kind of melded together in my mind. I look forward to learning which one you read– and what you think of it
Stephany
HAHA – I love that your charmed by my messy basket! Sometimes it’s just easier to throw it in that basket and figure out what I’m going to do with it at a different time. Once it gets full, I have to empty it out but it’s very helpful for my brain/organization.
Bri
Oh man I thought you’d ace the meds one with my tip of setting an alarm! Maybe this month!
Stephany
Here’s the thing: I set the alarm. The alarm goes off every evening. But I just turn it off without taking my meds. I’m a friggin mess, lol.
Elisabeth
I just told my husband yesterday how much I LOVE our Tubshroom. I hope you love it as much as I do. It’s kinda gross to clean it out but a million times better than trying to clean it out of a drain!
Stephany
I love your devotion to your Tubshroom. <3

I need to hear more about this piercing. So, is it hard to go from a straight one to a hoop? How do they close in the back? Is it like an earring? I had a tongue ring and it was a barbell and it screwed on. I have no knowledge of how a nose ring stays in or on!
Stephany
I talked about the nose ring on this post: https://stephanywrites.com/five-for-friday-v-100/
It has an L-shaped backing, so it’s not straight. It doesn’t close or have any type of screw – it just stays in because it’s shaped like an L, I guess!
Daria
That episode with Lynn was awesome. I took the 180 question quiz after the episode and found out… I am an 8 and they seem to be a bit of…. a***les? LOL Is that because I’m Russian? LOL Regardless you and Bri have great chemistry.
Also stealing (with your permission) the set up for goals: small steps toward yearly goals, daily(ish) routines, and tasks.
For me:
1. Sign up for dang yoga already (been wanting since January)
2. Daily(ish) meditation and reading
3. Tasks: declutter the attic (it’s not that bad but can use a fresh eye)
Stephany
Daria! Enneagram 8s are not assholes – they are wonderful! They are decisive and confident and assertive. They are fiercely protective of their people. I admire Enneagram 8s so much! (Alsoooo… if you ever wanted to be on a podcast, let me know because we’d love to talk to you about your personality! We can guide you through the enneagram part; you don’t have to be an expert on enneagram 8s.)
Yes, steal away! I love this!
Daria
Id love to be part of your podcast but fair warning- I’ve never recorded a podcast and just a thought makes me feel really insecure lol but- I’d love to do it!
Stephany
Yay! All of the guests we’ve had on have never done a podcast either, so you’ll be in good company. We’ll make sure you’re comfortable and feel good! I’ll reach out when we figure out our schedule for the second half of the year!
Jenny
Great job on the movement goal!!! Your’e doing REALLY well. I had to laugh at “Go to bed at 10:30 pm- 0%.” I can totally relate- I just cannot get myself to go to bed early enough. Or, I’m getting in bed at a good time- but then I read for a while and I don’t want to stop. That’s an ongoing rollover goal for me.
My main goal for May is to get through the month, and my race at the end of it, without breaking any parts of my body. Fingers crossed!
(I’ll try to remember the titles of my favorite Miss Marple books and get back to you. There are definitely some that stand out to me, I just have to match the plots to titles.)
Stephany
It’s so hard to hit that 10:30 bedtime – I don’t know why! I used to be so good about my bedtime.
Your race is so close – here’s to finishing strong and with all body parts unbroken. 🙂
Diane
My favorite Miss Marple are 4:40 from Paddington and A Murder is Announced. I think the latter is the more satisfying one, but the former was the first Agatha Christie that I ever read, so it’s pretty dear to my heart too, and the ending was a bit out of left field for me. I liked Betram’s Hotel okay, but it was more intrigue than murder mystery.
I like how you breakdown the credit card goal into mini steps. I think that’s the way to go for a lot of things.
Stephany
Thank you for the recs! I think I’ll try A Murder is Announced – I like a satisfying mystery!
Lisa’s Yarns
Good for you for figuring out that going to bed at 10:30 wasn’t the right goal for you. If you have the flexibility to get up a bit later so you can go to bed a bit later that makes total sense!
May is not too bad of a month for us. We have a date night to celebrate our anniversary. I am coming into the month very tired and depleted so I don’t really have any other goals besides refilling my cup.
Stephany
I really hope you can refill your cup in May and don’t have to travel as much. You had a really rough April and deserve a break!
San
Oh, what happened to your piercing? Did you not wear one for a while and did the hole really close up? I hope you can get it re-done!
Congrats on your daily movement goal. That’s really great!
The last few weeks have been so busy for me with work and travel that I am hoping to just find a regular routine again in May.
Tobia | craftaliciousme
Yeah for achieving goals. As you may know by now I strongly believe any percentage towards a goal is a step in the right direction so yeah to you.
I need to start thinking about my picture wall. Maybe I finally get to it this weekend. It’s a holiday today so more or less a four day weekend… even though we plan on doing taxes tomorrow. No fun.
Anne
You changed your theme! I love it! (Still…catching…up…)
You just needed a new nose ring/post/thing to go in the hole, right? Not a new *piercing*? I think? (San’s comment made me wonder…)
Also, you are rocking your movement goal. And baby steps on others count – now you have the spreadsheet and can populate it with the information you need about each card. No sense doing step 3 before step 1. 😉
I can’t help you with your bedtime goal… since I’m long asleep by 10:30. 🙂 But, one thing on the psoriasis meds – steroids work best with consistent use. So, if you use them 90% of the time, your symptoms *should* be so much better all the time. I don’t know if that will help you use them consistently, but just fyi.
