Three posts about goals in three days. I promise this is the last of the for a long while! Today, I wanted to post my quarterly goals for Q1 of 2024. I’ve kept the main categories that I used for my yearly goals, and have three goals for each one. Some of them relate to my yearly goals and some do not. It’ll keep things fun and interesting, I think!
HOME
1) Buy a new area rug for my living room. I have a few area rugs saved on Wayfair, so I just need to measure my living room to make sure I’m getting the correct size and push that purchase button. I will be so happy to replace my current rug. It’s faded so much and is a bit threadbare.
2) Declutter my dresser and buy drawer organizers to keep everything tidy. I’m ready to have a more organized dresser. Right now, I tend to just shove things in a drawer and close it quickly. But then that becomes a nightmare if I’m searching for a specific item. I want to take everything out and declutter the dresser, and then organize everything nicely using drawer organizers.
3) Itemize everything in my bedroom. One of my yearly goals is to itemize everything in my home, and I’m going to start with my bedroom.
ADULTING
1) Set up my new primary email address and link it to my current Gmail account. Change the primary email address of all household accounts. Ughhhh this is such a boring goal. But it must be done.
2) Set up my budget and update it every two days. Again, adulting sucks.
3) Do a Goodwill dropoff. I have two bags of stuff and a handful of items that need to be out of my apartment, so to Goodwill they will go!
HEALTH
1) Start using time blocking for my daily routines. I’m going to experiment with some time management techniques to figure out which one works best for me. In Q1, I’m going to attempt time blocking (scheduling each hour of the day for specific tasks). If it works, great! If not, I’ll try something else in Q2.
2) Use a posture app to improve my posture. There are a few apps that will send you gentle reminders throughout the day to sit up straight, and I’m hoping that will help me gradually improve my posture. I probably also need to look into how to ensure my desk/office chair are set up properly so I can maintain good posture, so that’s another goal for Q1.
3) Log my food for a month. I don’t want to do this, but I know I need to do it. My dietician has an app I can use where I don’t have to see the calorie count of foods (a trigger for me), but we’ll be able to review it and see what areas can be improved. I’m not sure I’ll continue a food journal after one month; it all depends if I feel it’s useful to my weight loss journey.
HOBBIES
1) Read The Shell Seekers by Rosamunde Pilcher. This is the first 500+ page book I’ll be reading for my goal. The paperback I have is 632 pages so it’ll be a journey for me.
2) Go to at least two Silent Book Club Meetings. It’s a lot harder to make it to SBC meetings during football season since they meet on Sunday afternoons, but they also do Thursday evening meetings once a month that I can usually make it to. I’m hoping to get back to going at least monthly, so hopefully I can surpass this goal!
3) Hang up my floating bookshelves in my reading nook. I meant to do this in December and I did not get around to it. I need to get my beautiful Anne of Green Gables collection displayed!
FUN
1) Watch one of these movies from 1987: Good Morning Vietnam; Planes, Trains, and Automobiles; Can’t Buy Me Love; Three Men and a Baby; or Dirty Dancing. Help me choose! I’m leaning towards Dirty Dancing, but I can be convinced to try another one of the movies on my list.
2) Watch one season of Suits and two seasons of New Girl. I might be setting myself up for failure, but maybe not? I can do this!
3) Get my nose repierced. I’m hoping I can wear a stud and my CPAP mask won’t bother it too much. That’s the goal.
What’s something you’d like to do in January?
Amanda Perrine
If you’ve never seen Dirty Dancing that is 100% what you should watch.
Stephany
Yessss! I think that’s the one I’ll do. Most everyone has recommended it!

These look like great goals! Did you find a new dietician, or have a conversation with the same one about what you want to change going forward? I remember you were considering ‘breaking up’, but maybe I missed the outcome.
Regarding the movies, I have a soft spot in my heart for Planes, Trains, and Automobiles, it is the first movie Ted and I saw together in a theater. (Our first movie we saw together was It’s a Wonderful Life, which was on TV) Can’t Buy Me Love is definitely cute. I am probably the only person on Earth who really disliked Dirty Dancing. I have no opinion on Good Morning Vietnam.

I am going to have a conversation with my dietician during our next appointment. I think I just need to be clear what I need NOW and we’ll see if we’re still a good fit. This was a suggestion from Tobia, which I really liked – just tell her everything I said in my post (maybe toned down a bit, lol). So we’ll see how it goes!
Most people are recommending Dirty Dancing – I’ll have to see if I love it or not. What did you dislike about it?

Oh you know I love a good goals post.
Cheering you on.
I hate adulting goals but once crossed of it feels like a major achievement. I do have some I should be tackling.
I have fond memories of Good morning Vietnam and of course Dirty Dancing. So both I can recommend.
Stephany
Adulting is the WORST. But it must be done sometimes.
Another vote for Dirty Dancing – that looks like the winner. 🙂
Lisa's Yarns
We just watched Planes, Trains and Automobiles in December. It is really great. But I would say Dirty Dancing is a gem so you for sure should watch that! I watched that so so so so so many times as a child. My parents were able to “dub” out the “naughty parts” that weren’t appropriate for tween Lisa. Lol.
I had to get a new email address when I changed names when I got married and the process overall was really not too bad. I think it’s best to make keep your stephanywrites as your primary email box and then have your new email address go into that stephanywrites email box. I think I tried to do the oppposite and it was a disaster but that was over 7 years ago so I can’t remember what the problem was. But my maiden name email is my primary gmail account for a reason and my married name emails go into that same box.
Stephany
Oh, the dubbing! That reminds me how my dad would fast forward through some of the racier parts of Tommy Boy when we watched it, haha.
My mom just changed her email address last year and I don’t know if it was the process of moving from a yahoo account to a gmail account, but it was CRAZY. There were so many hoops she had to jump through for some of her accounts. I’m hoping the process won’t be as stressful for me.

Dirty Dancing was a very formative movie for me! I distinctly remember watching it when I was…12 I think? It’s a really nuanced movie with a lot of interesting messages, particularly those that involve women’s health and our right to choose. Who knew it would be a hot topic in 2025.
Can’t Buy Me Love is a movie I love too – I have seen all of those movies actually but I saw that one several times in the theatre. McDreamy before he was McDreamy! I remember it SO clearly, the party scene, the dancing, I remember it all so well.
Stephany
Dirty Dancing is far and away the favorite, so I think that’s the one I’m going to watch. I’m excited!
Michelle G.
Dirty Dancing is one of my favorite movies. I think it still stands up after all this time. I enjoyed Suits too – it was before Meghan Markle became “royalty”! I do remember that she had some racy scenes!
Stephany
It’s so fun seeing Meghan Markle on Suits! She is such a stunning woman. I can barely watch her scenes because I’m so gaga over her, haha.

Great goals, all— I loved your nose piercing— I hope it works with the machine!
Stephany
I miss my nose piercing SO much!
Jenny
Sounds like Dirty Dancing is the winner! I saw it a loooooong time ago- possibly when it first came out? I don’t actually remember much about it.
I like how your goals are a combination of self improvement/fun stuff. And, no- you can’t miss any football now! I love playoff season, even when my teams aren’t in it. But Silent Book Club does sound fun- I hope you can make it work.
