Time I woke up: 6:00 a.m.
First thing I did upon waking: I used the bathroom and then immediately put on my workout clothes, queued up a spin class with Cody Rigsby, and worked out!
Today’s weather: Incredible. The high was 83 but it never got above 75. It was sunny and beautiful and breezy. If only the weather was like this all the time!
Something I spent money on today: Dinner with Bri! We had a lovely lady date this evening, going to a new-ish restaurant in downtown St. Pete. The restaurant was all decked out to look like a 1920s speakeasy and even had this amazing gold glitter accent wall. The food was good, but having a few hours to just catch up on Bri’s life was better.
An out-of-the-ordinary thing that happened today: I had a team meeting with my brand-new team at work. Nothing crazy has happened, don’t worry. We just reshuffled which content writers are reporting to the different content team managers, so now I have a whole new slew of direct reports. It was exciting to talk to them, tell them who I am, and explain my management style. I’m planning to meet with each of them (I have 6 new direct reports) throughout the rest of this week and next.
Last thing I read (not on the Internet): In a New York Minute by Kate Spencer (loving this sweet romance novel so much!)
Last thing I read (on the Internet): Do Instagram statuses count?
Last text I sent: “I’m glad we can both be honest about where we are mentally/emotionally!”
Last text I received: A friend sent a screenshot of a Facebook status of a former coworker to our group chat. It was… wild.
Last website I visited: Engie’s blog, since I knew she had added some different prompts to this Snapshot series and wanted to see what they were.
Last show I watched: The reunion show for Love Is Blind, season 4.
Last podcast I listened to: Monday’s episode of Pod Save America.
Last thing I said: “I love this!” Said while loosely holding Lila’s tail in my hand. She kept twitching it against my arm and tickling me!
Last thing I ate: A York peppermint patty.
What I was doing an hour ago: I was Facetiming with my mom.
What I will be doing an hour from now: Hopefully, I’ll be all snuggled up in bed, reading.
Current whereabouts of other members of my household: The cats are playing with each other in the living room. They keep hiding from each other and then pouncing when one cat gets close. It’s as adorable as you think it is.
One thing I crossed off my to-do list today: Nothing! Although I did fill up my washer with all of the washcloths and towels that need to be washed. I just forgot to start the washer. Womp.

What’s the first thing you did when you woke up this morning?
Nicole MacPherson
Well, I just woke up half an hour ago! It’s 4:48 am currently. I am just about to do some yoga and then Peloton – maybe I’ll do a Cody ride this morning! I think I have an 80s or 90s ride bookmarked. That seems fun.
I love York peppermint patties and haven’t had one forever! Yum.
I LOVED In A New York Minute. Do you listen to the Forever 35 pod?
Oh! I just remembered I have your podcast queued up – I’ll give it a listen today!
Love these posts, Steph! They are always a fun peek.
Stephany
I do not listen to Forever 35, but I hear about it all the time. I need to give it a listen! In a New York Minute was so cute! I really loved it.
I almost solely do Cody rides these days. He just always puts me in a good mood!
NGS
Oh, your kitties are PLAYING together. That sounds amazing. I have dreams about Hannah and Zelda playing together, but Hannah has no chill and always gets too excited.
I have a confession to make: I think the combination of chocolate and mint is repulsive. York patties are probably my least favorite food and I also think Thin Mints are kind of gross. My husband currently has some GF mint Oreos and I find the smell to be very unpleasant. I LOVE that some people enjoy this snack combo, but it is definitely not for me!
Stephany
They do play together! Sometimes they fight and I have to say, “Girls!” in a very firm voice, haha. But they mostly play nicely together.
I think the mint/chocolate combo is a love-it-or-hate-it sort of thing! I know a lot of people who don’t like that combo! It just means more York peppermint patties and Thin Mints for me!
Kim
Aww! I love that you got to have that date with Bri! And we need to hear more about both of these texts! They sound interesting – one so mature and one so juicy!
The first thing I did this am was come downstairs and make sure Ned was not eating all the dry food (he was).
Stephany
The first one was to the woman I’m dating (I think we were deciding if we were going to see each other last week, and ultimately decided against it). The other one was a really silly Facebook status from a former coworker. She filled out one of those Facebook surveys and the answers were wild, haha.

Your French braids look good! It sounds like your text messages are both very deep; I am guessing the status is that they transitioned genders; actually I don’t know if that is something you can put as a status since it has been a while since I have been on FB, but that would definitely be wild if you did not expect it!
The first thing I did this morning and I do every morning is get up, start coffee, use the bathroom, brush my teeth and put in my contacts. If I don’t do this (which is pretty much never) I don’t feel like morning is complete. Once I had someone staying at my house and they distracted me from my routine and I forgot to put on my contacts! We went for breakfast and I kept thinking that I felt kind of off, and I later realized it was because things were not as clear as they usually are!
Stephany
I am working on learning how to French braid and I think I’m finally getting the hang of it!
Oh, the former coworker’s Facebook status was not that deep at all! And I wouldn’t have been so blase about something like that – that’s an amazing thing to do! They had just filled out a silly Facebook survey and the answers were very funny to us.
Suzanne
Sounds like a great day! SIX direct reports! That sounds like a lot. How are you enjoying managing a team?
The first thing I did this morning was stretch my feet while playing Wordle, the crossword Mini, and Spelling Bee, and then reading today’s first Ask a Manager post. I have to keep my mind entertained while I am stretching my feet!
Stephany
I really enjoy it! And this will be a very new challenge for me, as these direct reports will require a bit more managing than my former team as they were all pretty senior and didn’t require too much direction. I do enjoy helping people, though!
I have not been stretching out my feet and I need to do it! I like the idea of doing while doing Wordle and other phone games. That’s a good idea!

Oh work reshuffles. I am very familiar with those… I feel like I’m on a hamster wheel of changes at my company but ours are often related to layoffs/downsizing/cost cutting. I’ve had the same manager since 2019, though, so at least I’ve had some consistency there!
The first thing I did this morning besides going to the bathroom was go downstairs to give Paul his breakfast. And then I started making the big batch of oatmeal that I make once/week. I had an alarm set for 6:10 as I don’t have to be in the office today but Paul woke me up which was fine as it was just after 6.
Stephany
A Paul alarm! That’s a nice alarm, especially since it wasn’t too far off when your actual alarm would have woken you up!
We have definitely had our fair share of work reshuffling lately. Thankfully, our content department has stayed pretty even but other departments have seen some reshuffling, which I’m sure is unsettling!
Anne
I love these posts, if only to remind myself of how different our lives are. (Not “our” as in you and me, specifically, but “our” in the general sense that we all lead unique lives with unique structures and interactions and… yeah, it’s just fascinating. To me, at least. :))
And, wow, that was a long parenthetical. Your dates with friends sound wonderful – I do appreciate how you feed your relationships. They are clearly so important to you – and it shows!
I am still so eager to hear about your dates, as I hope they are continuing and that you are enjoying time spent with another. <3
San
These posts are always fun – like a little glimpse into your day. It sounds like your work is going really well – I love that you’re thriving in your (not so) new position!
I’d love a peppermint patty just about now 🙂
First thing I did today after waking up: morning yoga flow with Anna Greenberg 🙂
