The high of my week was having a fun afternoon with my mom on Sunday. We went out for lunch and then popped into Homegoods and Target for a little bit of shopping. It was a really nice time!
The low of my week was having anxiety episodes. I started my new regimen of 30mg of Lexapro over the weekend, but of course, it’s going to take some time for my body to adjust. My mind, meanwhile, wants things to be okay right now, and since I’m not, my anxiety has been thrown into hyperdrive. I’ve also started taking melatonin again at night because I’ve been having a lot of trouble sleeping and tossing and turning when I do fall asleep. This has helped a lot! I’m trying to be patient with myself and knowing I have a psychiatrist who is dedicated to helping me feel better has helped a lot while I struggle through anxious days and nights.
One nagging task I marked off my to-do list this week was hanging my wall clock! I received this beautiful wall clock for Christmas and it has been sitting in its packaging since then, eeks. It was one of those tasks that I thought was going to be really complicated and the clock was going to be really hard to hang, but it took me less than 10 minutes! And now I have a beautiful clock in my apartment. (Unfortunately, I just realized it’s about 4 minutes slow, which is going to aggravate me, so my new nagging task is to take the clock off the wall to fix the time.)
I’m currently reading only one book right now, which is The Fine Print by Lauren Asher. It’s a contemporary romance that Meredith of Currently Reading raved about, and since she is very picky about her romances, I knew I had to pick it up. I’m not very far into the novel, so I can’t give an opinion just yet. In other reading news, I was struggling through The Idea of You by Robinne Lee. This book has gotten phenomenal reviews from so many friends, but I was so stressed out about the romance! (It’s about a 39-year-old woman who starts dating a 20-year-old member of a boy band.) I was reading maybe 20 pages a day of the book but was never excited to pick it up, so I finally decided to abandon it yesterday. I feel very relieved, which is a good sign!
A podcast episode I enjoyed was Sasheer Was Scared to Leave Nicole Stranded in the Middle of the Ocean on Best Friends with Nicole Byer and Sasheer Zamata. In this episode, Nicole and Sasheer recap their trip to the Bahamas and I need them to write a script based on their vacation because this is the movie we need in the world. It started with an Airbnb house from hell and ended with Nicole’s jet ski running out of gas while they were in the middle of the ocean. And that’s only part of their insane adventure! They still have 3.5 days to recap for us! Please do yourself a favor and listen to this crazy story (and then listen to part 2 when it drops next week). It’s hilarious and awful and amazing!
The best money I spent this week was $6 on three salad plates. I like using smaller plates for snacks and the like, but for way too long, I have only had ONE salad plate. One! I don’t know if I only bought one to begin with, or if I bought two and misplaced the other one. But it was a real annoyance because if I used the plate earlier in the day, I would have to wash it to use it later on. I finally decided to just buy more plates. They are these cheap, white salad plates from Target, nothing fancy, and I was just so delighted by myself when I bought them.
My plans this weekend include nothing much! My Friday night and Saturday are free (I may wind up doing a karaoke room with some friends, but I’m still debating if I want to do that, ha). Sunday, I have a writing date with Mikaela in the morning and playoff football in the late afternoon. So sad that there are only 3 football games left this season! Wah.
What are your weekend plans?

The salad plates thing makes me smile, because I do this too — sometimes the best solution is just to shell out a few bucks! I did this recently with little serving dishes. I have these dishes that I use ALL the time when we have guests — I put all sorts of things in them, from taco toppings to mixed nuts to dips. But I am always counting them out and planning carefully what to use them for so I don’t run out (since I only have four), and finally I just… bought more! Life changing. Well, maybe not LIFE changing, but very useful!
Your clock looks great!
The ramped up anxiety sucks, especially if it’s accompanied by insomnia, which will of course exacerbate the anxiety — yay, brains for being so on top of things! “Let’s prioritize the anxiety above all else!” No thank you! I hope that your body adjusts to the new medication dosage soon and this phase is soon in the past.

Isn’t it crazy how it’s such a simple change, one that doesn’t even cost a lot of money, but we still resist? I’m glad you got more serving dishes! A simple change that will make things so much easier for you!
The anxiety has gotten MUCH better in recent weeks. What a relief!

The salad plates! I love it when a simple/inexpensive solution can fix a nagging problem. When my husband and I first moved in together before we were married, we combined all of our kitchen stuff and still only had one spoon. It was a constant “where is the spoon? is the spoon clean??” and, in retrospect, we should have just bought some cheap spoons. Ha!
Here’s to a quiet weekend! I hope it’s amazing.
Stephany
It’s crazy how a simple change like MORE SALAD PLATES can make such an immediate impact on my happiness, haha.

I have never listened to that podcast but I just might because WOW that sounds crazy!!!
I hope your body adjusts to the new dosage SOON.

You’ll have to let me know if you listen to the podcast and what you think!

So sorry to hear about your anxiety episodes. But glad you have someone to help you. I also am taking melatonin for sleepless nights but haven’t in a while and thinking about it I barely sleep 6 hours. Of course in-between I am wide awake for hours. So I should be more consistent with melatonin. Do you see a huge effect? And how much do you take? I feel like makes it slightly better (not waking up 9 times but maybe only 3 times) but I wished I could jus sleep through entirely.
The wall clock is cute. Isn’t it funny that we fret about tasks for days/weeks/years and then it takes a few minutes to do them. Classic. Been there done that.
Stephany
I take 10mg of melatonin nightly, and it makes a HUGE difference for me. My problem is that my mind keeps me awake, so melatonin just helps to relax my brain enough to let me fall asleep.

I am sorry to hear about your anxiety episodes! That is so frustrating. I hope the change in the dose makes a difference soon. I hate the waiting period for meds to kick in and make a difference. 🙁
I was in the minority and did not like The Idea of You. I did not find the age difference believable. I want nothing to do with a young 20yo guy no matter how mature he is. And some of the decisions she made were just ridiculous. You probably didn’t get to the boat part but if you did, that is the part where I wanted to throw the book across the room. I gave it 2 stars, I think, but could have given it 1 honestly!
Stephany
I had seen your 2-star review before I started reading The Idea of You! I should have texted you when I decided to abandon it so we could have complained about it, haha. I didn’t feel like the romance was very believable, either, and the way she kept lying to her daughter was so icky to me. I’m glad I abandoned it!

I am sorry that you were struggling with anxiety this week… it’s the worst to “wait” for the meds to kick in. I am hoping that you’re on the right path though. And yay for an afternoon with your mom (and Home Goods) 🙂
The clock looks great. I’d love to get a big clock for our apartment.
I didn’t have much planned for the weekend other than catching up on blogs (here I am :)), doing some blog maintenance work on my own blog and getting some longer runs in.
Stephany
I’ve been wanting a big wall clock for a long time, and it makes me so happy every time I see it! 🙂
Kim
Did you do karaoke?! I want to try it!
I am sorry you are struggling with anxiety now! I hope the new dosage does its job soon. I am so glad to hear the melatonin is helping!
Good for you for abandoning that book! Life is too short! LOL.
I didn’t think I had weekend plans but we ended up being pretty busy with work and house stuff.
Stephany
I didn’t! I really do want to do it sometime, but my social anxiety kicked in, haha. It would have been a big group and I chickened out, lol.
