The high of my week was having dinner with my cousin and her family on Monday. We haven’t gotten together for dinner since November! It was so nice to see them and catch up about life.
The low of my week was getting my Ubereats order canceled. Oh, I was so excited about this order and so very disappointed when I got the alert on the app that the delivery driver could no longer deliver my order, so it was canceled. NOOOOOO! I ended up having popcorn for dinner. What a disappointment!
One nagging task I marked off my to-do list was mopping my floors. Why is this task the one I dread the most? There is just something about the process of getting everything off the floors, letting my robot vacuum zip around my apartment for an hour, and then going back to mop the floors and let things dry before putting everything back in place that drives me crazy. But then, my floors look SO GOOD when they have been freshly mopped and I promise myself I will not let another month lapse between moppings (LIES). My mom got so tired of mopping that she bought a robot mopper. I am very tempted to do the same.
I’m currently reading three books! On audio, I’m listening to The Girl Who Smiled Beads by Clemantine Wamariya. My romance book right now is After Hours on Milagro Street by Angelina M. Lopez and I also just started Our Missing Hearts by Celeste Ng yesterday.
A podcast episode I enjoyed was Favored or Forsaken: Marriage on The Bible Binge. I felt so seen and validated in this conversation between Jamie, Erin, and Evan. Jamie and Evan are part of the “never-married” group while Erin has been married for 17 years. Marriage and singleness can be a fraught topic when it comes to the church setting (most churches don’t really know what to do with single adults over the age of 25, honestly), and I really loved the discussion they had. Marriage isn’t for everyone, and it’s time we come to terms with that. (My favorite part of this conversation is when Jamie was talking about how married people look at single people and say, “Oh, but you’re such a catch! It’s such a shame you’re not married.” And Jamie said that she often looks at married people and thinks, “Oh, but you’re such a catch! It’s a shame you got married.” HA.)
An Internet find I loved was this hilarious Reel a woman did about her “rules” for her funeral, using Barbies. I laugh every time I watch it!
The best money I spent this week was $15 on a key holder shelf. This is part of one of my 2023 goals to upgrade my entryway wall with a new shelf/key holder and mirror. I was originally planning on buying a different key holder shelf that was $30 from Target but it’s out of stock and I’m not sure when it will be in stock. So I’m taking a chance on this option from Amazon. I hope it works out!
My plans this weekend include all of the things! Tonight is book club. We’re having a pajama/nacho party at a friend’s house, and I am very much looking forward to it! Tomorrow, I am recording podcast episodes with Bri and also meeting up with Mikaela for a writing date. And Sunday is my younger nephew’s birthday party. He turned eight on Tuesday! It will be a busy weekend, but all things I’m looking forward to.
What was the high of your week?
Kyria @ Travel Spot
My favorite part of the week was that it was short! Hah! I am glad it is Friday and that this week went by fast. I have been alone at work (normally there are three of us) and I don’t mind the alone part but I have been having to do all of the things myself. Not an issue, just more work lately!
I love Jamie’s take on marriage; I have a grandmother that used to (I guess she gave up…) admonish me when I would split up with someone, as if I “let them get away,” as if I should put up with someone who I was not compatible with just so I could be with someone. She would say, “but he was such a great guy” as if the half an hour she spent with him was enough to know everything about him. But she was raised in an era and a society where women got married (she has been married three times) and she wants that “happiness” for me too.
Stephany
I relate so much to your story about your grandma! My mom told me this story about something my grandfather said when he was talking about me. He was praising all of my accomplishments, but then ended by shaking his head and saying, “We just need to get her married!” I was only in my late twenties at the time of this conversation and it’s something we joke about now in our family. It’s more funny than sad to me because I’m very happy with my life as-is!
Another great point Jamie made in this podcast episode was that women used to not have any other option than to get married. They weren’t allowed to even have a bank account until the 1960s! Marriage came with the ability to have a home and a family. And now, women have so many more options available!

And thank goodness for that! I read books like Sense and Sensibility etc. and I just think “no way!” I would hate to have my life consumed by the thoughts of who (or how) I was going to marry.

Book club sounds super fun– who doesn’t love PJs and nachos?
Suzanne
A pajama nacho party?!?! That sounds amazing!
I have had Our Missing Hearts on my nightstand for months now and haven’t yet picked it up! I feel like there is a lot of (internal) pressure to like it, so I’m kind of afraid. So silly!
Stephany
I have the same emotion when it comes to reading a super popular book, so I get that feeling 100%! So far, it’s not blowing my socks off and is soooo very different from her other two books.

The high of my week was my husband canceling his face-to-face classes because of an ice storm, so we’ve been huddled together at home for days! He has some meeting today, but they’re all video meetings, so it has sort of felt like a mini-winter break all over again!
Good luck with your busy weekend – it sounds like great fun!
Stephany
Well, boo to the ice storm but hooray for getting some extra cuddle time with your husband! That sounds really, really nice. <3
Nicole MacPherson
I listened to your podcast so I knew a pajama party was upcoming! How fun.
I really liked Our Missing Hearts, but it was so different from Ng’s other books. I will be interested to hear what you think.
I have never ordered Uber Eats so I didn’t know that things could just be cancelled like that! How disappointing.
Your weekend sounds very fun and is kind of the opposite of mine. Our dinner plans fell through, and the boys are out this evening, so it’s going to be a cosy, empty nest evening for us! It is a harbinger for things to come, I guess.
Stephany
I don’t remember ever having an order canceled on me like that! It was brutal because I was just so excited for some takeout pizza. Womp, womp!
The empty nest has to be such a wild experience to go through, after so many years of having kids always there. Maybe it’s good to get tiny windows into what it will be like full-time. <3

Well we never mop our floors! Eeks! I know our cleaners did and I miss that clean feeling and scent. Phil vacuums and sweeps and very very occasionally mops.
Last week was kind of tough with me traveling while Mn got a huge snow storm, plus Paul threw up one morning… so I felt a lot of mom guilt! But the high was connecting with 2 coworkers. I had dinner with 2 different people both nights that I was in Chicago. That meant being out until 8:30 or later so the days were long but it was nice to reconnect with people I hadn’t talked to in quite awhile!
Stephany
THIS COMMENT MAKES ME FEEL SO MUCH BETTER! I feel like such a slob only mopping once a month, lol, so I’m glad to hear it’s not something you do that regularly. I need to get better about running the vacuum weekly. It’s a robot so you’d think it would be easier but I swear getting things off the floor so the vacuum can move around takes longer than expected.
Kim
OMG I can feel that Ubereats pain! Only to have the anticipation squashed! A few weeks ago we went and picked up takeout and brought it home and it had things in it I don’t eat and I was so sad! LOL.
We were looking into the robot mopper but it was too $$$ for us!
I need to listen to that Married episode on the Bible Binge! I have never listened to that show. I am glad it made you feel seen.
The high of my week was making a new lemon cookie recipe that was delish!
Stephany
OH NO! I am always so worried that my Ubereats order will be wrong, haha. It’s happened before but luckily, every time it has, the order I receive is much better than what I ordered so it’s actually a pleasant surprise. I just always feel bad for the person who received MY lame order, lol.
Kate
Ugh, I hate when a delivery order gets canceled. It leaves you in such a food lurch!
I also LOVED “The Girl Who Smiled Beads.” What a powerful story.
Stephany
It really does leave you in the food lurch! It was closing in on 7:30 pm at that point and I was like “What do I doooo?” LOL.
San
Oh, I love that key holder shelf. If only I had a place to put it near the door (aka NO wall space).

Guilty. I never mop the floors. I do like them mopped though. I think for me it is the hassle of getting water and a bucket and all the other prep work.
Stephany
Mopping is such a hassle! I feel better knowing most people aren’t mopping their floors regularly. It always feels so good to have mopped floors, but the process is tedious!
