On Saturday, Dutch had his comprehensive exam. He had blood work, an EKG, and some other evaluations done. And everything came back fine! I was so, so relieved because I had been working myself into a real tizzy about the exam. Taking Dutch to the vet always makes me nervous because even though Dutch seems healthy, you just never know if something could be wrong. And anxiety is fairly irrational and makes me think of all the worst-case scenarios because if I’m not worrying about worst-case scenarios, then I just start worrying about why I’m not worried and it’s a never-ending cycle and just. not. fun. WOO! But he is healthy and normal and the vet is very pleased with him. 🙂
The only issue they brought up is his eyesight. He has a condition called nuclear sclerosis, which isn’t something to be concerned with. All it means is that his eyes have a cloudy, bluish-gray tint to them (my nephew says he has “bad guy eyes!”) and that he has minor vision impairment. He also has cataracts, but they’re small and nothing to worry about just yet.
All in all, a great exam and my boy is healthy! He’s such a little trooper. Love him.
Oh! Weird story. After the exam, I took Dutch around PetSmart to find him a new harness (pictured above! And yes, I mainly bought it because it has a bow tie. I die.) and ran across a couple who used to have dachshunds. They were shocked to find out that Dutch is 12 years old, and kept telling me, “None of our dachshunds ever made it past twelve. Their backs always went out.” UM THANK YOU! THANK YOU VERY MUCH! Gah, why do people have to say the dumbest things?
The high of my week was Dutch’s clean bill of health! It was the best news and I’ve been waking up every morning feeling so grateful.
A blog post I loved was Kerrie’s post on why she continues to blog. How I blog is something I continuously think about and restructure. My blogging style has changed a lot since I started this blog back in 2009. I love reading what other people think about blogging and how they’ve adapted to it changing over the years.
“I’ve decided to be so incredibly thankful that I was able to be a part of that golden age of blogging when it was all so pure and simple and basically like reading each other’s journals. No photos, no social media, no DIY, no ad revenue. Although each of those things are now a piece of my internet presence these days, I definitely do feel grateful that I started out without the pressure and perfection of the current blogging landscape.”
A podcast episode I loved was I Hate Being Highly Sensitive. I found this awesome podcast a few months ago and I really, really love it. Kelly has such a soothing voice and I love the wide range of topics she discusses. It’s helped me learn so much about being a highly sensitive person. This episode is one of her best, talking about all the annoying things about being an HSP.
The best money I spent was $36.59 on a new pair of jeans and two t-shirts at Old Navy. I’ve been wearing a pair of jeans for a while that just don’t fit me right and every time I wear them, they make me feel like crap. So I just bit the bullet, went to Old Navy, and bought a pair of better-fitting skinny jeans. They feel amazing on me! (Whyyy do I continue to wear things that don’t make me feel good?!) And, because Old Navy was having an awesome sale (40% off everything!), I added two shirts to the mix.
My plans this weekend include a nap this afternoon (!), lunch with girlfriends, a two-year-old’s birthday party, and a long walk with my favorite pooch.
What was the high of your week? Any fun plans for you this weekend?

Wow, you got an awesome deal on those jeans! I am really trying to get rid of stuff that doesn’t fit right or make me feel good about myself. I’m dropping 2 garbage bags of stuff off at Goodwill this weekend but further purging needs to be done!
The high of my week… Hmmm… This week sucked because of my water issues so it’s hard to see the good things that happened because it’s just been such a chaotic week and I feel overtired. But the best part of my week was having dinner at Allison’s last night. Her husband made a really good meal and it was fun to see their house and catch up. I have a fun weekend ahead of me, too. Tonight Phil and I are going to a cute, casual Cuban restaurant to celebrate the 2 year anniversary of our first date (which was last week but I had a friend visiting so we weren’t able to celebrate on the actual day). Then tomorrow Amber comes up from Des Moines and we are going to a book fair where Stephanie Perkins is speaking! So it will be fun to hear her. After that we’ll bum around Minneapolis and then have dinner at a fun restaurant that has board games and such. I have no plans on Sunday and really want to keep it that way because this week was so so so overplanned. And I get Monday off since it’s Columbus Day and the market is closed so I am hoping to be able to get my condo put somewhat back together (as much as I can at this point, they will have further work to do) before I leave for a 3 day business trip on Tuesday.

Oh yay! I’m so happy for you that Dutch is looking good! Sounds like you’ve got a nice weekend planned too. 🙂 I’ve got work tomorrow morning, but we do have plans to go pumpkin picking too, so it should be fun!
Caroline
I need to go to Old Navy! So happy to hear Dutch is doing well!

YAY DUTCH!! SO glad he’s doing well! And looking quite dapper in his new harness!
And I love Old Navy jeans. Pretty much the only ones I wear now. Sometimes they have weird sizing, but regardless, they’re always comfortable and look good. And they have some pretty good sales!
Nora
Can’t go wrong with a good pair of jeans! i’m on the hunt/search for some, myself. may have to check out Old Navy.
Glad that Dutch is doing a-ok! He and Jack can have eye issues together 🙂
Have an awesome weekend!
Emilie
I am really sorry to hear about your dad. I can’t imagine what it feels like to deal with something like that. Thinking of you, lady. xo
I haven’t bought jeans from ON in forever because I tend to be a size up in their bottoms and it just makes me mad. You can’t beat their pricing though! So happy to hear Dutch has a clean bill of health!! I always worry when it’s time to take my kitties for their check ups. You’re not alone there 🙂
This weekend I am running my first marathon!! Sunday we are spending the day cleaning my grandmas house and getting ready to start the moving process. I will be so happy to get rid of some of the boxes taking over my living room!! Have a fabulous weekend 🙂
Kara
I hate taking my old dog to the vet because I’m always just prepared for bad news an/or a high bill at the end. Luckily, at our last visit the vet said she looks great, so yay!
No super fun plans here, other than visiting with family throughout the weekend!

I seriously need to make a detour to Old Navy this weekend, they have the best deals! And my highlight this week was successfully going on a walk 3 of the 5 past days. And baking. And booking some meetings. As for this weekend, lots of friend dates which I’m so excited for!

Sweet deal at Old Navy! I need a new pair of jeans, too; headed to the GAP while I’m in the ‘burbs this weekend. Glad Dutch is healthy, if slightly blind. 🙂
Gina
Yay for Dutch and his good health! He is lucky to have an owner who takes such good care of him. 😉
I’m really interested in listening to that podcast and reading your post on being a HSP. I’m overly-sensitive myself and it’s been really bothering me lately– so much to the point where I’ve been wondering if there’s a way to change this about my personality. 😛

That is a very, very interesting blog post you shared! It’s so true, things have changed sooo much in the blog world. I miss spending more time in it honestly, but am also happy to have experienced it in the last few years 🙂
Amber
So glad to hear that Dutch had a clean bill of health!! Hope you enjoyed your weekend!

So happy he got a clean bill of health! LOLing at the “bad guy eyes”! NOT LOLing at what the people at PetSmart said. Sigh 😉
I need to read that post about continuing to blog cause that quote really resonates with me. I miss the journal aspect – hard to find some blogs like that these days!
