The high of my week was having dinner with my cousin, her daughter, and my mom. My cousin graduated with her BSN last weekend, but we weren’t able to attend her graduation, so we happily took her out for a yummy dinner at one of our favorite places. We got to catch up, which was so nice. And we learned that my cousin has a fangirl thread on a local infertility support group on Facebook! She’s a nurse at a fertility clinic and it does not surprise me at all that her patients love her so much that they boast about her on a Facebook page. She is such a kind, patient, and caring soul—the epitome of an enneagram 2!
The low of my week was getting ghosted by the person who was supposed to pick up my bed frame on Wednesday night. Ugh! I really hate selling things on FB Marketplace, but it’s a huge bed frame and it would be nice to send it to a good home. The person seemed really keen on receiving the bed frame, but the time when he was supposed to pick it up, he disappeared from our Facebook messages. He had given me his cell phone number, so I tried texting him to ask about it, but he never responded. And then my anxiety brain decided that this meant he was actually a serial killer and preyed on people in FB Marketplace, and I had just given him my mom’s address and he was going to come over and murder my mom and stepdad in their sleep. !!! THIS IS WHERE MY BRAIN GOES, YOU GUYS. Anxiety is fun.
One nagging task I marked off my to-do list was calling my water company to find out why my water bill was so high this month. I’ve had to call them twice, but luckily, the second time, the man I spoke to seemed very adamant that something looked wrong on my bill. (It was $220 and my usage was nearly 13,000 gallons for a month! That’s more than 4-person household would use and it’s definitely more than a single person would use in a month, even someone like me who loves to take a bath almost every day, ha.) I’m hoping it can get corrected!
I’m currently reading four books! I am slowly reading The 1619 Project (it’s very dense, so I read one chapter every other day or so). My e-book right now is The Body by Bill Bryson, which I am loving. It’s so interesting! My print book is Happy Place by Emily Henry, which I’m not far enough into to give an opinion. And my audiobook is Sure, I’ll Be Your Black Friend by Ben Phillipe, which I just started yesterday.
A podcast episode I enjoyed was The Inflammation Theory of Disease on Stuff You Should Know. This paired very nicely with reading The Body and was quite interesting!
An Internet find I loved was k.s. Rhoads who takes popular children songs and sings them like one of his favorite “dad bands.” The videos he posts are so well-produced that they look like actual music videos, and the songs are SO GOOD. Like, I want him to put out an album with these songs. There’s Mumford & Sons singing You Are My Sunshine; Weezer singing Heads, Shoulders, Knees, and Toes; Dave Matthews singing Sesame Street; and Hamilton singing The Itsy-Bitsy Spider. THEY ARE SO GOOD!
The best money I spent this week was $23 on some new books! I had a $25 Barnes & Noble gift card that was burning a hole in my pocket, so it was exciting to do some online book shopping this week. The books I got: Something Wild and Wonderful, Women Are the Fiercest Creatures, and Last Night at the Telegraph Club.
My plans this weekend include lots of fun things and one not-so-fun thing. Today, I have my mole removal procedure, which won’t be fun but will be necessary. Tomorrow, I’m doing breakfast with my girlfriend and then she’s coming over to my apartment to finally meet the cats! (Well, it’s unlikely she’ll meet Lila since Lila likes to hide when company is over, but I’ll try my best to coax her out.) Later on Saturday, I have game night! And then Sunday will be a busy one, as I have Silent Book Club in the morning and then I’m heading to Bri’s to record a few episodes of the podcast. (Season 5!)
What was the high of your week?
Jen
Last Night At The Telegraph Club was an absolute joy to read and I want to put it into the hands of every queer teen (and adult!) I know. Such an amazing story and if you like it there’s a sorta-sequel called A Scatter of Light.
Stephany
Oh, I am so glad to get your rave review! It has gotten so many awards and I’m excited to read it. 🙂
Lisa of Lisa’s Yarns
I will be curious to see what you think of Happy Place. It was an enjoyable read for me but my least favorite of her 4 books. Text me when you are done so we can discuss the ending!
Selling stuff on FB is soooo frustrating. The ghosting experience is so common and so very annoying.
The high of my week was the nice weather we’ve had! It’s been so nice to be outside after dinner most nights. We are all so tired of being cooped up inside after our long winter!
Stephany
I am so glad you guys are finally having better weather! You have such a long winter and it has to be so difficult to be cooped up with two young boys during it. Now for all the outside time and park days! YAY!
Suzanne
Your weekend sounds super fun! Aside from the mole removal, of course, but that will be a relief when it’s done.
I have heard so many horror stories about selling things online. Well, not HORROR stories, in the murder-y sense (although my mind goes straight to murder too; brain twins!), but in the sense of dealing with awful people who never show up and never pay what they want to and ask for things for free with accompanying guilt trips. Yuck. I hope you find someone to take care of it quickly!
Stephany
Selling things online is just so frustrating! I just want to give you something nice for a very affordable price, why is that so hard?! Argh.
Kim
What a fun night out! Is your cousin a words of affirmation Enneagram 2? If so I bet that fan group is making her feel really good!
I am sorry the person not showing up for the frame made you spiral 🙁 And sorry they ghosted you at all!
OMG YOUR GF IS MEETING THE CATS?! exciting! Your weekend sounds great! I hope everything goes well today and your weekend somehow includes some downtime for you too.
The high of my week was getting Starbucks with a coworker I never get to see yesterday!
Stephany
I don’t know what her love language is, although I could see words of affirmation being hers. Everyone in my family tends to need to be affirmed, haha. It’s so cool that she has a fan page, and that so many people feel comforted by her!
She met Eloise! Lila hid the whole time she was over (of course!). But Ellie was super friendly and snuggly with her. <3
Nicole MacPherson
FB MARKETPLACE!!! I understand your frustration. I have had similar things happen on the buy nothing page – I AM GIVING SHIT AWAY FOR FREE AND PEOPLE DON’T COME AND GET IT. It makes me mental. In all likelihood this guy found a better deal and doesn’t have the balls to tell you that.
Good luck on the mole removal! And yay about your GF meeting your kitties!
I absolutely loved The Body, and Bryson is just such a hilariously witty author.
Stephany
Ugh, it must be even worse when you are giving things away FOR FREE. It just makes me feel a little squicky when I give someone my mom’s address and they don’t show up! Please don’t be a murderer. (He wasn’t, at least there’s that!)
San
So glad you were able to celebrate with your cousin. How fun.
I am sorry about the ghosting… I have some items to sell but I am so hesitant to go the FB Marketplace route. But where else do people sell stuff these days? Is Craigslist still a thing? (Their website seems so outdated.)
Have a great weekend!
Stephany
It’s so crazy that Craigslist has not updated their website interface in DECADES, lol. I remember looking for a job there in 2010/2011 and IT’S THE SAME THING TODAY. I don’t know where people sell things, other than FB Marketplace, though!
Engie
You know what I just learned? Sometimes people get gift cards and they go buy stuff for themselves with those gift cards. I always put them aside and the next time I need to buy a gift for someone else, I use the gift cards. I think I’ve been thinking “gift cards” means “money you use to pay for gifts.” LOLOLOLOL. What is even wrong with me?
Stephany
ENGIE!!!!!!!!!! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA. This comment delighted me to no end. GIRL! Go buy yourself something nice when someone gives you a gift card!!!
Anne
Oooh, I love Bill Bryson (just finished a Short History of Nearly Everything, which was published 20 yrs ago so is out of date but still so intriguing…) and have the Body already. Also have One Summer, which I have owned for years (in hardback??) but not finished. Might have to do that sooner than later – I’m kind of on a kick. 🙂
Congratulations to your cousin! That’s fantastic. And it sounds like she is working in exactly the right place for her. 🙂
And oooh, your girlfriend was meeting the cats? That’s… wow. That’s important! I hope it went well.
And what the what with your water bill? I hope they figure it out and you get free water for 6 months or something. Sheesh.
Stephany
I definitely need to catch up on my Bill Bryson. I really enjoyed The Body! I think I might try At Home next.
Thankfully, the water bill got taken care of and now I have a massive credit which should save me from needing to pay my water bill for quite a few months. So that’s nice!
Kate
UGHHH, selling stuff on FB MArketplace can be so great, but more often than not, it’s super frustrating. I hope you’re able to sell the bid quickly (and safely) to someone else!
