The high of my week was a very fun night with friends where we visited a romance bookstore and went out for pizza afterward. You’ll hear all about the fun in tomorrow’s FIG update!
The low of my week was feeling sluggish during my Wednesday night HIIT class. I think I need to start arriving at the gym a little early on Wednesday nights so I can warm up my body before starting the class. I think that’s part of the reason why I have so much lower back pain during the workout—my body is just so tight from sitting all day. I think if I did about 10-15 minutes on the elliptical and then did some static stretching, I’d feel a lot better in class. I mean, I’d still feel like I was dying but, like, a good kind of dying, you know?
I’m currently reading four books, ahhh! I am reading The Blue Castle by L.M. Montgomery for the CBBC. I’m also reading Beginner’s Luck by Kate Clayborn (print), The Favorites by Layne Fargo (print), and The Family Game by Catherine Steadman (audio). I’m not very far into any of these books (aside from The Blue Castle) so I don’t have much to say about them yet! (Oh wait, I am actually reading five books right now because I’m slowly working my way through Glucose Revolution by Jessie Inchauspe. I only read a few pages a day so I can really take in the information.)
A Reel I enjoyed was this girl showing us the smallest bathroom in NYC. You guys, I was not prepared!
A podcast episode I enjoyed was Trump’s Opening Salvo on 5-4. This was a sobering episode, all about the different executive orders and other chaos that Trump has inflicted during his first month in office and what it could mean for the courts. I always love their perspective and this was an especially good episode.
The best money I spent this week was $108 on all of my bookish goodies at Steamy Lit! I was expecting my bill to be a lot higher so I was pleasantly surprised with the total. Plus, I consider this to be putting my dollars where I want them: a woman-owned, minority-owned bookstore that aims to be a safe, inclusive space in our community. It doesn’t get better than that!
My plans this weekend include so many fun things! Tonight, Bri and I are getting together for our 10th annual Galentine’s Day! We are going out to dinner and then seeing Paula Poundstone live. Woop! On Saturday, I have book club in the morning and then I’ll have my writing date with Mikaela afterwards. On Sunday, Bri and I are getting together to record the podcast. !!!! It has been ages since we last recorded and I am really excited to get the podcast back up and running. Also, this is a four-day weekend for me (I took today off and Monday is a holiday for us), so I am very much looking forward to bookending my busy plans with lots of time to myself!
What was the best money you spent this week?
Oooh last night I went to Waitress with my friend Sandi, and she introduced me to her friends. We went out for dinner as well, it was a blast. Best money spent! Galentines, yay! But the best money is probably the new heat pump we are putting in – they are finishing the install today. Our old one, it was nothing but problems from the moment it was installed. It will be a relief to wake up in the morning and not have to check the heat pump like I’m some old timey woman seeing if I need to stoke the fire.
YES you should definitely give yourself a little warmup and stretch before your HIIT class! Especially stretch the hamstrings and hip flexors, tightness in those can lead to lower back pain.
Happy long weekend!
What a fun evening! I’m glad you had a lovely time. 🙂
Good thinking on the hamstrings and hip flexors. I’ll make sure to find some good stretches for those!
Oh, I want to go to a bookstore and spend $108 on books!!! That’s definitely good money spent (I like your description of the bookstore too- nice to support a place like that.)
I think you’re absolutely correct- you need a warmup before your class.
Happy Valentine’s Day! Enjoy your four day weekend- it all sounds really fun.
It was the best way to spend over $100! Next time you’re in Tampa, we’ll go here!
I did 20 minutes on the elliptical and then about 10ish minutes of stretching before HIIT last night and it helped SO MUCH!
I can tell that you had fun hanging out with your friends and buying books! Everyone looks so happy in the photo! What a great idea to go out and support a bookstore. I had no idea you did a podcast!
I talked about my podcast a lot more when we were releasing episodes, so I’ll make sure to talk about it more now, too! It’s called The Friendship Paradox and I host it with my friend Bri. 🙂
I hope your weekend is as lovely as it sounds! The best thing I spent money on this week was a mini-cupcake delivery for one of my friend’s birthdays. I was so excited when they landed on her porch and she found them and it made my day to make part of hers special (and thank goodness the cupcakes were yummy, too)!
What a sweet gift! I love that you were able to make your friend’s day like that. 🙂
I want to hear about your book haul!!!
I spent a lot of this week sick in bed so I didn’t spend much money this week. The real answer should be that the best money I spent was on our gas and electric bills cause it’s always good to keep those things going, but I forgot to pay those and now they payment is overdue…wump wump. I had fully intended to pay but the got sick and forgot. Adulting!!!!
I think, actually, the best money I spend will be on a birthday cake for my daughter’s birthday tomorrow.
Oh no, I’m sorry it’s been a rough week for you! I hope you are on the mend and back to your normal self. And actually, it feels good to know that I’m not the only one who sometimes completely misses a payment every now and then. I just need everything to be on autodraft!
I’m stumped at the best money spent this week question, since it was a low spend week. I refilled the rental car tank before returning it, made a small grocery run when I got back home, and paid for doggy day care…so I guess doggy day care was the best spend?
I was not prepared for the tiny bathroom either! The shower stall in my Airbnb was tiny and the shower head wasn’t moveable, so I practically had to step out of the shower to put soap and shampoo on.
Yay for a four day weekend!
Since I was traveling this week, I can’t think of any money that I actually spent! But the best money I spent in terms of my company card was on Starbucks lattes! That company is problematic, but it’s a reliable place to get my caffeine which was so necessary this week when I was feeling under the weather. But I’m hoping to spend money this weekend by placing an order for an oura ring!!
Have fun Recording a podcast with Bri! I can’t wait to listen!
I want to go to a romance bookstore! Fun!
That is a great idea to warm up! And I do 100P know what you mean about the different ways you can feel like you are dying in class LOL.
Omg that bathroom lol is something!! I mean, it’s NYC…
Money spent… Uber to NYC and back. It was bloody expensive yes, but he picked us up and delivered us to the theater, then picked us up again, and delivered us home. Zero hassle. But I was dying in the inside thinking of that money. But T insisted so I just went along.
