TGIF (v. 78)

The high of my week was applying for an apartment! My mom and I toured this apartment over the weekend and they were running an incredible special: two months free rent + I could get the admin fee and application fee waived if I put in an application by Monday. Unfortunately, it also means I had to pick a move-in date far earlier than I expected and will be getting the keys to my new place the Saturday before I leave for London. !!! My current apartment’s lease isn’t up until November 9th, but I’m hoping I can finagle a way out of the lease early (keep your fingers crossed for me). In any event, this will give me plenty of time to slowly move into the new place and I’m not planning on doing the big part of the move (furniture + heavy boxes) until the week of October 20th, most likely. (Well, I’ll do it earlier if I can get out of my lease before November, but if not, that’s the plan.) It’s a two-bedroom within my price range. The second bedroom will be the perfect space for an office, and I can’t wait to show you guys when I’m all moved in!

The low of my week was more trigger finger pain. This time, it was my left finger. Last week, I got a steroid shot for trigger finger in my right index finger and it took away the pain completely! My left index finger has had some minor pain, but I figured since it was in my non-dominant hand, it wouldn’t bother me as much. But surprise! We use our non-dominant hand for a lot of tasks. The pain got progressively worse over the weekend, and I finally called my ortho on Wednesday. He was able to fit me in for a same-day appointment. It’s been almost two days since the shot and I have no pain. Modern medicine, how I love thee.

I’m currently reading Birding with Benefits by Sarah T. Dubb, which is a cute romance with older characters. (I mean, they’re in their early forties, but that’s unusual with romance novels!) I also just started Hestia Strikes a Match by Christine Grillo on audio.

A Reel I loved was this one that turns the TV show Schitt’s Creek into a horror movie. It’s so good!

A show I watched this week was The Amazing Race. I’m watching an older season, season 6. I knew this was going to be a tough season to watch because it features a character who is infamous for being essentially abusive to his partner the whole time they’re racing. These days, I don’t think his behavior would fly, but this was 2004 and reality TV was very different.

The best money I spent this week was $100 to apply for the apartment (which will be credited back to me). That was definitely an exciting purchase!

My plans this weekend include so many things! Today, Bri and I are meeting up to record two episodes of our podcast and then we may watch The Thursday Murder Club. Tomorrow, my mom and I are going to do some shopping and errands, and later, I have a writing date with Mikaela. And Sunday, my mom and I are going to a dachshund meet-up in Tampa (AHHH!) and then it’s football with the fam. If the Dolphins could actually look like a professional football team this week, that’d be lovely.

What was the high of your week?

Good news about your new apartment lease. It may have happened quickly but when the opportunity presents itself, you gotta take it. I want to watch The Thursday Murder Club too, but have been putting it off until just the right time. Maybe this weekend will be it.

You have to let me know your thoughts about The Thursday Murder Club!

All of the move-in fees waived AND two months of free rent? I couldn’t turn that down! I’m so happy with my decision. 🙂

Congrats on getting the new place! That’s a big one off the goal list. MOAR SPACE!!!!

The high of my week is about to start. I’m at my layover on the way to see Elisabeth!!!

I listened to your latest podcast episode this week and laughed when Bri said she was thinking about getting a travel credit card but couldn’t get past having a card with an annual fee. Girl, I used to be like that!!! And now I’m in the middle of my third free flight of the year (all very expensive flights so something like $2,500) for my annual fee of $95. Sign me up to pay a fee like that any time!!! Hey I didn’t know what I didn’t know and it is intimidating to start.

That is such exciting news about the apartment. I know it’s been on your list for years now and it feels like the perfect timing (well, aside from getting the keys right before you leave the country).

How was Thursday Murder Club? I’ve seen it on Netflix, but haven’t gotten around to watching it yet.

Birchie comes today so I need to get off my laptop and start prepping supper!

Thursday Murder Club was pretty good. I am annoyed that they made a very stupid change (even the author is annoyed at this, so I’m in good company), but I enjoyed the movie for what it was!

I hope you and Birchie have had the BEST time together!

Wow, even if you can’t get out of your current lease early, two months free rent means it’s doable to overlap! Very cool. You’re going to love the extra space. I’m happy for you that this worked out this way.

Thank you! Yes, two months of free rent definitely helps things feel a little less hectic during the moving process!

That is such great news about finding a new apartment!! Yay!! I hope you can get out of your other lease a bit early but even if you can’t, it is so nice to have a good amount of overlap between the 2 to give you time to move out and clean the old place! What a relief to have found something, though!

The high of my week was getting back from the conference i attended. The conference was so incredibly exhausting with all the meetings and other interactions. I was so worn out and was just so happy to be home with Phil and the boys.

I missed the Vikings opener as I had a work dinner that night. I snuck out to the bar a couple of times to see the score (we were in a cell phone dead zone). It sounds like the first 3 quarters were terrible and then we came alive in the 4th quarter and pulled off a win. We play on Sunday night this week which is too bad – I would much prefer an afternoon game (I’m too tired to stay awake for SNF).

Yes, I don’t mind a slow move-out process. It gives me time to pack and get ready, and then time to clean the old place and such. I don’t like a time crunch when I’m moving!

      Your conference sounded so exhausting!

Eeeee new apartment! That’s so exciting! I hope you can end your lease early but if not – two months free rent? That’s amazing.
There is a video short that turned Elf into a horror movie and it cracks me up every time I see it!
Today I’m having the girls over for a fondue party for my friend’s birthday! I’m excited (although I’ve never made fondue before so hoping it goes okay.)

If you ever see/find the video of Elf as a horror movie, LET ME KNOW. I need to see that!

Two months free rent was definitely the selling point! And getting all my move-in fees waived. How could I turn that down?!

Congrats on the apartment!! That is so exciting. And, I am so glad you can have a bit of time to move your stuff and get settled. My daughter’s math teacher is a Dolphins fan and promised no homework if they win, so my guy has been losing his mind as she has become a vocal Dolphins fan the past 2 weeks haha!

I am so sorry that your daughter is going to have homework ALL SEASON LONG BECAUSE WE CAN’T WIN TO SAVE OUR LIFE.

It makes me giggle, though, that your daughter is now a vocal Dolphins fan.

Yes, what in the WORLD happened to the Dolphins??? Let’s just start all over again and forget about last week’s game.
Yay for the apartment!!! That’s exciting, and I can’t wait to see the whole thing when you move in and fix it up. You’ll be in just in time to decorate for the holidays!
Your weekend sounds busy and fun. Oh, and that’s awesome about the shot for your finger. I wish everything could be solved with a shot like that!

A new apartment!!! Oh my goodness – the next few months will be packed with exciting things for you, I can’t wait to hear about it all.
I’m sorry to hear about your finger pain. I guess you’re now an equal opportunity steroid shot-ter.
The high of my week was my cousin’s visit – she’s great with the kids and just brought a different energy to our house while she was here. She convinced me to go go a free trial yoga class and it was very chill and relaxing.

Thank you! I am so excited about the new place – and having 300 more square feet to work with!

The good news is that those steroid shots WORK for my trigger finger. So hopefully I don’t need to repeat the treatment or do surgery!

There’s nothing better than a houseguest who helps bring up the energy of the house. I love that for you!

Congrats on the new apartment! Crazy timing right before your trip- but at least you don’t have to actually move in then! That makes it all better and maybe even more exciting, to have plenty of time to get settled.

Yes, I won’t be moving in until the last week of October, so I’ll have plenty of time to slowly settle in!

Ohhhhh so excited for the apartment. I am surprised that it is so easy to get a new place to rent. Here in Berlin the market is so competitive that for one apartment there are over hundreds of applicants.
I am looking forward seeing your new place.

Every time I read about your writing date my heart goes out. I find this is such a wonderful friendship you have. I want a writing date in my life.

It’s a lot harder to get a privately-owned apartment or condo than it is to rent from an apartment complex. So that’s the route I always go because I can’t deal with the stress of that!

Now I just wish we lived closer so you could join our writing dates!

Congratulations!!! The timing is just perfect- I love a “clean” cut off when one thing starts while another finishes. Example: going on maternity leave right before winter break (with my son Rainn). The high of last week…. I don’t really know- overall it was overwhelming but I did hold my shit together -mostly.. Ah, probably Friday night- we ordered pizza and muscles and had a fun dinner together.

I’m excited for your new apartment, and love that you get two months free! When we moved to Philadelphia, we got one month free, and they let us stretch it over 12 months, so it reduced our rent for the first year. It sounds like you may be paying double rent at first though, so best to take it up front.

I have done the gradual move thing, and I don’t recommend it. My experience has been that it’s actually much easier to just bite the bullet and get everything over at once. Will you be moving furniture and such yourself, or paying movers? The first time we could afford to pay movers was life changing. It was so much easier, I think we had everything unpacked before we went to bed that night. If not, it was definitely by day 2. I hate living out of boxes, and really want things to be put away, but just not being exhausted was a big factor.

My moves are usually slow and gradual, and that’s the way I like it. I enjoy being able to figure out when I want to do the “big” move part and having time to clean the old place, too. Plus, my new place is only going to be 5 minutes away so it’ll be very easy to pop back and forth over the month!

I am hiring movers – my first time! I usually get my brother to help me, but it’s time to bite the bullet and leave it all to the professionals.

NEW APARTMENT! Sending so many positive thoughts that you do NOT end up in the situation I had. :\ (I know you won’t; you have been looking forward to this for so long!) Slow moves are amazing – you don’t even have to really pack many things. Just… put them in the car, and take them over.
Cannot wait for the photos of the doxie meet up. I’m dying already from the mental images. 🙂
