Happy Friday, friends! I woke up on Thursday thinking it was Friday, so I don’t think I need to say how very, very thankful I am for today. How about a little “Five For Friday” to ease us into the weekend, eh?
1) I’m still not over Sunday night. On the one hand, I’m glad Seattle won so we won’t have a divided house for the Super Bowl, but on the other, I am just devastated about the Niners losing. And losing they way they did! Sigh. It was a hard, hard ending to a well-fought battle. In any event, we are all rooting for the Broncos! Peyton needs another ring!
2) My laptop is currently infected with malware/adware/spyware. All of the above. I don’t have any sort of virus protection, but I can still use the computer, it just runs a little slower and I get these random pop-ups from time to time. I’ve tried running software to find it and get rid of it, but it can’t identify it. I think my only real option is wiping my hard drive clean and starting fresh, and that doesn’t really appeal to me. I may end up doing it as a last resort, but I honestly just want to go out and get a new computer. This one is on its last leg as it is (the battery is basically toast and only works when plugged in) and I’m ready for something new. I mean, I still have all my debt goals to take care of, but I am hoping my tax refund can help me with buying a new laptop. (I’m talking a cheapo $300 laptop. No MacBooks for me!) We’ll see!
3) One thing I failed to mention in my post from Monday is that I’ve teamed up with Allison to be accountability buddies for this year. We both want to lose weight and we both have been trying and failing for so many years that we totally get each other. Every Sunday, we email one another and talk about how our week has gone. The good, the bad, the successes, the failures. We also weigh in with one another to give even further accountability. I’ll tell you, there have been times when I’ve wanted to get something super unhealthy for lunch or dinner, but then realize I have to check in with Allison, so I don’t. It’s great motivation! But what’s even better is that we’ve raised the stakes and made it a competition. At the end of every month, the person with the highest percentage of weight loss (I sound like Allison from The Biggest Loser right now, don’t I?) gets a $10 gift card to the store of their choice. How’s that for some motivation?! I am really happy Allison and I are in this together, makes this whole weight loss journey seem a lot less lonely and a lot more fun.
4) I am having the hardest time drinking 50 ounces of water a day. I don’t know if I just don’t get thirsty as much as other people but it’s all I drink throughout the day, and I’m still only hitting 30-40 ounces a day. It usually takes me a full workday to drink 24 ounces (and sometimes, I drink even less) and then I’ll only drink a few more ounces (maybe around 10?) with dinner. I’m not drinking anything else, really. (Though I do drink Gatorade during workouts because I just can’t stomach water at 5 in the morning.) Is it possible to not need as much water as other people? I don’t feel like forcing myself to drink when I’m not thirsty, or guzzling down 10 ounces right before bed to get in my daily count, but what else can I do? HALP?!
5) My weekend plans are pretty light, which I’m thrilled about. I plan on getting in some really great workouts, organizing around my apartment, seeing family, writing (both blog and fiction!), and going on a date. It should be a wonderful weekend!
How much water do you drink daily? Who are you rooting for in the Super Bowl? Any fun weekend plans?

I am terrible at drinking water. I drink a green smoothie in the morning and I’ve been trying to at least drink hot decaf tea (which is basically water, right?) through the day, and coconut La Croix. I drink regular water before and after I have aerobics or run.

Sometimes I have that problem with water too. My best advice? Find something you like (Propel, Gatorade, etc), and drink a bottle of that in the morning with breakfast. I find that if I have water (in some form) with breakfast I’m more apt to reach for it throughout the day. It’s also really effective when I blackmail myself (tough love baby!) and tell myself if I DON’T drink that bottle with breakfast I cannot go to Starbucks or have coffee, etc.
Also, that’s awesome that you and Allison are teaming up – accountability makes ALL the difference! Good luck with your laptop – if you end up having to get a new one maybe you could find a tablet for around the same price? Depending on what/how much you use the laptop the tablet might be a better fit and easier to take places?
Ben is off ALL weekend (through Monday!) so I plan on really enjoying some quality time with him. Our niece is also here so we have some fund bonding plans with her tonight. Hopefully it’s a nice relaxing weekend – sounds like just what I need right now!

I think that’s awesome that you have teamed up with Allison, accountability makes a huge difference when it comes to losing weight! I need to work on drinking more water. I used to drink SO MUCH at my old job but I somehow fell out of the habit. I’m back to trying to get through at least 1 of my 1 L bottles per day.
Happy weekend!

Do you know specifically what the malware is? I got some last month but I was able to see the name of the programme in the corner of one of the popups. Then I googled how to get rid of (programme name) and managed to get the culprit uninstalled properly.

I had a similar issue with my computer last month. My brother is great with computers so I asked him what to do – he said go to the ‘extensions’ area of your blog and delete anything that looks weird. When I did that, I only had one extension, and it was a name that was on the pop-ups. Deleting that fixed it for me, so I hope it helps you, too!
I have been trying to drink 64 oz of water a day. A lot of the time I drink when even when I am not thirsty… someone once told me that if you feel thirsty, that is a sign of slight dehydration, so you should drink water regularly, even if you don’t feel thirsty. I will also drink water when I am hungry to try to stave off the hunger. It works sometimes!

I am the WORST at drinking water. Unless I’m extremely thirsty (while working out or after a hot shower), I can’t drink more than a few sips at a time. My stomach actually feels really full/bloated if I try to drink a whole glass of water at once. But if it’s anything with a flavor/sugar in it, I can gulp it down a lot faster. My solution has been putting fruit in my water, specifically fresh lime slices (or sometimes even just lime flavoring from a bottle). Something about having a taste makes it a lot easier.

I drink ZERO ounces of water on a daily basis. It’s actually quite horrible, really, so good for you for even drinking 24 oz! When I worked I drank a lot more water during the day, but now? Never. I had to “encourage” myself to drink water too buy adding those little low-calorie flavour packs to it too. Making it taste better definitely helped!
I don’t pay much attention to football or the NFL in general, but everyone here in BC seem to have jumped on the Seahawks bandwagon, given their proximity to us. I guess I’ll cheer for them in my head come Superbowl Sunday, but I’ll probably not watch.

Oof. Is there anything worse than waking up thinking it’s Friday when it isn’t? Such a terrible feeling.
I drink a ton of water every day. Seriously. Not counting coffee in the morning, I chug down about 40 oz at work alone, and another 40-50 oz of water/herbal tea at home. It’s sort of a habit left over from the days immediately following my decision to give up alcohol – I replaced booze with every other liquid under the sun, apparently. Ha!

Ooh, A DATE? Sounds super exciting! 😉
I have a hard time drinking water, too. I usually only drink one water bottle a day which is about 22 oz.
I’m rooting for Seattle because my FIL is a huge Seahawks fan. Otherwise, I wouldn’t care at all because I’m not much of a football fan.

If you aren’t thirsty, you aren’t thirsty! I don’t measure how much water I drink but it’s pretty much all I drink at work. Once I get home though I mix it up with tea!
Amanda
I’m working hard on drinking water too! Let me know if you are looking to extend the accountability to others as well — I’d be willing to chip in and make a biggest loser group! I just started weight watchers, and weigh in on Saturdays, but need all the accountability I can get!
Linda
Weekend was fun. We had a “snow day” on Friday which afforded me some unexpected time to grab a lunch with a friend who was passing through. I also went to a day of food workshops on Saturday as an invited guest. Sunday, I cooked for the week and for a day time party. 🙂 All activities fed my soul.
Thanks for reminding me on drinking more water!
