1) Trigger finger
I mentioned this joint pain a few weeks ago and things continue to deteriorate. I scheduled an appointment with my orthopedic this week to get it looked at, and it looks like I have trigger finger! Basically, the sheath that holds the tendons of my fingers is inflamed, which means every time I try to move my fingers (to type, to use my mouse, to tap on my phone…), those tendons don’t have as much room to glide as normal. And thus: pain! My ortho gave me a steroid shot in my right hand at the base of my pointer finger (palm side). It was painful because not only was this joint very tender, but it was almost like I could feel the liquid from the shot move down my finger. It was both a weird feeling and a painful one. We decided to wait on doing a steroid shot for my left hand right now—it’s not nearly as painful, and it’s not my dominant hand, so resting it is a lot easier. I go back in a month to see if I need a second steroid shot in my right hand (I can get up to three steroid shots spaced a month apart before we start discussing surgery). It’s been a few days since I got the injection, and my pain level has decreased a lot, so yay! I’m hoping I don’t need follow-up shots (my ortho said about 80% of people only need one shot). However, my left hand isn’t getting better so I’m guessing I’ll need a shot in that hand very soon. The fun never ends!
2) It’s fall (in my apartment, at least)
Last weekend, I pulled out my big tub of fall decorations to decorate my apartment, and let me tell you what a mood boost it is to look around my apartment and see felt pumpkins and little succulent ghosts and tiny orange trees and fall signage and enough black cat decor to make Lila feel a little jealous. (Sorry, girl! Black cats steal the stage this time of year!) My fall-scented candles are out and I’m lighting one every evening, which adds a touch of coziness to my home. There are a few empty spaces in my apartment that need to be filled with more fall decor, so good thing my mom and I are planning a Home Goods shopping trip this weekend!
3) My addiction is Tootsie Rolls
I don’t know what it is about Tootsie Rolls, but the minute I buy a bag, I cannot control myself. It’s such a weird addiction to have. I can keep ice cream and potato chips and cookies and all kinds of other sweet treats at home without any issues. But get some Tootsie Rolls in front of me and I’m a savage. I’m not even going to tell you guys how quickly I have gone through nearly an entire bag of Tootsie Rolls, but it’s embarrassing. This is why I don’t let myself have them very often. I get to buy a bag once or twice a year, enjoy the hell out of them, and then cut myself off for as long as I can stand it.
4) My decluttering journey
I’ve been doing well with my goal to declutter one small space every week. Here’s what I’ve accomplished so far:
- Shoe basket – I keep a shoe basket by my front door and there were just so many shoes I haven’t worn in over a year sitting in this basket. I think I got rid of 4 or 5 pairs of shoes.
- Purse bin – This purse bin holds my collection of old purses/totes/wallets that I’m not using anymore but think I may want to use again in the future. From this declutter, I learned I have SEVEN wallets. At least three of them looked nearly identical, so I suppose I have a type.
- Shelf of one of my kitchen cabinets – I had a kitchen cabinet that had a small appliance that no longer works and some odds and ends that needed to be thrown away. Now that shelf is half-empty!
- Another shelf of one of my kitchen cabinets – I had so many spices that were expired! And I have three full salt shakers (compared to one pepper shaker, lol). Eye-opening.
5) Weekend plans
I’m looking forward to my weekend! I don’t have anything going on tonight, which will be very nice. Tomorrow, my mom and I have a fun shopping day planned, and we’re also going to tour a few apartments and run some errands. And Sunday, I have a writing date with Mikaela and then FOOTBALL SUNDAY for the rest of the day. We’re so back, baby! I am so stinking excited for the first football Sunday with the fam of the season. (And will be even more excited with a Dolphins win. Let’s goooo!)
Is your home decorated for fall yet, or are you normal? What are your weekend plans?

I don’t really decorate much for fall, though I should be on the look out for some decor at thrift stores because it would be fun to jazz things up a bit.
Ouch. The pain and the injection sound awful. My husband has a frozen shoulder and has had a number of steroid shots. They’ve worked well for him, but sometimes it has taken a second shot 🙁
I LOATHE Tootsie Rolls. I can send you every single one my kids get for Halloween this year. Blergh. My addiction is Twizzlers. I only have them a few times a year (usually at my birthday and Christmas), but I eat the entire bag in a day. It is something I really enjoy binging and I do it so infrequently that I’ve just embraced it! I don’t crave them any other time of the year, but when I get a bag I inhale it (almost literally).
I truly do not know why I love Tootsie Rolls so much. They aren’t even GOOD CHOCOLATE. But alas, I am who I am and I will gladly take all of your Tootsie Rolls. I’m “take it or leave it” for Twizzlers. I can’t remember the last time I had them!
Yes, GO DOLPHINS! So exciting, it’s starting! You know there’s a game on tonight- KC and LA are playing in Brazil. Just in case you’re bored with nothing to do! We have a high school football game so I’ll be at that.
That steroid shot sounds so, so painful- but I’m glad it’s helping! Yes, hopefully you won’t need another one. Trigger finger is such a weird thing- it hurts so much, but it’s not really that hard to get rid of it (with a little intervention).
I’ve been putting out my fall stuff little by little, but it will all be out this weekend! And I’ve been lighting my scented candles- fall scented candles are the BEST!
The steroid shot for my right trigger finger did the trick! No more pain – woohoo! But now my left pointer finger is acting up so it looks like I’m going back for another steroid shot. I’m waiting for my muscles to come in after all these steroids! 😉
Ha – I have not decorated for fall yet. I guess I’m hoping if I ignore fall, summer will stick around a bit longer? Which is weird (in addition to being not how things work) because I love fall. Football! Cool weather! Soup! Colorful leaves! Boots and sweaters! But I’m not ready yet.
I’m so glad you are having good luck with the steroid injection. It sounds pretty awful. Reminds me of the injection I got when I first tried to treat my plantar fasciitis. The injection was worse than the foot pain! (And it didn’t work, so it totally wasn’t worth it.)
Hope you have a great weekend!
UGH. To have to deal with the pain of an injection AND IT DOESN’T WORK! That should be illegal. I’m sorry, friend!
Rob has trigger finger! He wears special finger braces at night and that has helped a lot. He never needed to get an injection or anything though.
I’m not decorating for fall yet but I will soon, probably! But these days all that means is bringing out my pumpkin and leaf-themed tea towels.
I tried the finger braces but they didn’t really help. The injection has taken away the pain completely, woohoo!
Your poor finger! My daughter has been dealing with trigger finger in her ring finger all summer; she also had it when she was 2 years old in her thumb. They can’t do cortisone shots for her age, so she’s been in occupational therapy which has helped a lot. So glad you were able to get it addressed and here’s to the pain continuing to decrease!
Ugh, I’m sorry your daughter has been dealing with trigger finger. She seems way too young to be dealing with something like this! The steroid injection took away the pain completely so hopefully that will be an option for her in the future.
Yikes! That shot in your finger does sound so weird! Did they recommend anything… like use your fingers less? (LOL, how)
That sounds like a fun weekend! I haven’t decorated for fall yet, but I did get a cute little ghost cat from the Dollar Spot at Target that I can’t wait to put out!
Not really! Even the PA said that there’s nothing I did to cause it to happen. It’s just something that happens to people and a quick steroid injection usually heals them permanently.
I haven’t been to Target to check out their fall decor. I have a lot of cat-themed fall decor already, but I definitely need more!
Ooh those steroids shots can be so painful but so effective. It helps to ice the area after the shot but gah it’s rough. My aunt has had trigger finger surgery in 4 fingers!! She was a choir teacher and accompanist so she was prone to trigger finger from playing piano so much and often at odd angles, like while standing. She just had surgery this spring and said the recovery was quick. So if you have to have that surgery, it sounds like it’s not terrible. But since you are likely getting carpal tunnel surgery you prob don’t want another surgery on top of that!!
We do not decorate for fall. I wish we had some outdoor decorations but it’s not a hill I will die on. We haven’t seen any outdoor decor yet. I love it when people put up their decorations! I used to hate Halloween but now that I have kids I really enjoy it!!
My weekend is very full. I had book club last night. I’ll run 8+ miles shortly and then we have 2 kid bday parties (1 of which I will skip I think). Then we have our block party this afternoon/evening. And then I fly out for a work trip tomorrow morning. Womp womp.
Luckily, my ortho said I could do the carpal tunnel surgery alongside the trigger finger, if necessary. Thankfully, the steroid shot took the pain away, but now the OTHER pointer finger is acting up so it looks like I’ll be back for a second shot. I always think of you when I get these steroid shots, lol.
I’ve never had a steroid shot, though my MIL has had many and she says how much they REALLY hurt, and how much they help. I hope this is a one and done for you.
This has been a very busy weekend so far…yesterday was eleventy billion errands, and today was a few errands and then a party for my FIL’s birthday, which was nice. I am hoping that tomorrow (Sunday) will be NOTHING. I would like to get up, do my weights/yoga/walk, come home, take a shower and maybe have a nap and read a book or maybe watch a movie. Wish me luck.
So far, the steroid shot took all the pain away so let’s cross our fingers it stays that way!
I hope you got to have a lazy Sunday!
I don’t ever decorate my apartment for fall. Maybe a fall bouquet but that is about it.
So sorry about your finger. It is so annoying to have pain when you need to work. Had some issues a while back and all the physical therapy didn’t help. Only when I started getting Vitamin D supplements the inflammation went down. I found this so interesting.
That’s very interesting about vitamin D supplements. I take a vitamin D pill every day, but I wonder if I should increase the dosage. Hmm… something to think about!
Ohhh I have heard about those shots! My good friend has a bad shoulder and she says she sees stars each time they do it. But she also says that it helps with pain!
Fall is my absolute favorite time of year! I have not decorated yet- still the dining room is being painted and some dust here and there from the kitchen renovation. I feel silly to bring out the decor while we have paint canisters all over… I don’t really have a lot of decor but yes- felt pumpkins, a garland or two.
Weekend… yesterday I was running around, checking things off my list (mainly work and cleaning). Today it’s raining buckets so no outside work, but will probably mop, and laundry, and read my book… Tony is traveling tomorrow and Tuesday so I need to prepare— meals, etc. and definitely mentally 😉
The injection is so very painful, but my right finger is now totally fine. It’s amazing what modern medicine can do, haha.
I feel a little silly myself putting out fall decor when I need to prep for a move, but alas! I am who I am.
I adore the photo of the cats. They look perfectly indifferent about having their pic taken, like they should.
I haven’t had a Tootsie Roll in years. I forgot about them. Laughed out loud about your 7 wallets. I recently realized I had five and wondered WHY? How did this happen? Who bought these things… 😉
They were waiting for me to give them treats, so it was a very exasperated, “Take the picture already!” from them. 😉
So glad the steroid shot worked, and hope that it works for the L finger, too, if needed.
You should know that I have next to no decor, let alone *fall* decor. Thank you for decorating for both of us. 😉
