Monthly Goals | January 2018

So, here we go! It’s January and it’s time to put all of those goals I have into action. My biggest goals for 2018 are to end the year thinner and more financially secure than when I started it, which means I need to put in the work to make that happen. It won’t just magically occur without deliberate action on my part!

Usually for my monthly goals, I name around five goals I’d like to work toward during the month, but I’m changing things up a bit in 2018. Instead, I have two categories for my monthly goals: Biting Off My Yearly Goals and Nagging Tasks. The first category is exactly what it sounds like: I’m taking those big yearly goals and putting specific action steps in place to be able to accomplish them by the end of the year. And the second category is tiny tasks that don’t have anything to do with my yearly goals; they’re just these nagging things I need to get done and I’m much more apt to do them if I have to report back in February. πŸ™‚

Biting Off My Yearly Goals

> Start tracking my food on MyFitnessPal (goal: lose 30 lbs)

> Drink only water and coffee while at work (goal: cut out soda completely)

> Email two therapists (goal: start therapy)

> Write 10,000 words in my novel (goal: finish my novel)

> Make a file on my computer compiling all of my mom’s engagement and wedding photos (goal: make a wedding album for my mom and stepdad)

Nagging Tasks

> Schedule a carpet cleaning (Dutch has destroyed my carpet and it needs a deep cleaning from a professional company)

> Put together my bookshelf (I bought one last weekend!)

> Sell my coffee table (I really want to redo my living room and it starts with getting rid of my coffee table)

> Donate my old laptop (y’all, it’s just been sitting in my apartment collecting dust for a YEAR)

> Frame the photo I bought in Puerto Rico and hang it up (it’s so gorgeous and has just been sitting in its plastic wrap for 8 months)

What’s something you want to accomplish in January?

I like the way you break out your goals between ones that are a year-long kind of project, and ones that are nagging tasks you need to do. In January, I’m participating in Apartment Therapy’s January Cure. I did this last year and really liked it. You get daily tasks emailed to you, but don’t have something to do EVERY day which helps. I won’t do all of the tasks since some of them require more of a long-term commitment to your home and we are planning to sell our house and buy a different one this summer. But I figure it will help me purge and get even more organized. One thing I specifically want to do is organize/clean all the cabinets in the kitchen and bathroom.

Ooh, I just cleaned out the cabinets in my bathroom and organized my walk-in closet and it was SO necessary. I went to Target and bought all these baskets and bins to organize these spaces in my apartment, and now it feels so nice since everything has a place and nothing is just thrown about in a cabinet. Best of luck with organizing your home in January!

I hope you share a picture of your new bookshelf once it’s put together. I love reorganizing/redoing rooms; gives it a fresh look and feel.

This month: I’d like to lose two pounds and not have desserts 4 to 5 days a week!

I’m sure you’ve heard of La Croix already, but if not, have you tried it? It’s flavored sparkling water in a can. They help me with my soda cravings sometimes bc they’re carbonated and the orange and lime flavors make me feel like I’m drinking orange soda and sprite. πŸ˜›

My January goal is to lose 10 pounds. Currently doing Whole30 so fingers crossed!

I tried La Croix once and I think I tried the wrong flavor because I did not like it at all. But so many people love it that I think I just need to find some of their better flavors. Do you have a favorite flavor? I think La Croix would be the perfect way to kick my soda habit once and for all.

I love how you split up your goals… there is definitely things you can accomplish “immediately” and some that need more time.

    My goals for January are
    – getting back into my exercise routine (after three weeks off)
    – setting up and using my bullet journal (I hope that I will love it)
    – maybe go back to Yoga once a week (although I’ve talked about this for like FOREVER!)

Yeah! It’s a good way to get some immediate wins and a good way to start working toward those bigger yearly goals I want to achieve this year. I really want to try yoga this year – it scares me, which is why I think I need to do it!

I have to got to Iowa for work next week so I’m hoping that I can maintain the fitness regime I’ve currently got myself on. I’m pretty good at going to the gym but when I travel it all falls apart so here’s hoping I can sustain it in Iowa, unless, of course, I freeze to death. Also, I need to declutter. That’s high on the list for January!

Ooh, decluttering is my FAVORITE. I did this at the end of December because I couldn’t handle my closets and cabinets anymore. They were bugging me SO much. And now everything is organized and I feel so much better. It’s amazing how much a decluttered home can stress us out!
