It was a solid month for my goals! I completed three out of five, and one of them is mostly complete. I did much better than March, that’s for sure! Let’s review:
April Goals
1) Schedule an eye appointment. Complete! I had my eye appointment last week, and discovered I no longer have 20/20 vision. Egads! It’s not terrible, as my prescription is -0.75 in both eyes (before I got LASIK, that script was more than -6!). Mostly, I notice the difference when I’m trying to watch something on TV, especially if the TV isn’t close. This could be due to PsA, but my rheumatologist isn’t convinced, so who really knows? The goal is to recheck in 6 months to see if things are getting worse. If so, we can discuss an enhancement. If not, I guess I take a wait-and-see approach (and maybe buy some cheapo glasses for those times when it’s annoying to squint at a TV).
2) Reorganize the cabinet under my sink. Complete! It felt so good to reorganize this cabinet. It probably didn’t look out of control to normal people, but I am not normal when it comes to my organizational requirements.
3) Offload some prescriptions. Half-complete? I went to a pharmacy to hand off these prescriptions, but they didn’t accept them. However, the pharmacist gave me a big envelope already addressed, so I can just drop the bottles in and mail them to a place that takes unused meds. Yay! I just need to… do that.
4) Read at least four books during my solo reading retreat. Complete! And I read five books, which still feels crazy to me.
5) Figure out my 401K situation. Ugh, no. Well, I completed the first step, which is to fill out some paperwork from my current 401k company. The next step is to contact my old 401k company.
May Goals
1) Figure out what to do about the gym. I am really sad about this, but it might be time to break up with the gym. Things just haven’t been the same since they fired my favorite HIIT coach, and I really don’t like any of the other HIIT coaches. Plus, I can’t even do HIIT right now until my psoriatic arthritis symptoms are under control, and who knows when that will happen?! (My rheumatologist has only given clearance for walks, the stationary bike, and swimming.) It feels silly to pay $35 a month to go to a gym where all I can do is bike (even sillier when my apartment has a gym, so I could just go there when needed). I’m still not sure what I want to do, but I’m going to take the month of May to figure it out.
2) Reorganize my junk drawer. The key to keeping an organized home is that you have to keep maintaining your drawers and cabinets and shelves! In May, I want to go through my junk drawer in my kitchen because it’s becoming a little unwieldy.
3) Buy an Oura ring. I think I’m going to join the Oura family! I enjoy my Apple Watch, but I only really like it for things like tracking sleep and other health metrics. I find it rather annoying to get a buzz every time a text or alert comes through. And I keep getting skin irritation from the watch band (I’ve tried multiple styles, and they all irritate my skin). I still have some money left in my HSA from last year that I’m going to put toward the Oura ring, yay!
4) Time track for one week. I’ve been inspired by SHU and Kae to do a week of time tracking. I’ve done it before and find it remarkably tedious, but I’m going to use the Toggl app to keep track, which will hopefully make things a lot less onerous. If you don’t see a time tracking report from me at some time in May, then I’ve completely failed at this goal!
5) Figure out my 401K situation. Rollover goal.
Do you have any goals this month?

Good luck with figuring out the gym situation! If you have a gym in your building that would be pretty ideal – although I know you liked going with your mom. Could you pause your membership until you’re cleared for other things? I haven’t been to a gym forever because I prefer using the Peloton and our home gym. It’s just so easy to pop downstairs and do a workout!
That’s too bad about your eyes but maybe it is just an adjustment and it will work itself out.
Take before and after pictures of the junk drawer!
My mom has also decided the quit the gym (she had a bad experience in one of the HIIT classes recently, and it’s really turned her off from going back to HIIT), so that’s mostly why I’m contemplating! I’ll have to see if I can pause it, though, because I would miss having access to all the classes! Hmm.
That’s interesting about your vision. I didn’t know PsA could affect that! I hope it hasn’t deteriorated more at your next visit 🤞🤞
That does stink about the gym but your logic makes absolute sense, especially when you can bike at the apartment.
I hope so, too! That would have been a very expensive mistake, if it turns out my eyesight is just going to get bad AGAIN. Blergh.
I would definitely use the apartment gym until your PsA is better managed. I mean you aren’t paying all that much for your gym (which I’m envious of!) but it’s still not worth the money spent at this point, especially since you don’t care for the HIIT coaches.
That is such a bummer about your eye sight worsening! Ugh! Phil had his done probably 20 years ago at his check up last week his vision was -0.25. But he barely needed glasses. He only needed them for driving and golfing. Is there any correlation between how bad your vision rx was and how likely corrections are? I had looked in Lasik many years ago but I wasn’t eligible for lasik because of the thickness of my corneas so I would have needed PRK. I never looked into it but after hearing about Elisabeth’s experience, I’m a hard pass on it!
My only goal for May is to get through the next round of fire exposure therapy. I took 5/22 off to tackle that and am rewarding myself with an afternoon massage!
Hmm… I’m not sure if there’s a correlation between my old rx and enhancements! I had a very easy time with the procedure/recovery thanks to my thicc corneas (lol), but I’m just hoping my eyesight doesn’t keep worsening. It would suck to pay all that money for LASIK and it doesn’t even last! Blergh.
Good luck with more exposure therapy, and I’m very glad you’re treating yourself to an afternoon massage!
Oh, man, if I did Lasik and then I STILL HAD TO WEAR GLASSES, I would lose my mind. But I regularly wander around life without any eye correction (I’m at about -2.5 to -2.75), so I don’t think I’d even clock less than one.
All of my May goals are rollover goals from last month – cleaning out a tote from my mom’s house, clean out the photo gallery on my phone (it’s embarrassing), and work on a journal project I’m doing through 2020. *sigh* I didn’t do them in April, but I will this month, right?
I am trying VERY HARD not to lose my mind about my eyesight, but it’s hard when I spent SO MUCH MONEY and it hasn’t even been 2 full years!!!!
I think not meshing with instructors is a valid reason to leave a gym, plus how great that your apartment complex has a gym you can use. There are so many nice things about where you live! Good job to offload your old prescriptions properly!
And the apartment gym is super close to my building, which is EVEN BETTER. Ha!
I finally got those darn prescriptions in the mail. I’m glad I got that done!
If you can’t do your workouts with your mom, then likely it’s not worth paying for the gym. Especially if you can ride the bike in your building! That’s great. We lived in an apartment with a gym once, and we used it a lot, it was so convenient, and free!
Could the vision be due to your PsA? Could it be inflammation somewhere in your eyes? UGH. I considered lasik once, but the doctor told me that then I would need reading glasses to see my computer, and I decided that I was not going to pay for that and then still need glasses. Besides, I have an irrational fear that right when the laser is over my eye, we will have an earthquake and I will be blinded.
I need to clean out my junk drawers. Such an ongoing thing, right? I mean, I did them a few months ago, but then life happened and they’re a mess again.
My rheumatologist doesn’t seem to think the vision issue is PsA related, but did recommend seeing an opthamologist soon to see if I’m dealing with any inflammation in my eyes. That wouldn’t necessarily cause vision problems, but would be useful info nonetheless. Who knew having a chronic inflammatory condition would require so many doctor’s appointments?! (Everyone did but me.)
Let me tell you a little story. I stopped going to the gym during Covid, but never canceled my membership. When I finally went back, they cheerfully informed me it had been over 1000 days since I’d been there (not sure why they felt the need to tell me that???) Sooooo…. cancel the membership. You can always go back if and when you want to.
Selfishly I hope you do the time tracking and share it here! It’s weirdly fun to read about.
LOL – maybe your picture is on the wall somewhere in that gym. “Members With 1000 Days Between Visits” HAHAHA.
I am going to do time tracking starting tomorrow, I think! Provided I remember. Ha.
I use my Apple Watch mainly for time and tracking. I have turned off all the alerts and pings. I don’t want to get interrupted.
I’ve heard about our so I am interesting to learn more. Not that I would get one.
