New Apartment Tour

Happy Monday! Now that my new apartment is mostly put together, I thought today would be a great day to give a tour of the place. I’ll preface this tour by saying my roommate and I are not decorators. At all. Most of our walls are still bare because we’re still trying to figure out how to decorate them. Oh, and if you notice any peculiar decor choices like squirrel mounts, well, that’s just part of the charm!

When decorating, I opt for comfort, minimalism, and function. I want clean, open spaces, but I also want something homey. Roomie is very similar to me, and we’ve really been able to bring this to our new home. I’m so happy with our apartment and it really does feel like home to me now.

So, shall we tour?

Apartment - Outside

All my life, I’ve lived in apartments that have outside entrances, so it’s a special treat for me to actually have a hallway and an inside entrance to my apartment. It definitely feels more secure, which is my biggest must-have when apartment searching.

When you open the door to my apartment, this is the view you will be greeted with. To your left is the kitchen (and my roommate’s room beyond that). In front of you is the living room. And to your right is my room, our washer/dryer, and my bathroom. Let’s start with the living room!

LIVING ROOM

Apartment - living roomIMG_0073

Our living room is small, but we don’t need much room, quite frankly. The couch is wonderfully luxurious and the TV stand makes me weirdly happy every time I see it (adulting much?) Roomie and I have already enjoyed many nights snuggled on the couch watching TV, and it’s every bit as wonderful as one might imagine.

And, of course, Dutch has his own corner for his blankets and pillows. He’s not one bit spoiled. Not at all. Uh-uh.

DINING ROOM

Apartment - Dining Room

Right off the living room is the dining room, which perfectly fits our dining table. We probably need some sort of print on that wall because the room looks a little bare. In due time, yes?

BALCONY

Apartment - BalconyIMG_0071IMG_0069

Right off the dining room, a door leads to the balcony, which is completely empty. Roomie and I are hoping to invest in a table and chairs. The view isn’t great (it’s laughably terrible, in fact), but what can you do?

KITCHEN

Oh, the kitchen. I love the kitchen. It’s big enough for Roomie and me to move around in together, and we have a ton of cabinet and drawer space. We also have a pantry! It’s so nice to have a pantry, though I’d really like to organize ours better. One of my favorite features of the kitchen is the deep sink. It’s so, so wonderful.

BATHROOM

IMG_0093IMG_0100IMG_0099IMG_0101

I love my bathroom. It’s at least twice the size of my bathroom at my previous apartment and I have way more counter and cabinet space. It’s really, really wonderful. Also, the tub makes my eyes turn into hearts. Bubble baths are my #1 form of self-care, and a deep, luxurious tub is something I haven’t ever had. This tub is my everything.

WASHER/DRYER

IMG_0105

Between my bathroom and my bedroom is the washer/dryer. Having an in-unit washer/dryer was one of Roomie and my must-haves when we were apartment hunting. It just makes life so much easier to not have to deal with communal laundry. And our washer/dryer is hidden behind a set of doors when not in use, which is also nice.

BEDROOM

IMG_0107IMG_0108IMG_0116

Lastly, we have my bedroom! My bedroom is a nice size, especially for a guest bedroom, and I’m sure I could easily fit a queen-sized bed (mine is a full) and a bigger dresser in my room without it feeling too cramped. (I have plans to do so, so it’s nice I will be able to!) I’m happy to have a walk-in closet, though I find the shelves to be a little awkwardly placed. I do wish I had more shelving options, but I could always add some if I wanted to.

And there you have it! A tour of my new apartment, a place I am so happy to call my home. There’s still some more decorating to do, but I think we have a solid base and I’m so proud of this little home I’ve created with Roomie.

How would you describe your decorating style in three words?

It’s fun to see your new home! Your kitchen is really nice! I love the cabinets! I am glad you guys are starting to settle in! It takes so long to decorate a place. Now that I have enough framed photos (which I’ve purchased over several years) it’s easier for me to decorate but I can not hang my own photos on the walls – instead my friends come over and do it for me and I make them dinner! My style is definitely minimalistic. I do not like clutter at all. Most of my photos are ones I’ve taken while traveling so it’s cool to be surrounded by memories I’ve made!

Love seeing your apartment! I’ve been living with my roommates over two years now and we still haven’t really decorated haha. It’s hard to mesh three people’s styles into one so we’ve just kind of thrown things up on the wall when one of us comes across something we like 🙂 I’d say my style is clean, somewhat minimalist and simple. I mostly just have some photos that I’ve taken hanging on the wall, and I only hung those up recently before my walls were pretty bare.

LOVE your kitchen cabinets, just gorgeous.

Decorating style? I don’t have one… does that count? 😉 I guess really I would say contemporary chic, maybe. I like clean lines, black and white prints, espresso color furniture.

Glad you are loving your new place!

I love how spacious your kitchen is! It’s great to have something like that in an apartment; usually they’re a galley-style and all cramped and tight. Nice score! Although I find it weird that the cupboards above the counter are a different colour than the ones below and on the island, but maybe that’s just me.

I have no design style, unless baby proofing and toddler clutter is a style ?

Your apartment looks lovely and it’s great that you are settling in now. My decorating style is white walls, light wood and plants, however my current home is still a work in progress!

Your apartment is lovely. The kitchen made me drool. The appliances and the kitchen island sink with the detachable faucet…drooooooollll! I also love your bathroom because it is ridiculously large and that tub is just beautiful. My decorating style is cozy, colorful and warm. Right now, my room is a hot mess but when I was living by myself (which was a very short time of about five to six months or so), my apartment had lots of colorful bins, dim lighting and blankets since I tend to be cold all the time. My bathroom had deep red carpeting and a black and white shower curtain, which popped. I love color but also fall tones.

Looks really great, Stephany! I love the modern cabinets in the kitchen and how open everything is. Open floor plans are my jam. Congrats on the new place. My first (and only) apartment was in student living. It was the absolute worst, haha. 🙂

So nice! Your apartment looks awesome. I loveee your kitchen and bathroom as well. Looks like you have lots and lots of space which is great. I’m not much of an interior decorater but I really LOVE nicely decorated homes so I try. It’s just not really my thing. If I had to describe it in just a few words it would be minimalist, neutral with bright pops of colour and cozy. Ok ok that was NOT three words 😉 haha

WOW WOW WOW, I love your kitchen and bathroom spaces. We have a lot of living space in our apartment, but the kitchen and bathroom are a bit tiny and old. Also, don’t worry – we’ve been in our apartment for six months with very little adult decor. It’s all just silly knick knacks we both had.

Love the tour! Your apartment is super nice! And that’s so nice you two each have your own bathrooms. I CAN’T WAIT TO HAVE MY OWN SOON.

Thanks for inviting us into your home!

We are all settled in but I’m not sure how Sugarface feels about a full tour. My decorating style is definitely DIY and also sentimental. So right now over our kitchen table we have a gallery of photos either I myself took or a couple of my friends. We have 5 paintings up and I did them all. We had our first dinner party last night and all the guests were impressed how quickly our home already feels like a home!

Your new apartment looks really cozy! I am sure you’ll feel at home in no time. I can’t wait to have my own washer and dryer in the next place that we will move to (hopefully some time soon!).
