One Photo a Day: March 14 – 20

March 14, 2026 – Doesn’t Lucy look so good in green? My mom and I took Chip and Lucy for baths, and they were wearing festive bandannas when we picked them up. So cute!

March 15, 2026 – What a day. I am very grateful that I can request sick-girl necessities on Ubereats and have someone drop them off right at my door. BLESS. I took a Covid test (negative) and enjoyed my favorite chicken noodle soup when most food sounded miserable to me. (I also swear by Afrin for nasal congestion; that stuff is magic!)

March 16, 2026 – Peekaboo, Lila! I took her to a new vet and learned homegirl has, once again, gained a full damn pound over the last year. She is a very chonky 17 lbs. Her bloodwork came back normal, aside from a slightly elevated glucose level. But the vet isn’t too concerned since everything else was normal, and the elevation could be due to stress. The goal now is to work on reducing her calories to see if that will lead to weight loss. If not, we’ll do some extra testing just to make sure it’s not diabetes and then talk about a weight-control prescription diet.

The good news is, she is healthy and the vet tech was obsessed with her. She told me Lila was the sweetest little bebe, which made my heart swell! She may be a monster to get into her cat carrier, but she’s an absolute doll at the vet.

March 17, 2026 – Eloise has murder-eyes in this picture, but only because I woke her up from her cozy nap spot. She spent two full days curled up in this corner of my bed, likely due to the exhaustion of playing nursemaid to me.

March 18, 2026 – I was feeling good enough to put together the new cat tower I bought for the girls! It’s the perfect size for this little corner next to my desk, and even has a hammock if either cat is inclined to try it out. Lila spent the whole night in the tower after I put it together!

March 19, 2026 – Eloise has a new collar, finally! Originally, I bought her a cute, custom collar from Etsy, but then realized it wasn’t a quick-release collar, womp womp. I found this sunflower collar at PetSmart and had to buy it. She looks so darling! Also, because she’s so smol, I bought her the kitten size, and it fits her perfectly. Tiny bebe!

March 20, 2026 – I went to my favorite used bookstore today and came away with a great selection of books! Just $14 for this stack, and it was super fun adding my new best friends to my bookshelves at home.

I LOVE the collar with the flower on it! How adorable! The kitty tower looks amazing, and I’m sure the girls love it. I’ve never tried Afrin. It’s going on my shopping list.

Afrin is an MVP when it comes to nasal congestion. I can’t live without it!

Thank you! There’s nothing like a used bookstore.

Oh, I love that Lila loved her cat tree so much she spent the night there. So sweet.

I read Little Bee back in 2013, it was completely engrossing. I don’t think I’ve read any of the other books that you got. That’s a great haul, I love used bookstores.

I’ve had Little Bee on my TBR for so many years! And the synopsis really intrigued me.

I got Annabel a friendship bracelet collar on Etsy that I am obsessed with– love the flower and Eloise looks very proud.! That’s my fave brand of COVID test because it looks so festive when you hold it by the stick. Also, I am so old that I have never encountered “smol” before and I LOVE IT.

HA – I have never heard a Covid test called festive before, but I love it! And a negative Covid test is even MORE festive!

You should, you should! It’s so fun to browse, mostly because I find all of these books I’ve been meaning to read for YEARS and have never gotten around to.

Maybe Lila is perfect just as she is! We had to take Muffin to the vet this week, just for a wellness checkup, and we discussed her weight. The vet said that it’s really hard to get them to lose weight, and we should just focus on not letting her gain any more. I like this plan! I just don’t have the energy to put one cat on a diet, when we have two others and they all eat together. Oh and FYI, I had a calico as a kid who was OBESE- I think she got up to 20 pounds. And she lived to be 18. So… I think they can be heavy and still live a good life.
Oooh, that book haul. I think I’m due for a trip to the used bookstore!

My problem is that Lila KEEPS GAINING WEIGHT. She’s at 1 lb a year at this point. I think I really need to get a lot stricert about treats. She BEGS for treats (does not beg for food, but will beg for treats) and I can’t resist her tiny little squeaky meow at me!

17 pounds! I am impressed with Lila! Do it, girl!
Lucy looks perfect in her little bandana. She could be on the cover of Dog Fancy!

Lila might be bigger than Oscar now! I think Oscar weighs around 15. Phil will say she’s just fluffy from her thick orange hair, though. But the girl has some rolls. But she’s happy and healthy. We can’t get her into the carrier to go to the vet so she hasn’t seen the vet for almost 2 years. I know Phil and his mom have talked about finding a mobile vet that will come to Joan’s but haven’t gotten around to doing that.

What an awesome haul for $14! It was a blast from the past to see Little Bee – I remember really liking that book!

I wish I could do a mobile vet for Lila, but I think she would just hide from the vet?! She never comes out of hiding when people are over.

I hope you are 100% healed from your cold now! I actually read this Saturday am when we both had (and still do have) colds and we’d never tried Afrin before (we swear by Mucinex Maximum Strength—the stuff that is behind the counter) and we got some and Steven said it’s really been helpful! Thanks for the tip!

It’s so hard at the vet when they shame you about their weight. Although it sounds like they were gentle with it. Are you going to cut her food back bit by bit? I bet that will help ♥️

I love Eloise’s new collar, and their cool new tower!

Oh yay! I’m glad the Afrin has been helpful. It’s a godsend when I’m congested!

I’m going to attempt to reduce some calories. I think mainly I need to cut down on treats. She begs for treats and it is so hard to resist her squeaky meow! But I’m going to find some healthy treat options and may just have to trick her with kibble from time to time. (Shh!)
