The high of my week was spending an evening with a friend, watching episodes of Drag Race. We’re watching the season that was released earlier this year, and it’s such a delight! What’s even more fun is watching with someone who loves this show so much and talking about our faves together.
The low of my week was learning that Chip has been banned from Rover. Oh, boy. We thought we found a great dog sitter for Chip, but a little over a week ago, Rover contacted my mom to ask for more details about an “incident” that happened while Chip and Lucy were at the dog sitter’s house. We didn’t know much about this incident, only that Chip had nipped him, but the dog sitter seemed fine to watch the dogs even after all that, so we figured it was all okay. Imagine our surprise when they banned him completely from Rover because of this incident.
That was a major blow for us, but we believe we have found an alternative. My friend recommended the dog boarding place she’s taken her dogs to, so Chip and Lucy had an evaluation this week, which they passed, and they’ll spend today there to make sure it’s a good fit. Chip isn’t reactive around other dogs, but he can get nippy with people if they try to pick him up or handle him a certain way. So, we’ll see! (Fingers crossed it all works out because omg, I never thought it would be this hard to find a dog sitter!)
I’m currently reading three books, as always! I just started Sky Daddy by Kate Folk. It is very weird, but I am trying to push through my uncomfortableness because so many of you have loved it! My romance is If Not You by Ellen O’Clover, which has been delightful so far. And on audio, I’m listening to Adult Assembly Required by Abbi Waxman, which has been a light, easy read.
A Reel that made me smile was the Cat Olympics! One of my favorite cat IG accounts does this event every year, and there’s nothing I love more than opening Instagram to see another video from him! My favorites have been the Great Cup Long Jump and Air Jail Hold.
A show I watched this week is the premiere of Survivor 51! It was a great premiere, and I’m excited for another crazy season.
The best money I spent this week was $40 on the softest, warmest jacket for my New England vacation! OMG. I love it so much. It’s so cozy! I want to wear it all the time, although it’s a little unnecessary for Florida. But hey, we got some seriously cold days last winter, so it might come in handy more than I think!
My plans this weekend include a lot of fun things! Today, I’m meeting up with Bri and Mikaela to record a podcast episode, and after that, I’m meeting up with family because it’s my nephew’s EIGHTEENTH birthday today. (No, I am not okay.) Tomorrow, I have a hair appointment and then a brunch date with my mom, Bri, and Bri’s husband. And Sunday, I have a pedicure date with my mom and football with the fam. Yay!

I will say that I have always boarded my dogs when I’ve travelled and it’s always worked out quite well. The one that Barkley went to was called the Pet Resort, and the one Rex goes to is the Country Club and honestly, the prices match the names. But it’s worth it to have the furballs happy! In fact, Rex absolutely loves “seeing his friends” and when Rob dropped off a crate to donate during the recent fires, he mentioned he’s Rex’s dad. “Rex MacPherson?” the girl asked. “OMG we love him! Wow, is he ever snuggly.” Lol. I think that’s code for highly clingy and needy! Also I would like to point out that Rex has MY last name while the boys do not!
ZOMG I love Sky Daddy. It IS weird, it’s probably the weirdest book I have ever read, but it is so damn funny and clever. It’s also a really nice statement on friendship.
Speaking of which, it’s my friend’s big 60th birthday party tomorrow and I am in charge of cupcakes. So today will be devoted to cupcake making (and testing, obviously, quality control over here)
Some days, I dream about working at a doggy daycare where I could snuggly doggos all day. I’m sure it’s a LOT less glamorous than it sounds, though! Chip and Lucy did GREAT at the boarding place for their daycare day, and Lucy was even more social than I expected! I think this is going to work out well.

I’m not sure what to say about Rover…if the dog sitter didn’t have a problem with the incident then I’m not sure what their problem was but whatever. I will say that I would be very nervous to board Doggo with a “civilian”. She’s a lovely dog but can be pushy and there are a whole host of situations that make her uncomfortable, and when a German Shepherd is uncomfortable they will make everyone in the room uncomfortable. She’s never bitten anyone but she can look/act scary when she wants to. The professional boarding place that we use isn’t going to have any “trigger” situations so I don’t worry when she’s there. Of course it was a process/luck to find that place…but anyway, YOU ARE GOING ON YOUR NEW ENGLAND VACAY!!!! SQUEEEEEE!!!!!!
Yes, I think a boarding place will work out much better, honestly. Same with Chip, too, in that there aren’t those same trigger situations. (For him, it’s people food.) It was a weird process with Rover, but oh well. Onwards and upwards!
Sky Daddy was something else, I’ll tell you that. I’ll be on a plane in a few days and I don’t think I’ll ever look at one the same.
Finding a dogsitter for Hannah is about 75% of the reason we don’t travel much as a couple. Even for my mother’s funeral, I went by myself two days earlier than my husband because of dog reasons. It is SO HARD. We have a good solution now, but the location is challenging. Anyway, you’re not alone in dogsitter blues.
I was at a conference in Philly this week and the high was definitely just walking around the city and eating whatever food I wanted. What a lovely place!
It really is a process to finding the right dog-sitting situation, isn’t it? Dutch was easier in that he was pretty low-key and didn’t need a specific type of place/sitter, so I’ve never been through this!

Oh Chip! That seems kind of strange for the sitter to say they were fine to watch Chip then report an incident. But maybe they’re required to report? How stressful. I think one of the main reasons I don’t have a pet (other than fish) is that figuring out what to do with them when I travel seems like a lot to handle.
I’ve never seen Drag Race, but it’s on the New York Times list of 100 best tv shows of the 21st century…. Along with all sorts of other really sad and lonely prestige TV. I’m glad there’s something on the list that isn’t all anti-hero existential brooding.

It was a strange process with Rover. I wish, at the very least, the dog-sitter had told us he had to report the bite so he didn’t get our hopes up. But maybe he was thinking it wouldn’t be a big deal since he was willing to watch them anyway? IDK, but at least we have a solution!
I just started watching Drag Race and it is exceptional. So much queer joy and beauty!
I hope the dog boarding situation is good to go now! Luckily, we’ve never had to do that because I think it would be hard. Michelle, I think I am in your camp with Sky Daddy. It was mostly just uncomfortable and I needed more character growth. It was… fine. But I’m never going to look at a plane the same way again!

I really like Sky Daddy, so I’m hoping you push through the weirdness. There’s definitely more to it than the airplane thing. But if you keep reading and still don’t like it- hey, every book is not for every reader.
I LOVE that jacket! It’s perfect for New England in the fall, but also, there are always like three days every winter when the temperature drops and I have to be outside, and I’m wearing a flimsy hoodie but wishing I had a real jacket. Can I justify getting it for three days a year??? I mean, it’s not THAT expensive!
Chip needs a firm talking-to, that’s for sure! He really is the sweetest boy, but he just has some trigger situations. I’m hoping this boarding place is a good fit for them both!
I feel the same way about winter clothes. It’s hard to justify too many of them, but then it’s so annoying to not have the right clothes when it IS cold!
I’m guessing it’s a legal thing…the petsitter had to report or risk their job, then Rover had to ban chip or risk a lawsuit. BOO! I’m so sorry, what a pain! Send him to me, I’ll just ignore him and make sure he has food and water (assuming that is what he would need…)
Skydaddy was a wild ride. I listened to it, and HOO BOY those sex scenes were rough to get through. I did really enjoy it though, so clever and interesting concept and well written.
I’m excited that there’s a sequel to A Different World on Netflix, PLUS a new season of Bake Off! YAY!

You’re probably right about Rover. It’s not the getting banned that I’m annoyed with because I *do* get it. I just wish the dog-sitter gave us a heads-up that he had to report it.

As you know I try to read less romance but Sky Daddy seems so different and weird I put it on my TBR. Not sure I’ll pick it up and how I feel about it when reading through.
