MORNING | My alarm wakes me up at 7 a.m. and I have cats snuggled in on either side of me! I spend a lot of time snuggling with them as I slowly wake up. I finally get out of bed, pee, brush my teeth, feed the girls, and then sit on the couch for about 20 minutes reading my book and playing games on my phone. It’s such a calm way to start the day! At 8, I take a shower and then put on comfy clothes and brush out my hair. (No meetings today, which means I don’t have to worry about looking presentable! I do not do my hair every day; only on days I have a lot of meetings and/or have evening plans.) I do my morning skincare routine, take my meds, make my bed, and put away the dishes from last night. I make coffee and breakfast and then sit down to work right around 9. I go through my emails and send a Slack message to my boss, which prompts a 10-minute huddle between the two of us. Then, I put together a handful of content strategy plans and by the time I’m done with that, I just want a break, so I wash my breakfast dishes, check in on the girls, and play a few games on my phone.
AFTERNOON | I make lunch, which is leftovers from last night, so it’s a super easy meal to put together. I do today’s Duolingo lessons while everything is cooking up. I eat lunch and scroll through Reddit forums, like always. And then it’s back to work. I answer emails and then work through some QA tasks, which are very easy and allow me to listen to a podcast while I’m doing it. I love that! And then the afternoon slump hits me hard. But I don’t work in an office! I work from home and have a flexible job, so I take a siesta and Eloise curls up next to me, which is lovely. When I wake up, she wants to do somersaults all over the bed next to me, so we laze around a bit. And then it’s back to work: answering emails, more QA tasks, and another content strategy plan. I take some breaks to clean my bathroom and go for a walk right before it gets dark. When I get back from my walk, I finish up my workday by taking care of some client edits to a content plan and continuing my QA tasks. I wrap up for the day around 6:30.
NIGHT | I lose all motivation to do anything once I’m done with work, so I park myself on the couch for a good hour to read my book and play games on my phone. I should have started dinner, but instead, I opt to lump on the couch. Around 7:45, I finally get up and start dinner. It’s homemade nachos night! Yay! And it’s time for this week’s episode of Survivor. I eat dinner while watching Survivor and then sit on the couch to color for the rest of the show. Once Survivor is over, it’s time for this week’s episode of The Amazing Race so I continue to sit and color, although I do get up during the commercial breaks to clean the kitchen, scoop the litter boxes, and tidy the apartment. After the shows are done, I call my mom so we can debrief about the shows. It’s 11:30 when I hang up with her and I am too tired to do my skincare routine, so I skip it in favor of going right to bed.

Did you watch any TV shows yesterday?
Jenny
I’m VERY envious of your pleasant start to the day! My alarm goes off at 5:30, and even though it’s a vibrating alarm on my watch which is ON MY WRIST, the cats can still hear it outside the bedroom door. They start meowing frantically and angrily because they are obviously starving to death. I have to get right up to feed them, then I get my daughter up and the true chaos ensues. Btw, I would probably let the cats sleep in the bedroom but my husband says no- sometimes I let them in when he’s out of town, heh heh. They are a little disruptive though.
Once again, your job sounds amazing. I love that you can take breaks and have time for a nap. Every single job should be like this!!!
For TV shows- last night I watched the first episode of the new season of Holiday Baking Championship. They made cinnamon rolls and it was so fun.
Stephany
I am so glad my cats aren’t demanding! They will sometimes sit on the bed and stare at me, but that’s about as disruptive as they’ll get. I got these magical unicorn cats, I swear!
sarah
I kind of want to eat that candle, not going to lie.
Stephany
Every time I burn it, I get really sad that I’m not baking something because it makes my apartment smell SO YUMMY!

There is nothing better than an “off camera” day where I can just let my hair air dry. I really don’t know how we made it back in the back old days of in office work. If I need a minute to clear my head I can just hop into a comfy chair and do a crossword puzzle instead of sitting at my desk and looking “busy”.
Nachos for dinner are the best!
BTW I love this series and might steal it…I’ve tried to write day in the life posts before but always got to a point where it was like “I’ve written a thousand words about making coffee” or “eek this is so boring that I can’t stand to write it”. I’m motivated to try again.
Stephany
Do it, do it! I love days in the life/weeks in the life/whatever you feel like doing! I feel like my updates are very boring, but people seem to like them. And, selfishly, I probably would do them even if they got no engagement because I find it fun for ME! Hah.
NGS
LOL. I legit have no idea how people have time to watch tv or movies. It is constantly dumbfounding to me. I currently am watching two shows – the newest seasons of Taskmaster and the Great British Bake Off. I block off time on Saturday mornings to watch those shows, but this weekend we have something scheduled for all day Saturday and I don’t know when else I can watch them and I’m over here freaking out! That is all.
San
Engie, I feel the same. I watch very little TV and am always amazed at how many shows others are following 🙂
Stephany
HA! Well, just think: This is how people who watch TV feel about how people can read more than a book a month! You just spend your time in different ways! I spent my Wednesday night parked in front of my TV.
Suzanne
I haven’t watched TV (besides football) in ages! Wah! Love that your job flexibility allows for an impromptu nap. It sounds like it’s such a great and balanced work life!
San
Your work day sounds amazing. It’s wonderful to have so much flexibility, isn’t it?
I have a question though: when you “scroll through Reddit forums, like always”, what exactly do you scroll? I’ve been on Reddit, I don’t find the design of the side very appealing and I don’t spend a lot of time on there, unless I am looking for a specific topic/answer… but I know others who spent a lot of time on the platform. Enlighten me, what am I missing out on?
Stephany
I would suggest finding a few forums to follow rather than just scrolling aimlessly. I like to follow the Reddit forums of my favorite reality shows. I also scroll through r/blogsnark a lot, which has some fun weekly threads that I like to keep up on, as well as r/fauxmoi for celebrity news. I’m sure there are some interesting running or Peloton-related Reddit forums to follow!

I remember watching the very first season of Survivor and I haven’t watched another episode since! It’s amazing to me that it is still on, that and the Bachelor which I ALSO watched the first season only of. These long running shows are mind boggling! I REMEMBER THE FIRST EPISODE EVER OF THE SIMPSONS. I was in grade nine! And here it is, STILL ON. I just heard that Grey’s Anatomy also is still on tv, but I haven’t watched that since McSteamy died; I was so mad I turned it off and never watched again. Is American Idol still on? I haven’t watched that since that Taylor guy won and again, I turned it off in a rage and never watched again. Wow, what is with my TV watching rage? It’s like I have to flounce away in a huff.

The boys have gotten into a habit of watching one show before bedtime. We have limited ways to entertain them now that it gets dark extra early and is getting colder. They watch a really cute show on Prime called “Tumble Leaf.” It’s so whimsical and sweet! Paul is a big fan of the Survivor challenges, so he gets to watch the challenge on Wednesday night and then we head up to bed. He was very bored by this week’s “pole hugging” challenge, though!

I love that coloring book. What a fun way to spend the night. Maybe I should get mine out while watching a movie tonight. We’ll see.
I am wondering how home made nachos look like to be honest. It is not a meal I would know how to do. I guess I could google….
Stephany
My homemade nachos recipe: I brown some ground beef in a pan and then mix in taco sauce. Then I put tortilla chips on a baking pan, bake them to get them warm, and then sprinkle WAY TOO MUCH cheese on the tortillas, put it back in the oven until the cheese is melty, and then I spoon out ground beef onto each tortilla. I add black beans + more cheese. And then I bake it until the cheese is melty. At the end, I add sour cream (I keep my sour cream in a squeeze bottle so I can squeeze it out perfectly onto the nachos).

Thank you Stephany. I think I could do that. Just gotta find tacos.

I am fascinated by the mini breaks you build into your workdays! I kind of love them but also think they would distract me from the task at hand (i.e. working). Do you find it’s easier to go back to work after the break? (Maybe it resets your brain, for lack of a better phrase?)
Also? This time of year, a no-meeting day is like a unicorn. Rumored, but never seen…
Stephany
Oh yes, I *must* have brain breaks throughout the day or I wouldn’t survive. I just work better working in sprints of 1-2 hours. I find it pretty easy to get back on track – maybe because I go through my emails when I get back to my desk and it sort of resets my brain?
