Carnival Inspiration | Western Caribbean Cruise | Mayan Ruins

When I chose our excursion in Cozumel, I wasn’t really thinking. I was excited about the prospect of touring the Mayan Ruins. What history! What amazing photographs I would capture!

I forgot about my mom.

My mom doesn’t share the same excitement and passion for history as I do. She appreciates it, but it isn’t something she seeks out. While I am the quintessential auditory/visual learner, she is tactile/kinesthetic to a tee. She can barely sit still in a church service or spend a day at home doing nothing but watching TV and reading. She likes to keep her body moving and do something involving touch and feel. So touring an old historic site in which she had no interest? Not the best idea.

I enjoyed it and loved listening to the passion in the tour guides’ voices as they explained different monuments and what they meant to the Mayan people. Before the tour, I had known a bit about the Mayans and I’m not sure if I learned anything new, but it was pretty inspiring to be at the archeological site and hear about the ways they lived and the customs they kept.

We spent about 45 minutes to an hour at this place, 30 minutes being the tour, and another 15 minutes allowed for us to look around (there was some shopping at the site) and take pictures. I also held an iguana on my arm and a bird on my head, but it cost $5 just to take pictures of it from my own camera (!) so you’ll just have to take my word for it.

Great pictures!! That's too bad that your mom wasn't as crazy about it, but it was a good experience nonetheless I bet.

You know when you travel with someone, sometimes you do what you want and sometimes you do what the others want! I'm sure your mom was kinda happy you were happy. 😉

Awesome photos!! I love going to historical stuff like this. We saw A LOT, A LOT of ruins when we were in Europe – especially Italy and Greece – and I was fascinated by them!

I'm totally the same as your mom, haha. I love seeing historical things, but hearing all the history just bores me. Of course, that means I love seeing the pictures you took – so awesome!

Oh intersting!  I have never seen Mayan ruins, but I woul dlove to see them some day.  I saw Roman Ruins when I was in Lyon France.  I thought it was amazing to think how long ago the structures were created!

You got that shirt from Target, right? I wanted one so bad, but my store didn't have my size. 🙁 I love the Calypso by St. Barth brand. It's so island-y! I love going to historical places, too. I like seeing how different types of people lived.

That sounds like fun! I would think your mom would enjoy all of the moving around… was the talking too boring? I guess I do remember being really bored at Pompeii…

I found your blog through my friend, Amber, at A Little Pink in the Cornfields.  I really enjoyed your review of your cruise.  I have been on one cruise only and I think it was through Carnival as well.  Just a short one to the Bahamas and I definitely had a fun time.  I have been reading some of your older posts as well and I will be back!

She was. So I guess it was OK because she was glad I enjoyed it. It's just nicer when both of you enjoy the excursion!

Yeah, the history surrounding the buildings, why they were created, and what they meant to the people was just so amazing to listen to! I thoroughly enjoyed the tour!

Yep! The shirt is pretty nice, but it shrunk after just one wash and now is almost a belly shirt. Ugh. I love that shirt, too!
