6:50 a.m.: My gentle Sleep Cycle alarm begins waking me up. Lila is snuggling with me on the bed, so I pet her and she decides she wants to bite my fingers. It hurts when she does this!
7:00 a.m.: I get up, pee, brush my hair into a pony, and then put on clothes (yoga pants and a t-shirt). Then, I drive to Starbucks so I can get my first peppermint mocha of the season! Yum, yum.
7:40 a.m.: Back home. I finish up yesterday’s post while sipping my mocha and eating a breakfast sandwich. Then, I start working on this post.
8:00 a.m.: It’s time to get the workday started. I answer a few emails and Slack messages that came through overnight, and make my task list for the day. My morning is pretty uneventful! I complete a bunch of tasks, have a quick huddle with my director to talk through an idea that was brought up in one of her meetings, and answer emails as they come in.
11:15 a.m.: I was planning on running some errands today, but it’s raining outside and I’m feeling lazy so I decide to order Ubereats for lunch. While I wait for it to arrive, I knock out another task on my to-do list.
12:00 p.m.: I lay on the couch, reading my book (The Smart One) while I wait for lunch to arrive. When it does, I chow down while reading the Survivor Reddit thread.
12:30 p.m.: I’m back to work. While we don’t “officially” have half-day Fridays anymore, it’s generally accepted that you can log off early on Fridays if you want. I try to stay logged in until 1 or 2, just to catch any straggling messages that may pop in before the weekend. I finish up a task, clear out my inbox, and then tidy up my desk before shutting down.
1:30 p.m.: Mikaela sends me a text, asking to give her all the details about Running of the Wieners. She’s thinking of coming to cheer on Chip and Lucy! We have the same sort of anxiety brain when it comes to logistics, so I send her a 10-minute video on Marco Polo giving her allllll the details.
1:45 p.m.: I get comfy (i.e., remove my pants and bra) and crawl into bed. This is my favorite time of the week: When I can crawl into a cool bed in the middle of the day and know I can take a long nap. I read for a bit (I’ve switched over to The Bodyguard) and then set an alarm. If I don’t set an alarm, I will take a 4-5 hour nap, no lie. Then it’s off to dreamland for me!
5:30 p.m.: My alarm wakes me up. (Told you!) I’m a little groggy so I let myself slowly wake up. Mom texts me to say she did her walk today, and I know I need to try to get mine in before the sun goes down.
5:40 p.m.: I finally get out of bed. The girls are snuggled together on the couch AGAIN. (I wish I could get a photo of this, but the minute I move toward them, they get up. Argh!) I get dressed and go out for a walk. The sky is showing off tonight!
6:15 p.m.: Back home and I Facetime with Mom for a bit.
6:40 p.m.: After chatting with Mom, I’m feeling lazy so I sit on the couch, read my book, and play games on my phone.
7:00 p.m.: I force myself to get up and make dinner. It’s breakfast-for-dinner tonight! Yay! I make scrambled eggs, sausage, and waffles. I turn on an episode of Love is Blind to watch while I eat.
8:30 p.m.: I sit on the couch for a while, reading and playing games on my phone, and eventually get up to take a bubble bath. Only the bath isn’t as hot as I like it and I didn’t put enough bubbles in, so it’s a little disappointing. After my bath, I sit on the couch to read more of my book (I’m back to The Smart One).
9:30 p.m.: I putter around the house for a bit, tidying up and poking through one of my Christmas bins to see what I want to put up. I take down some of my “everyday” decorations and place them in the bin to make room for Christmas decorations.
10:00 p.m.: I sit down at my computer so I can start working on this post and read some blogs. I am incredibly behind on Nablopomo reading! I get up a few times to tidy up the kitchen and brush my teeth, but that’s about all I feel like doing of my nighttime routine. I should wash my face, but I’m feeling very lazy tonight.
11:30 p.m.: I crawl into bed with my book with the intent of finishing The Bodyguard, which I do. It was an enjoyable read, maybe 3.5 stars? More to come in my next reading recap, of course. After finishing it and rating it on Goodreads, I read a chapter of The Smart One and then listen to some ASMR videos on Youtube to fall asleep.
12:30 a.m.: Lights out!
Do you like taking naps?
Jenny
Oh yes- I am a NAPPER! I’ve enjoyed this Week in the Life series so much (are you sure you don’t want to do it again next week?) Crawling into bed on a Friday afternoon for a long nap sounds like absolute heaven. I’m kind of starting to wish we could change places for a week or so- I could totally live your life, but you’d be like “What in the world is going on? Why is my house such a mess? Why are the cats hissing at each other? Who is this sullen 13-year-old I’m supposed to take care of?” Ah well- I guess I’m stuck here. Luckily it’s Saturday afternoon and that’s MY day for a long nap!
I remember the Running of the Weiner from last year- I’m sure it’s utter chaos, but I’m hoping to see pictures this time! And… glad you got that Starbucks holiday drink!
Elisabeth
I agree with Jenny – a whole week of this series was amazing. It really felt so relaxing and warm and cozy to read about your days. <3
Stephany
Thanks, Elisabeth! <3 I'm glad you enjoyed me talking about my little life!
Stephany
A Month in the Life – now, that’s a series idea for NaBloPoMo 2023! Hahaha. I’m glad you enjoyed this series. It’s so fun for me to do, and I’m glad it’s fun for others to read!
Elisabeth
I love a good nap, but I have to admit I nap pretty infrequently lately. One of my goals for 2022 was to take regular Sunday-afternoon naps. I have failed on this so badly. I’ve done this 4-5 times, maybe?
Overall, I’d say I average 1-2 naps/month. But because I struggle with low energy, I should do this more.
I have a tough time, though, because if I nap it really impacts my ability to sleep at night. A 15-minute nap in the early afternoon is generally okay, but sometimes it makes me feel so much worse for a few hours. Sigh.
My favourite naps were MORNING naps – I took these religiously when I was pregnant. I’d get up, putter around, and then nap. Sometimes I would nap at my lunch break, too, when I was pregnant and would literally go into a side room, shut out all the lights and sleep on the linoleum floor of the lab I was working in. Not ideal – but I literally couldn’t keep my eyes open!
When I got COVID/had my hysterectomy postponed, I napped/slept off-and-on for almost 24 hours! That is UNHEARD of for me, but it felt amazing and I credit it with helping me bounce back emotionally from such a letdown.
Stephany
Oh my gosh, Elisabeth, I am such a huge proponent of a morning nap. That’s when I sleep my hardest and wake up feeling the best. I will sometimes do a morning nap on a weekend if I don’t have much going on in the morning/afternoon. It’s such a luxury!
J
I used to be a great napper, and was known to push a couple of chairs together and lay on them to nap in the back room on my lunch break at one job. I’m not as good at napping now, not sure why. Nice that you got a nap in though!
Stephany
Ohhh, the lunch break nap! When I worked in an office, I would take a nap in my car and even put a big pillow in my backseat so I could get REAL cozy. Haha!
San
I used to be not much of a napper, but I’ve gotten better at taking them when I feel really tired.
I am using the Sleep Cycle app too and love the gentle alarm… it works so well for me.
Stephany
The Sleep Cycle alarm is just so gentle and makes it so much easier to wake up!
NGS
I LOVE a nap. Today I “read” on the couch for about an hour and a half, which is code for “it’s a cold, gross Saturday afternoon in November and the cat and I are going to nap while I pretend I’m going to read.” And I will go to bed at a normal time tonight and sleep just fine. I rarely nap in bed, though, mostly just on the couch.
Stephany
The “read on the couch and fall asleep” habit is something I am all too familiar with! I love it. Napping also doesn’t affect my sleep at night! Very grateful for that since I love to nap. 🙂

Before covid I was trying to introduce that habit. But ever since the husband works from home too I feel bad taking a nap when he is working. Now I only do so when the migraine its.
Stephany
Aww – you shouldn’t feel guilty about needing to take a nap! But I understand feeling that way.
Suzanne
I am not a napper. It’s hard for me to fall asleep during the day and when I wake up I inevitably have a headache and feel cranky.
I am super behind on post reading too! I wish I had more time in the day to devote to blogs!
Stephany
Oof, that’s no fun at all! That would make it hard for me to want to nap, too, if that’s the way I woke up. What is it, though, with waking up with headaches? That happens to me, too. I think it might be because I grind my teeth (reallllly need to get a night guard) but I also wonder if there are other factors at play.

What a beautiful sunset! And hooray for peppermint season! My favourite flavour.
Because I have no idea how else to do it, I am going to drop my comment about your pod here. First of all, I LOVE THIS SEASON! It’s been really great. I loved the birthday episode. I love everyone’s birthday but especially my own. I think of April as my Birthday Month, and so it just feels special. I mean, birthdays ARE special! Why not have a day to celebrate and fete our friends and ourselves?
Stephany
Yay! I’m really glad you’re loving this season. It was a fun one to record since we just got to have these deep chats about our lives, and that’s something I love to do with Bri anyway. 🙂 And YES, birthdays are so special! I love that I still consider my birthday to be such a special day.

I never used to nap before I had kids. I would try and I could never fall asleep. Now naps are completely essential, especially now that we have 2 kids. I do not think I napped when Paul was a toddler and I wonder what I was doing while he was sleeping? And I wonder why I am so gd tired these days. But maybe it’s age, maybe it’s having 2 kids, maybe it’s my RA, maybe it’s my schedule. Who knows. But I love to get an hour nap in one weekend afternoon. I always start off by reading and then when I feel like I can’t keep my eyes open I will put my book down and try to nap.
Stephany
I’m glad you have found a love for napping! I loooove being able to lay down with my book and know I can take a nap if I get sleepy (which always happens). It’s such a little luxury!
Anne
You know I love these posts – thank you for persevering through the week!
I envy the uncluttered-ness of your desk. Goals. 🙂
And I am NOT a napper. The only time I doze/sleep during the day is when my symptoms flare or I am sick. It doesn’t affect my sleep that night, but I just find that it doesn’t really help me be sharper and more focused, so I tend to avoid taking them. (PS – I totally binged on season 2 of the podcast – loved it! thought… would you be willing to do an episode on making friends as an adult? I know you touched on it in the book club episode, but it would be really nice to hear more from you and Bri about that. Just a thought!)
Stephany
Haha – I cannot work around clutter so I try to keep my work desk as neat as possible.
And thank you for listening to season 2! And great timing for your request as our next season is going to focus on relationships, and we have a friendship episode planned. I’ll make sure we talk about how we make friends – I’m sure Bri has some great tips because she is 1000x better at it than me!
