MORNING | No alarm this morning, so today my bladder wakes me up at 8:30. I attempt to go back to bed after attending to it, but no dice. I get up, feed the girls, and then sit on the couch to read for a bit. Then, I take a shower, get dressed, start a load of laundry, and make myself coffee and a bowl of cereal for breakfast. It’s a little after 10 by the time I’m finishing up breakfast, so I wash out my bowl, brush my teeth, brush out my hair, and take care of a few tasks around the apartment. By 11:00, I’m out the door for the day. First, I stop at Publix to pick up a prescription and then I pick up my mom. We head to TJ Maxx to check out their Christmas decorations. I only buy TWO holiday signs, which is honestly impressive for me. (Will hold for applause.) Then, we’re off to Publix for grocery shopping! We always go to Publix on Sunday before football to get the supplies we need for the day. (I always get a Pub sub for lunch, and we make a dessert.) Lately, I’ve been doing my weekly grocery shopping during this trip. It’s crowded and busy at this time, so it can often make me shake my fist at humanity, but I get it done somehow.
AFTERNOON | My mom and I arrive home right around 12:40 and put away our groceries (I store my groceries in her fridge/freezer until I go home). Then, I sit on the couch for dog snuggles. Right around 1:00, my brother and older nephew arrive and I make such a rookie mistake when letting them in (keeping the door open too long) and Lucy and Chip take off running. They’ve been getting better about not escaping from the house, but today was not that day. Thankfully, they just ran around the yard for a bit and my mom was able to get them inside with the promise of treats. Hey, ya gotta do what ya gotta do! The rest of the afternoon is wonderfully low-key! I eat my sub and then settle into an armchair to watch the games. I read a bit of my book, scroll through Etsy and Amazon for Christmas gift ideas, chat with my family, eat some very good cookies, and enjoy copious dog snuggles. My team is not playing this week, so my stress level is at zero, which is a nice change! Instead, I cheer on my brother’s team (the 49ers) and watch some kinda blah games.
NIGHT | I hang out at my mom’s until 7:45 p.m., and then I take all of my groceries and head home. The girls are happy to see me (and to get dinner!). I unpack my groceries and then sit on the couch with my book and the Sunday Night Football game in the background. I munch on a bag of popcorn and I’m surprised that the game keeps my attention. Throughout the evening, I work on this post, fold laundry, read some blogs, do my skincare routine, brush my teeth, and tidy up the apartment. It’s only when I think I’m done with everything and can finally go to bed that I realize I forgot to scoop the litter boxes. Dang it! Even though I want to delay that task until the morning, I know I need to get it done tonight so I do so. Now it’s after midnight when I’m finally getting into bed and I’m going to be a sleepy girl tomorrow!

Be honest: How much do my late bedtimes make you cringe? What I have learned the most from documenting a week in my life is that I have to get into a better nighttime routine. Argh!

Well, I am such an early morning person that I cannot even think to stay up until midnight! But I’ve never been good at staying up late, even when I was a young person.

Honestly – sleep is a ghost in the wind to me – so I appreciate more your late sleep in time.
I need to get to Homegoods & TJ Maxx to look for some holiday decorations for my desk.

I can’t remember if I told you this before, but when I was single I was horrible about sticking to a decent bed time. And the thing that I miss the most about when the boys were young is when their bedtime was before ours! When their bedtime was at 9 we’d get in bed ourselves after they were lights out and read for a while and often turn the lights off right before 10. Now that they stay up until whenever we’re up until at least 10:30 and sometimes later.
I love shopping at Publix. Probably because the only time that I get to go is when we’re on vacation in FL;-)

I think your late nights make sense because of your late mornings, to be honest. Since my alarm goes off hours before yours does, it makes sense that I go to bed hours before you! It all works out in the end, right?

Midnight bed times are not so far offing my house hold. I usually go to bed around 11 and read so it is close to midnight when lights go out. My husband though can easily go to bed at 3 am… So you are doing fine…
I find it impressive that you can read book while watching football. I can not do that. I sometimes which but no way.
Gold star for you taking. care of the litter box.

Definitely applauding you! But disappointed I don’t see a picture of the signs? Did I scroll by too fast?
I am also in shock that is when you grocery shop for the week! You are brave!
That book looks good!
Your late night bedtime does not make me cringe, it just makes me tired! I am ideally in bed by 8:30 and asleep by 9:00 so we have very different routines LOL!

I stay up occasionally, but I always pay for it the next morning because I usually get up early (I reserve on day a week right now to wake up without an alarm).
I love that you got to spend your Sunday with family and your “football ritual”. It sounds so fun and predictable (in the best possible way!). I’d love family Sundays like that!
Suzanne
You do go to bed late, but I think if that’s the pattern your body prefers, you can’t really fight it? And it seems like it works for you! Especially since you have the flexibility to take a nap during the day. I wouldn’t be too hard on yourself unless it’s having a negative impact on your life or your ability to do what you want to do.

Ah, I knew I would enjoy reading about your Sunday! I love the trip to TJ Maxx (but I agree I want to see a picture of your purchases) and the leisurely afternoon watching football. I was kind of bummed the Dolphins weren’t playing, and as luck would have it, my “other” team (the Bears) wasn’t playing either. I did have football on but wasn’t super into the games.
I get up at 5:30 am on weekdays, but I’ve been known to stay up till midnight on a weekend night! So I get it- I love staying up late (I just don’t like how I feel the next day.)

I love that you are able to spend so much time with your family, that is such a gift. And that you enjoy it and don’t take it for granted, makes it even better.

We are built so differently and are in such different stages of life so our bedtimes are VERY different. But I would be a zombie if I went to bed as late as you do! The latest I can sleep in on a weekend is usually 6:30 so I absolutely have to be disciplined about my bedtime. I have not seen midnight in a very very very very long time! The latest I will stay up is maybe 10 pm? I”m really living it up over here. 😉
Anne
I second what J said. You so clearly love spending time with your family, and make it a priority, and certainly do not take it for granted. One of the many things we love about you. 🙂
